System 546-B
Captain Volkus sat at the bridge of the Concordia, his Pilum class battlecruiser. He was surrounded by a small fleet of other Union ships ranging from cruisers to corvettes. He was to investigate a so called 'anomaly' in system 546-B and identify it. the 10 seconds to jump exit warning announced itself and Volkus waited, the countdown on the view screen hit zero and the Union fleet translated in system. Some of the crew gasped in awe and Volkus found himself very impressed with the beauty of what he was looking at. A sphere, the size of a very large planet, looking like it was made out of... crystal.
"Sensors give me something here" Volkus asked
"Sir scans indicate it is made out of an unknown crystalline substance, we are getting power readings inside, Sir! Power levels are rising!" The sensor operator suddenly announced. A large scanning beam lept up from the surface of the world and swiped the Union ships over a few times, it stopped and the sensor operator spoke again.
"Sir the surface of the planet... some of its breaking off im also detecting multiple energy signatures emerging from the planet" She said surprised.
"Shields up, give me a visual" Volkus replied.
Down below parts of the crystal sphere were dissipating and what seemed to be shards... emerging from the planet, they were fairly large the size of warships to be precise... Volkus didn’t have a clue to what was happening.
--------------------
Darus awoke with a start, pushing free from his pod with force. From what he could tell the other captains had awoken with an equal level of worry. As he stormed down the corridor towards the bridge he saw the rest of the crew stumbling forth from their own pods, each ready and willing to die to protect the last refuge of their people.
By the time he had reached the bridge the ship had already detached itself from the surface and was making good speed towards the veil.
He was aware of the rest of the fleet following suit as they too emerged from their planet side moorings and launched towards the veil as it retracted above them.
"I want a scan of whatever has awoken us!" He barked fiercely towards one of the 'younger' crew members who immediately hailed the awoken sensors team upon the planet below.
"A large fleet my lord" the man called back, his eyes closed as he interacted with the ship. "Several larger classes plus escorts. They do not seem hostile as of yet and are holding position above Nexus. The fleet is powering weapons and is ready to engage on your order!" Darus looked over the image being projected to him by the ship itself and pondered the opposing fleets intentions.
"We will wait for any kind of communication before engaging" he ordered then sat back and continued to map out the enemy fleet.
-------------------------
"Captain sensors report those objects closing with us are in fact ships, Their technology seems to be radically different and their intentions are not yet hostile, I don’t detect them powering any kind of weapons but then again I don’t see any weapon ports..." The sensor operator announced, Volkus frowned, he didn’t want to start a war, but he didn’t want to get pounced on either.
"Hail the ships, and establish a link if you can, translate their language if they reply" Volkus said.
He looked at the coms officer who nodded to Volkus, he hit a button on his command chair and activated a link "This is Captain Volkus of the UWS Concordia, we come in peace and mean you no harm, we wish peaceful relations with your peoples and seek to help all, please respond" He could only wait and see what the reaction was.
"My lord, a transmission is coming through" Called one of the bridge crew.
Darus played the message a few times to try and asses the mans tone.
"I am Lord Darus, Beacon of the 5th Nexus protectorate fleet. What is your purpose in our system?" Darus sighed after the last word and tried to establish how many ships he had at his disposal. Should this turn to a fight he knew they weren't ready for another war...
Volkus sighed after the response came through thankful that this wasn’t another no communication war starter. He cleared his throat and replied "We are here to explore an unknown energy readings, im assuming that was you? We are not here to fight, far from it" Volkus hoped these people would see peace the way the Union saw it.
Darus was pleased by the response and perhaps it was clear in his tone as he responded.
"You would be correct in assuming it was our world creating those readings. Im surprised others have not found them before. It pleases me that your intentions are peaceful" he said assuming a slightly less alert tone.
Volkus smiled "Yes well we have been busy, allot of the current affairs are directed towards the current war. However I was sent to investigate you, I take it you would be interested in a peace agreement? I would love to know more about your people, I think personally. An alliance would suit both our nations greatly, Though that is up to your commanders"
"Indeed? Yes i think a peace agreement would be most beneficial towards both parties. We are few in number and many of our greatest knowledge depositories were destroyed many millennia ago, making it rather difficult for both us and outsiders to learn of our history. Of course i will have to converse with Lord Laramar before anything, solid, can be affirmed. I welcome you to stay as long as you wish however. Now forgive me I must go and ready scouting parties to see if anyone else survived. It was a pleasure talking to you, farewell Volkus." With that Darus severed the link and walked to a command room nearby, his first order was to lower the veil completely allowing Nexus to shine once more in her suns glow. Then he began to co-ordinate his remaining escorts to their task...
Volkus nodded, the link severed and he turned to the coms officer "Get me a link to Union command, tell them we have found another potential ally, it seems they are in a semi bad state. Tell them I am returning to Pavonis Prime and will be leaving my escorts here to aid our fellows in defending their newly awakened domain, they will contact me when they are ready to full formulate an alliance. Notify our escorts above this too" The coms operator nodded and Volkus smiled. "Another potential ally... and they seem rather... interesting" He said as the Concordia jumped out of system leaving her escorts behind to aid their new friends.
