The Green Expanse:
Zooming into a nearby galaxy, the ship’s FTL engines whirred and slowed to a stop. The Expedient Ascertainment, a Kalaedan research ship, began toward its destination. The ship’s target location was a deathworld, a planet with such inhospitable conditions, that it’s deemed useless or too dangerous by other races. Kalaedans are interested in these planets for their cheap materials, mainly to transmute them into starplatinum.
“Knyaz Adamska,” The navigator started, “We have two options here, there’s a massive asteroid belt on our course, we could try to maneuver through it, or we could go around it.”
Adamska put his hand on his chin, the tall figure’s skin shone brilliantly in the well-lit navigation quarter. “We’ll brave the asteroid field, going around would cost us weeks, and the refuel stations are too far back for us to waste time.”
The navigator glanced back at his terminal, “Alright Knyaz Adamska, on your orders.” He then began relaying instructions to his team.
Hours later, the peaceful atmosphere on the ship was destroyed by wailing klaxons. Loud thuds could be heard on certain parts of the ship. They were being boarded.
“Get those damn sirens off!” Adamska screamed at one of the engineers in the navigation deck. The leader placed his hand on his ion pistol, channelling his favor, “Attention all crew, we’re being boarded by an unknown entity, I expect each and every one of you to defend this ship to your last breath,” His commanding voice stirred the entire crew, each of them grabbing something to be used as a weapon.
The insectoids were tearing through the ship’s hull steadily with razor sharp claws. Emergency airlock doors were closed, but many of the creatures made it through. The one’s that couldn’t get through were jettisoned into deep space.
As the Kalaedan research teams were fighting valiantly, the navigation team was planning a daring escape. The ship’s FTL drives were destroyed, and the thrusters were being torn apart by the insectoids. The navigation team put the thrusters into high-gear, and decided to gun it. The ship accelerated to full speed, skimming across the sides of asteroids. The ship was being battered, and things were looking grim.
After hours of bloodshed, the ship’s thrusters died out, and they had cleared the field, but not without taking heavy damage and casualties. Roughly 1/6th of the crew had been wiped out, and only 100 of the soldiers stationed on board were still alive. The engines had failed, and they were stranded.
A distress signal was sent out in all directions, all they could hope for was help to arrive.
“This is Knyaz Adamska, I am the officer in command of the Expedient Ascertainment. I represent Bozhe’s Chosen as the highest ranking official present. We are in grave danger, we were attacked by an insectoid race in an asteroid field. We have sustained heavy losses, and our life support system is failing as we speak. We have cleared the field, but are stranded in deep space. If you are able to help, please respond to our broadcast.”
Altrean Dominion Terrirory:
A figure cloaked in shadows walks down the onyx corridor illuminated by Splen cylinders giving off a yellow orangish glow as he nearing the arc way into the orbital ring command center above Alterea. Within the large circular room there were comms officers were busy at work sending and receiving messages that keep the Dominion functioning and preparing the Dominion for war. The room was abuzz with noise even though not a sound was made, the telepathic conversations between the overseers and the lower comms officers detecting the movement of resources and materials for the Assault fleet . The shadowy figure takes his chair joining the massive conversion with all the other comms officers while overlooking the reports on the holo screen in front of him.
“Commander we are picking up a distress signal from within the green expands, the transmission doesn't seem to be from the 7th legion.” said the low ranking comms officer sending the transmission and the relative data.
Aro reads over the report and listens to the transmission, he opens a comm link to the Archon councils, sending them the information. If the signal was sent by an ally nation responds would have been immediate, but due command position does not allow him to send response fleet without the Archons approval.
Three of the eleven archons were able to respond to the message. Three crimsons holo figures appear before commander Aro.
“What is so important that you are to call us out of a closed meeting?” The right Archon asked in a threatening tone
“Forgive the intrusion Archon, but the array picked up a distress signal from an unknown force calling themselves the Bozhe’s chosen, I asked this audience with you to send out a scouting fleet to investigate, as well ask for a delegate to go along with them to start a first contact if we are able to save them.” Aro said bowing his head to the figures.
The crimson figure in the center standing taller than the others “We will allow a small fleet to investigate, assign Capital Justi’Um from the defence fleet and allow him two frigate class ships as escorts.” and with that the figures disappear.
Commander Aro send a report detailing his mission out to Justi’Um aboard his ship the Ingis’al, while sending a reply to the distress signal sent by the Bozhe’s chosen ship in text only.
< This is the Alterean Dominion, we have received your distress transmission, we are sending a scout fleet to give assistance, stand by, they will be there soon. >
“Captain we are receiving a message from orbital command, it seems we have been given two frigates to investigate a distress signal from within the green expanses.” The comms officer aboard the Ingis’al say while sending the information to his holo screen.
“Understood, Have the two ships form up on us and have the interceptors prep for attack, raise the shields and open a jump rift close to the location the signal was sent from.” Justi’Um orders and he reads over the report. His orders were carried out and the ships cloaked themselves in the blackness of the void and a rift open before the ship, as if the very fabric of space was being pulled apart, and within seconds the Dominion scout fleet appeared outside an asteroid field.
“Scan the field and open a channel to the Kalaedan ship.” Justi’Um order while reading the incoming data from the scans.
The engineers in the control room notified Adamska as the Dominion ships arrived, who breathed a sigh of relief at the fast response.
