Hyoga bopped her head as one of the cook's reached over to the stereo and cranked the volume up to it's max. All around her the rest of the Skyari were cheering her on and bobbing their heads, waving their wings and just generally grooving to the beat. A few cheered as Hyoga did an elaborate spin and tapped her talons against the surface of the table she was presently standing on, a sight that would make any S-E-A back home faint from the sheer unprofessionalism of the sight. But, as many knew, Hyoga was easily one of the least professional Skyari amongst the VSDF Command Staff. For context: During a late-night Officer's Meeting the ship's Quartermaster had made the absolutely drastic mistake of cracking a joke that they should have a "pre-monster hunting party" in order to increase morale. But that Hyoga would never allow it, unfortunately they hadn't been as quiet about as they had thought. And the next day? The Mess Hall had been chosen for the scene of an impromptu "pre-monster hunting party" and Hyoga, out of pure spite, had immediately hopped up onto one of the tables and started dancing to the ear-deafening tunes that had started blasting. And as one of the cooks rushed over with a microphone, it appeared that singing was about to be added to the list as well!
Hyoga reached down and snatched the microphone out of the cook's hand and raised it up to her beak with a grin before she started singing:
"Listen, baby~
Ain't no mountain high,
Ain't no valley low,
Ain't no river wide enough, baby~
If you need me, call me!
No matter where you are!
No matter how far,
don't worry, baby~"
The sailors let out a series of cheers at the sight and some whipped out mobile devices and started recording it, meanwhile Hyoga just spun around whilst continuing:
"Just call my name,
I'll be there in a hurry,
You don't have to worry~
'Cause baby there-
Ain't no mountain high enough!
Ain't no valley low enough!
Ain't no river wide enough!
To keep me from getting to you, baby~"
The Executive Officer of the vessel, who had long ago gotten used to Hyoga's antics, merely facepalmed as he completely and utterly failed to quash his laughter at the sight. He knew full well he was going to get smoked for it later but regardless he let out a catcall and joined in with the sailors in cheering her on, Hyoga merely flashed him an amused grin before continuing on:
"Remember the day,
I set you free,
I told you-
You could always count on me darling~
From that day on I made a vow,
I'll be there when you want me,
Someway, somehow!
Oh, baby there-
Ain't no mountain high enough!
Ain't no valley low enough!
Ain't no river wide enough!
To keep me from getting to you, babe~"
As she sung that verse a gleam of mischief suddenly entered her eyes and she skipped forward towards the XO who was rapidly regretting his previous actions, knowing full damn well what she was about to do. Despite his many rapid prayers she leaned down and extended a hand towards him which he reached up and took ahold of whilst she yanked him up onto the table with her. One of the cooks rushed over and handed him a microphone which he accepted with an exasperated sigh and shake of his head. Welp, not like there was any getting out of it now. They then both raised the microphones up to their beaks and sang:
"Oh no, darling-
No wind, no rain-
Or winters cold,
Can't stop me baby,
No, no baby-
'Cause you are are my goal~
If you're ever in trouble,
I'll be there on the double,
Just send for me!
Oh, baby!
My love is alive,
Way down in my heart,
Although we are miles apart,
If you ever need a helping hand,
I'll be there on the double,
Just as fast as I can,
Don't you know that there-"
They both danced around the table in a circle as they sang whilst the sailors cheered them on, many of them now recording the soon-to-be-famed event. Meanwhile, the daring duo continued:
"Ain't no mountain high enough!
Ain't no valley low enough!
Ain't no river wide enough!
To keep me from getting to you, baby!
Don't you know that there-
Ain't no mountain high enough!
Ain't no valley low enough!
Ain't no river wide enough!
Ain't no mountain high enough!
Ain't no valley low enough!"
The two of them continued to sing along to the beat with surprisingly precision, dancing around each other and occasionally pointing at their comrades and friends at particular points and usually getting an uproar of laughter as a response. The event went on for quite a decent bit of time, with the two of them just singing, and singing, and singing. As time went on even more sailors filed into the mess upon clearing up their tasks for the day and some even joined along with the singing, soon enough it had turned into an impromptu karaoke night. The XO sang a few songs, the Quartermaster did a bit of DJ work and the Chief Engineer even busted out an electric guitar and a few amps from some hidden stash he had. Many songs were sang, many laughs had and enough sailors recording it that the Sensor-Wing had thought that they were being hit with a cyber-attack for a minute until one of their colleagues had burst in laughing their ass off and showing them the video.
It was certainly a night to remember, that was for sure. A few videos had even been sent out by a team of brave sailors to soldiers from some of the other nations assembled, they got smoked for hours once the party had ended but each one of them thought it was worth it and even the Command Staff had been amused, even if they couldn't show it. And as the day faded away everyone slowly got up and went back to their jobs, but now with a nice memory to keep their resolve firm. Though when Hyoga had woken up she knew for a fact that the 7 different net-mails that had been sent to her whilst she was asleep were of a different opinion.
But she could not care less.
