5 Shadow Guard scout vessels ploughed through the void, they were on a scouting mission in this section of deep space, they were trying to find new worlds to inhabit and exploit. Little did they know their mission was about to be ended abruptly.
Par'Lan floated in the void, his mind melded state was serene and yet powerful. He was melded to the ships AI, the Ai of the Nakai cruiser the A'Zores. He could feel the ship, its power relays, engines.... weapons. All though they were his very body. He was continuing his sacred mission, to find and recover Nakai artefacts and weapons which could result in helping to rebuild the empire they once held. The A'Zores was currently investigating a particular system when 5 ships came on scans. Par'Lan instantly focused on them and zoomed in, he saw primitive ships by his standards, nothing more than scouts. Many an enemy force was nearby. He ran the ships through the AI systems but it turned out they were not a race yet encountered. Par'Lan was about to turn away and give them no heed when he sensed something. he zoomed in again on their ships and did a scan of their craft, Nothing technological of note apart from... He detected darkness on board, the which he had not see for many years.
"Evil.... Cowards who hide in the Dark to shield themselves from the Light" he said in a serene but powerful voice, at this he turned the A'Zores and headed for the ships.
The captain of the Shadow Guard patrol stands on the bridge of the lead Shadow Blazer frigate. Shrouded in shadows, as all Shadow Guard enjoy to be, he feels the power of the darkness pulse through his form.
"Sir, we're detecting a large cruiser entering the area..." A technician says in a rasping voice. The captain of the patrol does a scan of the area himself, seeing the A'Zores on sensors. "What are your orders, my lord?" Asks the technician.
The captain answers with a voice that sounds like an echoing growl, "Acquire their attention and signal the nearest Shadow Cruiser squadron to jump to our position... stay out of the alien cruiser's weapons range until they arive..." "Yes, my lord" The technician replies. The five small Shadow Blazer fly around the A'Zores slowly at a distance, kiting the ship to keep themselves out of range.
Par'Lan watched as the small ships skirted around the A'Zores, they were tiny scouts and far faster than his cruiser no matter how advanced it was. He knew he couldn’t catch them and though he could Fire weapons at them it would be hopelessly inaccurate, the chances of scoring a hit would be astronomical. So Par'Lan with a mind pulse signalled the A'Zores to stop. The Nakai cruiser merely waited. Par'Lan knew that the scouts couldn’t hope to even annoy the A'Zores but he knew that these scum would try and destroy him, they had an aura of darkness around them. They were obviously cowards, waiting for reinforcements. Par'Lan could do nothing but wait, when they came the enemy would feel true power. He didn’t have to wait long before a squadron of larger ships appeared on long range sensors.
"Come fools, die like the misguided scum you are"
Five Shadow Cruisers exit their zero space jump, each only a little bit smaller than the A'Zores itself and resembling a crystalline mass of shadows. The commander of the Shadow Cruiser squadron hails the captain of the scout vessels. "You have served your purpose, we'll handle this from here. One vessel is no match for the power of the Shadow Guard fleet," He says in a voice that echoes as if the shadows around him were alive. The scout captain nods and steers his vessels away, jumping to light speed and heading to the next star system.
The Shadow Cruisers form ranks, approaching the A'Zores slowly. "Energy based weapons... brace up the hulls for energy absorption," The commander growls. As the hulls of each ship crackle with dark power, the commander eyes the enemy vessel. "You seek the light, as our mortal enemies do... you will meet the same fate as them... Channel the charged missiles!" The commander yells. On each Shadow Cruiser, six spikes of black crystal emerge from the edges of their roughly triangular forms, three on each side and evenly placed. The same dark power that is pulsing through the ships hulls pours into them, making them grow and crackle with power. "Let's see if you can handle five Charged Missile barrages at once..." The commander says under his breath.
Par'Lan noted the enemy ships were charging weapons and preparing to fire some sort of missiles. He laughed, the A'Zores AI instinctively raised shields to 20% and powered the hull ready to fire Quantum Firebolts. power was also fed to the Spearhead drone launchers but Par'Lan stalled the process.
"Lets see what they can do... hold fire, let them make the first barrage"
As the Charged Missiles of the Shadow Cruisers reach full power, they begin to fire automatically. Each Shadow Cruiser releases the two Charges Missiles up front, then the ones halfway up the side of the ships, then the ones near the rear of their vessels, impacting the shields of the A'Zores in three barges of 10 missiles each.
As the energy cloud from the massive explosions begins to settle, the commander of the Shadow Cruisers looks on with delight. "Nothing could have survived that..." his voice rumbles. As he looks down to the controls to tell the other ships to return to base, he notices something. The energy cloud fades out, and the A'Zores is completely undamaged.
"No... not possible... a single barrage could have been deflected, but five would have torn through even the mightiest of Trinovan ships!" The commander roars as the alien vessel turns to face him, sensors indicating some kind of weapons being powered up.
Par'Lan laughed "Fools! Feel the raw power of the Universe!" The A'Zores suddenly burst into movement, the cruiser started heading right for the squadron. All along the Nakai cruisers hull points of bright light began to appear, with a sudden burst each one was fired as the A'Zores let loose a small burst fire of Quantum Firebolts into one of the Shadow Guard ships as if it was toying with the squadron. As each of the bolts impacted their were bright flashes and in a few moments the ship was nothing more than a half melted and burning wreck.
As the smouldering wreckage of the Shadow Cruisers begins to drift away into space, a lone Trinovan Revelation-class Scout Frigate sits hidden under its phase cloaking system, having witnessed the entire event from afar. "Good Lord... we have to warn Trinova..." The captain says, cancelling his phase cloak just long enough to make the phase jump back to the Trinovan colonies in Ancerious.
Par'Lan watched the wreckage tumble away when a small alert caught his attention, it was a small scout ship. Not the same race as the one he was destroying but he only caught a glimpse of it as it jumped out of system, he had seen it as it had jumped in but the system had registered it as a celestial anomaly. He grunted and turned to the battle at hand. The Shadow Guard had continued to fire at the A'Zores as it came about and swept past for a second time, this time 2 cruisers disappeared as 2 small barrages of Quantum Firebolts impacted their hulls. The Nakai cruiser then prepared to come about again.
The remaining two Shadow Cruisers took heed of their decimated brethren, but out of rage continued to fight on. The commander's vessel had been obliterated, and the captains of the remaining two Shadow Cruisers take joint command. The Shadow Cruisers' hulls start to pulse with energy and black crystal shards begin to grow all over their forms, resembling a pair of black porcupines. The shards fly off and careen into the A'Zores in droves, not stopping for a moment as the two Shadow Guard captains look on, feeling helpless against this seemingly indestructible alien ship.
he A'Zores finally came about on its final run its shields flaring as they were impacted by Shadow Guard weapons, though not even effecting the shields the A'Zores to finish the job powered up two of its 6 QAC cannons, with a massive release of energy two bright yellow blinding beams struck the vessels head on. They died, instantly as their shields and hulls vaporized. The A'Zores powered down its weapons after and Par'Lan surveyed the scene. He sneered, the ships were merely gone, and darkness had been defeated yet again. With a glance Par'Lan turned away and the A'Zores set its course back to its grand mission.
All the while the Trinovian scout ship fled, to tell the Trinovian king of the horror it had witnessed...
