The Great Eye: Capital system, Eos Consortium territory
Fleetmaster Axxee sat in the command chair on the bridge of his flagship, the Lunar, looking at the displays at his station console, checking over details. All armadas had signalled that they were ready, and the Matterforge was standing by until it received the signal.
He spoke aloud "Erina", and a disembodied responded from the bridge's speakers "Yes, sir?"
"Set a course for the Great Eye. All vessels are to come into the system with shields at 100 percent, and weapons hot, but remember to stick to the plan."
Alex relayed the instructions to the other vessel's commanding officers and AIs.
"Reality drive active" and the force jumped towards the system, crossing the immense distance in an instant. Ten AU distant from the star, 1440 warships suddenly appeared.
Gravus was instantly alerted moments before by the Sensors of the fleet’s network. His fleet had barely begun moving into defensive positions when the enemy fleet arrived. The gold and white vessels of the Consortium surrounding the Great Eye were outnumbered, Gravus saw the enemy’s fleets numbers. 1440 ships... He looked at his own fleet roster. 842 ships, along with the Great Eye itself. His ships began moving into the easiest defensive positions and communications were flooded with alarms. His own flagship, a Super Dreadnought by the name of 'Corvus' hung near to the Great Eye, the sight of the great stations arms folding in for defence could be observed as her venerable weapon systems charged up. "So it appears they have come for a fight..." Gravus sneered "My lord we are outnumbered and outgunned, the Grand Council is wanting your advice on the situation" Gravus laughed, standing up to address his fleet "We may be outnumbered but we are certainly not outgunned. We have his very presence with us this day. We will not go down without a fight" All across the fleet shields were raised, weapons armed and attack craft made ready. The Consortium wasn’t going to back down.
All of the Nuclean vessels immediately began broadcasting a message:
“This is Fleetmaster Axxee of the Nuclean Ecumene. Surrender now and avoid unnecessary loss of life.”
While they did this, they also were scanning the system to determine the exact layout and locations of things, and relaying them back home.
Gravus received the message and grunted "Well they are certainly arrogant I will give them that" He pressed the communications reply "This is Grand Exemplar Gravus of the Eos Consortium. You are trespassing on Holy Ground. Pull back or you will be completely destroyed. We will let you go if you so wish heathens, but I assure you. This move wasn’t the smartest idea. I spit on your offer of surrender" He closed the link. How dare they come here and seek to subjugate an entire race? Barbarians, all of them. He would see them exterminated for their actions.
“Very well then” Axxee responded, then shut off the comm. He then pressed a button on his console, sending a signal back to Nuclean space over the quantum communication system.
On the far side of the Great Eye, the great bulk of the Matterforge came into existence, and opened fire. Thirty-seven placeholder cannons each silently generated a rift that would terminate within the giant Eos station, every one unleashing the energy of the sun in one explosion almost instantaneously after the gun fired.
As this happened, the fleet of Nuclean warships also opened fire at the Consortium’s warships, creating a wall of thousands of conical ion pulses, which would shut down and disable electronics much like an EMP.
As the Nuclean battlestation jumped in next to the Great Eye its defences had finished coming online. Activating defensive Interdiction fields preventing FTL travel in a small area around the station it returned fire against the station, Kinetic waves and beams flying out from thousands of emplacements, all were eclipsed however when numerous explosions rocked the outside of the interdiction field, the rift gates not able to end within the station terminated at the edge of the field, dumping the antimatter slugs, so close to the star the solar winds caused the antimatter slugs to react, exploding with immense force and damaging the Great Eyes shields on the side of the station. As the Great Eye returned fire Gravus roared in defiance, how dare they attack their most sacred ground! FTL communications had been sent all over the Consortium, reinforcements would surely be coming. The Eos fleet watched the Nucleans fire some sort of weapons at an obscene distance, guaranteeing the Eos ships to dodge out the way. However that wasn’t his plan. Gravus fleet divided into two groups, the first covered the side being attacked by the giant station by jumping in close to it, a few ships accidentally jumping into the station, damaging the station ever so slightly and destroying themselves, the rest came in close braving the close defences as they let their powerful Kinetic weapons join those of the Great Eye in engaging the enemy. Gravus himself waited for the enemy fleet to enter combat range, judging by their FTL abilities he knew they would try to close the gap instantly on top of them.
