Captains Log
Date: June 17th 2341. Union calender.
Well I've done it, I've turned my back on the Union. We've fled into neutral space aboard the Nighthawk with the majority of her crew, we had to leave quickly so some were left behind. I hope whatever Astrid is doing it's worth it. We stopped off at Vulkan to acquire some supplies for our coming voyage. I took the opportunity to get some much needed downtime aboard one of the stations, notably in the bar. I was feeling generous and tossed the bartender one of my cards, drinks on me for the club. There's a few million I'll never see again.
Bidding our goodbyes from the station, leaving its inhabitants to party on, we made our way towards the unknown reaches of space. The Nighthawk was pulled out in a gravity well some 11 light years away into the middle of a fierce battle. The defenders had already lost a world, its surface scoured clear by some sort of biological weapon. Communicae came in from the two fleets. One, the Inari Technocracy, demanding our assistance to defend them and the other, the Yteran Nomads, wanting help to destroy the other.
I managed to broker a parley between the two and their delegates reluctantly came aboard. After some obvious unpleasantness I managed to find out both sides of the story. They both explained that the other had sent a huge fleet to attack them and so they retaliated. However something didn't quite add up so I asked for pictures of the aggressors. Whilst the ships indeed looked like the opposed faction to each of them, the ships fired weapons unnatural to them, for example the Yteran's biological ships fired the Inari beam weapons and vice versa. I immediately suspected the Unnamed empire, having had similar errors in enemy ships when facing them. I managed to convince the two factions to allow my science officer aboard their ships to clean out the virus which allows the Unnamed empire to mimic ships and make their ships seem larger. They thanked us and began talking of peace. Having gained their respect and trust a party was held in honour of their alliance and peace with us, they have even dispatched envoy's to the Union, I will have to send Hargun a message.
We lingered in Inari space for a little under a month, during which time the Yteran's have begun to reseed the world they scoured. The Yteran's have kindly equipped the Nighthawk with a layer of their biological armour for which I thank them greatly, along with assigning one of their people to accompany us as both crew member and representative. The Inari have done much the same, equipping the ship with two of their powerful beam weapons and assigning one of their own to us. Meeting such people willing to negotiate is becoming a rarity in this galaxy and so sadly we departed, bidding our farewells as we venture deeper into uncharted territory.
Ellio Darkstrider, signing off.