The Knyaz established a line of communication with the ships. “Thank you for responding to our distress signal, might I ask who’s representing our saviors?”
While Adamska was not a rude man, he was an especially wary Kalaedan, whose attention to detail has granted him much prosperity in the past. While he did believe that these rescue attempts were genuine, he wasn’t going to be taking any chances.
After relaying this message to the oncoming ships, he turned to the sergeant on board, who was responsible for the troops.
“Make sure all of our boots are combat ready, but keep the ship’s weapon systems offline, this race is alien to us, but we don’t want to leave a bad first impression.” With a salute, the sergeant walked brusquely away.
The Ingis’al scans the astro field locationing the Kalaedan ship, scans indicate that it has heavy damage and it’s engines are offline but the ship has a forward movement.
“Sir the Kalaedans have open a communication line with us, shall I allow it?” the comms officer asks.
“Yes. Lets find out who these people are and what they are doing in this area of space.” Justi’Um says as he listen to the message.
“This is Captain Justi’Um of the Alterean Dominion’s Aust’ral defense fleet, we received your distress signal and are prepared to offer assistants. Can you update us on the status of your vessel so be may best coordinate rescue.” Justi’Um responds to to the unknown voice.
“Our ship has sustained heavy damage, due to an unknown insectoid race residing in the asteroid belts of the Green Expanse.” He stated simply, “We were on our way to investigate a desolate world in this sector of the galaxy.”
“Our engines are failing and our FTL thrusters are destroyed, and our ion thrusters are offline, our life support systems are slowly failing.”
The Knyaz tapped his fingers against the desk, meeting new factions was always a worrisome encounter, he would rather leave politics to other Kalaedans.
Justi’Um nods thinking of how best to handle the situation “We are prepared to open a rift and allow you into our territory. You will be given safe passage and able to my repairs and contact your people to notify them of the situation.”
Adamska pondered the alien’s words for a moment before flipping comms back on. “Alright, I’ll traverse the rift into your territory, I am in your debt.”
The Kalaedan research ship floated on as a gigantic rift opened in front of him, emanating an eerie green light. As the ship flew through the portal, it arrived on the other side, being pulled toward a large station via tractor beams.
The Dominion fleet opens another rift to the same system having sent a message head of the Kalaedan ship tell the station to take them in and allow them access to the large hangar bay for repairs and medical help. The Bozhe ship enters the hanger under the support of the tractor beams, as support crews rush to move in and sucre the ship to grav fields. Security teams move to scanning the hull of the ship checking the damage and to make sure none of the “insectoid race” came with. The scout fleet docks within the hanger and captain Justi’Um and the archons appointed delegate with four royal guards float over to the ship with the drill teams cutting into the hull.
“Well lets see what these Bozhen people look like.” Justi’Um says as he and the others close the gap
“Agreed, Hopefully they are an honorable race.” the masked delegate clad in a crimson robe said in response
As the drills ripped through the hull of the ship, Adamska waited patiently. After a few moments, an exit was created for the Kalaedans. The knyaz ducked through the hole and strode forward.
He had a detachment of infantry follow him, about 5 men, but it was obvious that he was at the mercy of his hosts. The kalaedan bowed as he reached what looked to be an official of the unknown faction, the red trim vibrant against the greys of his uniform
“Allow me to reintroduce myself, in person this time, I am Knyaz Adamska, Captain of the Expedient Ascertainment.”
The cutting crew moved away and other crew stood on the side lines watching. The Royal guard watched the movements of these tall looking human closely.
“It’s a pleasure to be your host while you are within Dominion space. I’m Horren’Um, Archon pointed delegate for this meeting between our two peoples. I wish it was under better circumstances.” Horren’Um said with a light bow.
“With your permission under your people’s supervision we can conduct repairs, and contact your people.” Justi’Um said with a small bow.
“Ah yes, you have my permission to conduct any repairs, i can also open a line to our great Velikii Tsar, Vladimir the Giant Slayer, High Commandant and Leader of Bozhe’s Chosen.” Adamska felt relieved that the first contact politics would be left to a higher up, rather than he.
Adamska pulled out a small card, made of a hard metal, glowing ever so slightly in a dull shade of blue.
“Place your hand upon this, and I’ll channel my favor into it. It will allow us to contact the Velikii Tsar.”
Justi’Um nodded and motioned for the repairs to start as medical teams came into the hanger ready to take the injured into their care. Horren’Um eyed the device carefully before he reaching out to touch it.
Repair teams started to work on the damaged ship, medicines and Hexbots flew about. Med teams moved into the ship and started taking out people in body bags or on stretchers.
After establishing communications with the Velikii Tsar, Horren’Um requested that Vladimir send a representative to the Eques. After around a month of FTL travel and dodging asteroids, the Sanctum, a Kalaedan Frigate arrived at the station. The Kalaedan rep docked on the station, his expectant guests waiting for his arrival. After meeting with Horren’Um, the Kalaedan began speaking of relations.
“First and foremost, I’d like to thank you on behalf of Bozhe’s Chosen, the Expedient Ascertainment arrived safely in Kalaedan territory. I have prepared a non-aggression pact, as well as a trading doctrine for you to look over.” He handed a 10” plasma screen tablet to the Altrean, “And I’ve left my personal contact information on there for you, if you ever need anything from us, we are in your debt.”
Horren’Um took the tablet reading over the contents, before signing it. With the short talks over Horren’Um and Justi’Um had seen the Kalaedan off.