The Matterforge shields started taking damage from the Eyes returning fire. It continued firing its placeholder turrets and it began to fire its other weapons. Millions of blobs of blue plasma and millions of blue energy bolts erupted off the station and flew towards the Great Eye. These were joined by hundreds of millions of missiles, each 100 megatons. As this happened, the fleet of Nuclean warships activated their reality drives and jumped to within 100 miles of the Eos fleet and opened fire at the Consortium’s warships, creating a wall of thousands of conical ion pulses, which would shut down and disable electronics much like an EMP.
As the Matterforge started to open fire with the rest of its weapons The fleet attacking it launched attack craft, thousands of fighter and bomber craft began strafing the station, with the fighters moving out to intercept launched missiles, As for the incoming warheads the Kinetic waves fired to intercept, wiping hundreds out per wave, however not all were intercepted, the missiles impacting to either blow on the shield or blowing holes into the stations gigantic form. As the battle raged the stations power output spiked, massively. Gravus expecting such a jump watched as the EM shields of his most basic ships stopped the seemingly disabling EMP burst deployed by the enemy fleet and immediately after they jumped the Eos fleet relocated by their own FTL. Appearing in the middle of the Nuclean fleet with again some ships either jumping into Nuclean vessels or just never returning from FTL. Gravus watched and smiled as the golden waves emanated out of the ships and into the Nuclean fleet, they were outnumbered yes, but at this range the weaponry would take its toll "And low and behold! The Great evil came to destroy the home of the reightous! And Eos did so stride forth against the seemingly endless hordes! And he smote them down with fire and flame!" Gravus preached through the coms as the long range weaponry on the Great Eye also began engaging the Nuclean fleets fire and ships on the side of the action, its energy reaching peak levels.
Axxee read the damage reports for his fleet gravely. Obviously the idea of capturing enemy vessels mostly intact was not going to work. But the Eos weapons were too strong this close. He keyed an order to the rest of the warships. They began to jump back out to several thousand miles from the fleet interspersed among them. He ordered the supercruisers to fire their placeholder guns at the largest vessels. Each explosion was a teraton each, with the idea of damaging multiple vessels at once. Meanwhile, the Matterforge's shipmaster ordered the physi beams activated. The four giant generators were aimed at the joints connecting one of the stations arms, attempting to rip it off
Gravus watched the enemy fleet withdraw to a further distance, his fleet catching some as they jumped out, the losses he had inflicted should make the enemy think twice before attacking again. Though he watched as some of his larger ships exploded in fire he expected such losses, he would pray for their crews when this is over. He received an alert, the FTL signal that had been sent from the Great Eye across the Consortium had been heard by his comrades. The first of many reinforcements would be here soon. However Gravus frowned as the Great Eye took damage from the enemy battle station, as the two giants fought it out the enemies manipulation beams attempted to cripple the Great Eye, moaning and creaking could be heard from the venerable blessed station as damage could be visibly seen forming on one of the arms, a week point. It wouldn’t last much longer, though the other arms stood the force. However Gravus covered his eyes. The Great Eyes energy levels reached critical as its hull suddenly became a blinding incandescent light. The light expanded, impacting the Matterforge at close range with its full force and continued outwards across the star system, the few asteroids and comets that were close by being utterly annihilated by the wave, even some of the unshielded Eos vessels caught by it were vaporised as their large forms took the energy wave. Almost immediately after more energy readings could be detected from the Great Eye, powering up again. Meanwhile the Attack craft and engagement fleet near the Matterforge continued to engage, bracing the wave of pure energy in a blinding flash again losing their unshielded numbers. "And so! The blinding Light of Eos is for all to see! To cast down heathens and heretics alike in a blaze of divine power only equal to the creator of all!" Gravus shouted in defiance over the coms.
