{Industrial Sector Sabotage}
The ground shook across the Foundry as lattices and girders collapsed, otherwise harmless faults in the metals linked in a devastating chain reaction of tremors. Slag-bins toppled, immolating and incinerating workers who attempted to contain the fires. Forges toppled with thundering roars, scattering red-hot steel in every direction.
None of the workers racing to contain the damage noticed the lithe, wraith-like figure fade in-and out-of visual existence, disappearing into the abyss from which few returned.
The completion of twelve capitol ships was delayed by months once the fires were finally put out. The mills would need complete reconstruction: some were simply abandoned, cut up for scrap.
{security forces meeting resistance}
The assault squad ducked their heads down as a ceiling panel popped open, revealing another jury-rigged weapon turret that now spat fire where their heads had been only an instant earlier: this sweep of a suspected terror cell had turned into a nightmare, with the first team cut down in its entirety upon it’s infiltration into the building.
No one could see the unseen eyes that, while not able to read their thoughts, could detect their every move, and counter as a result.
These cells, while rapidly being found out, were eating up resources Tenebrae could not spare for such work.
{Mass poisoning}
The Medical personnel worked desperately to try and save the few still-moaning survivors, as Police analysts attempted to discern how ridiculously toxic Dioxin gas had been routed from a chemical treatment plant into the ventilation system of the skymall. Hundreds of bodies lay, some still twitching now and then, the rest still, their skin purple, their throats bulged, eyes bursting after the suffocating gas. Not even Versus tools had been enough to save some of them.
The police would later discover a single, well-placed camera-eye that had overseen the whole event, and to their horror, broadcast it across Tenebraean space via a hacked carrier signal…
Public panic led to several riots in major population centers, and a military crackdown was needed to restore order, diverting troops that were needed at the front, to both quell the riots and search for more such sabotage. The final total meant that thirty Divisions were understrength when they left for the front two months later, their troops culled for security work and increased protection.
{multiple devices discovered}
The surveillance team flattened themselves against the pavement, and could only watch in horror as the elevated roadway collapsed: equal horror was due to the fact that the area had not been sealed, and the Bridge took hundreds of Commuters with it.
No one noticed the glowing blue eyes, miles away atop a skyscraper, standing amidst the hundreds of horrified spectators.
The serach for more Improvised weapons would take time and manpower the planet did not have, and if the news was any proof, this was happening all across Tenebrae’s territory.
{resource flow disrupted}
Fire services rushed to contain the toxic fames that ripped out of the energy containment plant, processing center for some of the more volatile of the chemicals used in Tenebraean weapons. Their efforts were futile: horrific blasts shook the very ground to the point of tectonic rupture, which only served to smash more lines and clusters, fueling the already uncontrollable flames. A Spartan civil Freighter was caught in the blast as it tried to take off, loaded with fleeing workers, and veered into the pylons of an access bridge, bringing it toppling to the ground.
The lost material, when totaled, would put no less than seven battlegroups out of action for weeks.
{Transport centers compromised}
Firefighters and rescue workers picked through the remains of the Train station, here and there pulling survivors from the rubble of steel and broken glass. A well-timed series of charges had compromised the roof to the point of no return, and it had toppled down with a groaning roar as the waiting passengers had tried to flee. An incoming express train had subsequently plowed into the wreckage, raising the casualty count ever higher.
Among the personnel, no one noticed a figure slip off one of the workers uniforms, and step through an invisible doorway that did not exist. The suit itself was deposited into one of the fires, the material quickly consumed by the flames.
The entire transit structure for this world was thrown out of sync, trains and other transit services being stopped and searched all over the planet. The delays would take days to clear up. Meanwhile, movement of troops and resources was delayed, men waiting idly on trains and transports as the tracks were searched.
(in the space between here and nowhere.)
“well done my dears, very well done indeed, Mistress is so proud, so very proud.”
Lady Despayre smiled lovingly at the cluster of teenage girls and boys who had gathered around her, on their knees, smiling in adoration up at her as they seemed to drink in her praise.
The Witch smiled: she knew the Warmaster-and their benefactors-would be pleased…..
