As always, the D.H.R. Space agency, DaHSA, has various automated and manned ships throughout the galaxy exploring and researching. More ships as well in production for even more manned and automated missions, are already under construction at various stages in several star systems. Not much goes on that the Republik might not know of. Well, note worthy events anyway. Speaking of note worthy, three missions, two automated and one manned, were heading in the right direction and the right time for something interesting. An anomaly was unfurling in the general direction to be detectable by all three.
Automated Deep Space Explorer 2 of 20 and 6 of 20 were on a course for a chance event. As was Niberu MK II, though just barely. 2 of twenty was on the most direct course. Its massive sensor array detects something in the background that did not match with readings of that area its entire journey thus far. The huge under slung multi spectrum telescope turret slowly turns to zoom in and attempt to investigate. Sadly, due to the distance if it was currently happening visual would provide nothing. But, it was to see if something already existed that just simply was undetectable till now. Nothing. However tachyon kept bringing up alerts. FTL capable probes where prepared and loaded into the missile launch tubes. Hubble telescopes and voyagers in break apart chassis that appeared to be anti capital ship missiles. DaHSA innovation to make old systems of a day long past workable in creative ways. Only, the content while based off antiques in principle were far, far more advanced and capable. Five launches are fired away, the huge anti capital ship missiles departing to a safe range before there star fighter jump drives activate and bring them closer and closer. Once guided to the location giving the automated explore strange readings they would start to spin for stabilization and break apart and deploy there cargo. If something interesting was detected to warrant a manned mission. The 2 of 20 would automatically locate the nearest manned ship, Niberu MK II, and direct it with a suggestion for a course diversion.

The unidentified object Explorer 2 of 20 detected never reappeared on their sensors, however. Apart from the asteroids, rogue comet and intermittent background radiation and energy emissions, in fact, nothing showed up on the sensors. Though through no fault of DaHSA, as 2 of 20 spent ten whole hours searching. Finally, convinced that the UFO was a simple sensor echo, DaHSA commanded 2 of 20 to leave the sector. It had already alerted Niberu MK II of the anomaly, and requiring neither a retrofit or repair the vessel resumed its previous trajectory, piercing the dark void to explore spaces unknown.
And unknown to DaHSA, the only reason the UFO never reappeared was because 2 of 20 had been searching for a vessel or its remains. They hadn't expected that the high-energy emissions consistent with a powerful vessel could possibly belong to a life-form, never mind the fact that such a life-form could survive in the vacuum of space.
This one, however, was capable of both.
Clinging to one of the asteroids, the beast silently stared at the D.H.R. vessel, praying that it would just leave him, either ignoring or failing to notice him. Anything but an investigation. Several times he considered attacking it, wondering if he could do any damage to the cruiser. He couldn't judge its size, or even how far away it was (and that didn't help), but he assumed the worst, that a solo strike was suicide. Suicide, when at any other time, were he not so badly wounded, he could at least make a reasonable show of strength.
The fact that his armored hide was similar enough to the asteroid he rested on that it helped him blend into the asteroid belt - at least as far as sensors were concerned - helped him evade detection immensely, but of course there was no way he could know that. When the ship finally crawled forward and kept going on its way, the beast relaxed, half-collapsing to his knees as he embraced the rock-and-metal slab that may well have saved him. He spread his wings, massive and powerful limbs belonging to a creature of nightmare - even more so when one of them had more tears and holes in it than a block of Swiss cheese. He groaned, not in pain but the memory of the pain, the memory of the explosive blasts and the jarring bolts that put those holes into the wings coming back to him like a bad dream.
At once, fury washed over him. His long tail, his fearsome arms, and his magnificently brutal chest, all were scarred and defiled in such a similar manner. And why? Because he had let his guard down, become complacent and overconfident. Worst of all, he had let one woman get the better of him. He tried to imagine the glory of past battles, times where he lay waste to cities on his own and cut down whole armies in a single swoop. But every time, the fiery stare of the woman dominated his thoughts. It was a fierce fight; he had left her confused, delirious and very likely in her final moments and still his blood demanded revenge against her.
That blood demanded the destruction of the vessel which had two minutes ago departed. The beast told his own blood, his own self, that there was a more pressing matter to attend to. He needed to rest. He needed time to recover. And here he was not safe from detection. For the moment, certainly, but the safe haven he thought he'd reached was being probed by aliens. Once more he groaned. He had no choice. He had to go home.
Scanning the black depths of space once more, the beast slipped back into the void, hoping that his new destination would give him more amnesty than here.
Parsecs away, two automated exploration craft from the D.H.R simultaneously recorded and reported an energy spike identical to the anomaly that the one had detected earlier. The manned craft Niberu MK II arrived at the scene hours later, but could find nothing out of the ordinary. A relatively empty system of two planets orbiting a very ordinary main-sequence star, plus a very dense asteroid field defining the edge of the system. Certainly nothing to suggest that there had been a rupture in subspace.