The huge blast slammed into the Matterforge shielding, pushing the station slightly. Alarms went off as the shielding dropped by a large amount. The station continued to wrench at the Eyes arm with full force. Meanwhile the other countless smaller physi beam generators started targeting the Eos warships engaging the fleet, attempting to draw them towards it. The blast vaporized the almost all of the Nuclean fleet, which began to jump out of the system, leaving the Matterforge
Gravus watched as the enemy forces was systematically annihilated. Grinning he watched the remaining heathens run for it "And so the might of Eos! Creator of all triumphed over the darkness in this realm! And the rejoicing did flow from the people of the land!" He said in fiery rhetoric again. He observed the matterforge still fighting, its hold on the Great Eye still inflicting heavy damage "And now the prize. But not today" He muttered. With a brief burst of light the energy the Great Eye was powering up was released, a blinding flash signalled the venerable stations departure from the system as its FTL drive had finally finished charging, some debris fields floated from its heavy damage sustained however all that was left were the 587 ships Gravus still commanded. However he observed as the first of the reinforcements entered system, another 342 ships. Part of High Exemplar Parsus fleet. The first of many to come. However Gravus gave the signal for the Eos fleet attacking the matterforge to pull back, jumping away from it to rendezvous with the new reinforcements on the edge of system. Leaving some heavily damaged ships behind. He would wait, for the next attack to overwhelm it.
With the Eye gone, the Matterforge turned to face the Eos fleet. It jumped to 1000 miles away and began unloading with all of its weapons. It also aimed its physi beams at the largest vessels and started trying to throw them around like projectiles.
Gravus watched the battlestation engaging the Eos fleet, now numbering around 928 vessels in total he was somewhat cautious. The enemy would not so easily leave their battlestation behind, however he would happily take it from them if they so wished. Suspecting a plot he commanded the Eos fleet to scan for any power surges of magnitude signifying a reactor overload, which would give them time to jump away from the blast should they wish to go down in a blaze of light. As some of the Eos fleet exploded under the enemy attack the gold and white ships came in close and began opening up with Point wave cannons and directed energy waves, also unleashing their fighters and bombers. Once again the bombers attacked the battlestation while the Fighters engaged enemy missiles along with the ships wave weapons, swatting them from the void. Gravus knew this would be a hard fight but more reinforcements were still on the way. "And so those who would defy the creator fought to the last! With their dying breath they defied Eos and were banished from this realm with fire and light! Their very souls condemmed to the blackness of the void!"
The Matterforge fired wave after wave of from its tens of millions of guns at the Eos vessels. Millions of 100 megaton missiles launched from its missile banks, locking onto vessels and homing in, and the 144 giant placeholder turrets continued to target the largest vessels farther away from the station, each detonation measuring 7 thousand kilometers in radius
Gravus watched as his fleet took heavy casualties from the attacks, the flak and fire from the surface of the battle station blew his vessels out of the void, but in return at such close range it was a double edged sword. The blasts having taken down the stations shields now meant his forces could fully assault the station. The attack craft swarms previously deployed now dived at the station bombing the surface or where armour had been stripped away by more powerful weapons. Alot went down, as fire came up smashing those apart in bright flashes of light. His fleet took heavy fire but he smiled as he watched bright flashes from the surface of the station “And the Heathens home was cleansed in the fires of creation! To be born anew in brilliant light! Oh hail Eos lord of creation!”
On the Matterforge, alarms blared signaling the extent of the damage that had taken place. At the backup control station, Shipmaster Slyph gave the order to jump out. The familiar AI voice coolly warned "Reality drive active", and the Matterforge dissapeared, and arrived back at the system it had travelled from.
Gravus watched the station dissapear out from under him, his fleet left to reclaim the fighter and bomber waves. Cheers could be heard throughout the fleet and Gravus puffed himself up triumphantly "And so the Heretics fled before Eos might! Praise the Consortium and Eos! Well done my fellow brothers and sisters they have learnt that today you do not challenge those with the power of the one true god!" They all replied "Praise be to Eos" Gravus was once again alerted to more reinforcements arriving in system, one of the smaller patrol fleets only numbering a few hundred ships. Either way. He smiled, they would be back in time. But for now the battle was won "I want all vessels that are damaged to jump away and repair, the rest of you we stay here, take up positions and charge jump engines, they could attack any one of our worlds next"
Fleetmaster Axxee sat in the command chair on the bridge of his flagship, the Lunar, looking at the displays at his station console, checking over details. All armadas had signalled that they were ready, and the Matterforge was standing by until it received the signal.
