Zarathustra, Capital Planet of the Andracken
Teo flashed through news outlets and social media posts as fast as she could. At five million posts a second she had set a new record for herself. Her days had been reduced to scanning through the Ancnet in search of people in need. But so far all she had been seeing were the same news out of the Corridor and apparent rumblings of Corona falling. Teo couldn’t care less for the nation, they were more of a nuisance that had only been bothersome since waking up.
It was boring, incredibly boring. Small skirmishes were popping up here and there in the galaxy, only requiring small fleets to deal with. An article was presented by a subroutine she had set up and she gave it a quick glance over. A riot had broken out in The Grindstone, nothing new though and she brushed it off. Another article was brought to her attention, massive fleet mobilizations in Coronan space. Something tickled the back of Teo’s mind as she brought up amature social media posts detailing movements of the ships.
Perhaps Teo would finally get a challenge if Corona was deciding to throw their weight around to regain what they lost. Looking further in she began to discover a pattern, a quite disturbing one. Fleets all across the galaxy were beginning to shift and move, it was almost coordinated. Quickly she dispatched a subroutine to investigate and compile the data on fleet movements. A separate subroutine flashed an alert and brought up a livestream that was about to start. Checking the origin a pang of irritation flashed through Teo, the central government of Orillia.
Early on in her scouring of the Anc net Teo had grown to despise the Orillians. Their senseless slaughter and destruction reminded her of her kin and what she stood for. Begrudgingly she began watching the livestream. Slowly her anger grew and as subroutines alerted her to nations calling out in support her anger grew to rage. Orillia was declaring war on the galaxy, and following their track record they would burn and pillage until they had satisfied themselves.
“For the natives of the galaxy. The Orillian Free State stands with you.” The livestream paused and the face of Madam Yrillix stared back at her. Teo’s rage began to overfill and pillars of crystal and the walls they supported began to shake and crack. Sensing her anger the guards who stood outside quickly rushed in to see what had caused it.
“Your Highness, what is the problem?” The first guard asked. Teo snapped back to her senses and ‘stared’ at the guard.
“I will have Madam Yrillix’s head!” Teo all but spat “Call the Admirals and Director Nur, we are moving to war.” The Guard rushed out of the throne room to send out the orders. Teo rose from her ‘seat’ and floated to the door, her massive form towering over the guards who now flanked her. As she neared the meeting hall the first of the Admiralty began to arrive, she coud sense them.
It took another thirty minutes for the remaining Admiralty and Director Nur to arrive. A feeling of uneasiness radiated from the collected Teorekal Andracken. For most of them this would be their first time seeing Teo in person. They hadn’t been told why they were gathered and in their short lives they’ve never had a meeting like this.
“My children,” Teo began, pausing to let the spark of fear die down, “I have called you all here today to discuss our future. As many of you know we’ve been slowly reintegrating ourselves into the galactic community and begun our Mission.” Bringing up the compiled data on fleet movements across the galaxy and the call to arms by this new CONA.
“Today the Oriilian Free State has declared war on all colonial nations within this galaxy. If you recall the debriefing early on the Orillians are a savage race that will do anything to get their way. If they are calling for the fall of the Colonial nations, they will do so with their feet wading through blood.” Quickly the fear was replaced by anger as the assorted Admirals began looking over battle data from past engagements the Orillians had conducted.
“If we are going to war with this CONA,” Director Nur spoke up, all attention was now directed to him and he felt like shying away, “Then we will need the Stagnum Vitae, we still don’t have enough Sinarum for the projectors.” He began to warn.
“It will not be needed, as of now all Ancerium will be used to fuel our ships. Stagnum Vitae will continue construction and refinement, I also must ask that you begin synthesizing a synthetic Ancerium to mitigate our losses.” Teo ordered.
“You’re saying we are to halt production of the projectors?!?! But if we don’t we won’t be able to access the richer sections of the Golden Expanse” Nur pleaded. The Admirals murmured to themselves and some attempted to whisper to the Director that he should shut up.
“Yes Nur. We need all the Ancerium we can spare, and at our current production estimates we will run dry on Ancerium before we have the minimum number of projectors. We wouldn’t be able to help ourselves, let alone any nation that Orilia and their goons set their sights on.” Teo explained calmly. Director Nur shied away and accepted the orders, relaying them to the Andracken he had left in charge at Stagnum Vitae.
“As for you, my Admiralty, I have devised a plan to use our forces effectively.” Sending out the file to the assorted Admirals Teo began reading.
“Operation Round Table will see our force of fifteen hundred ships be re-organized into twelve fleets that will each cover a region of the galaxy.” A map appeared showing the galaxy with twelve sections carved out.
“Pardon me your Highness.” One of the Admirals, and Admiral Rec, moved forward while studying the map. “But wouldn’t that only leave us with one-hundred and twenty-five ships per fleet?” She asked.
“Yes Admiral. If needed you may call upon any fleet adjacent to you, and they are the same.” Teo answered. Admiral Rec fell back and Teo continued. “You will be sent out to remote areas of your regions and Forward Operating Bases will be established to allow your ships areas to resupply and repair.” As she said this, red dots appeared across the map. Their locations varied from deep empty space, wandering rogue planets, to unimportant systems far outside normal trade routes.
“How will we know who to help if a call goes out?” An Admiral Nez asked.
“You will send out a scouting party of your discretion and they will observe the incident taking place. If it is a CONA nation, especially any who openly support Orillia and their tactics you will side with the nation they are fighting.” Teo said, “However, if the nation they are fighting is committing crimes as agreed upon by the international community, you are to side with the CONA nation.”
“Your Highness,” An Admiral Yue stepped forward, “We have already experienced incidents where we ‘play for both sides’ as the humans say. Recently two sections under my command were involved with ships from the Socialist Republics of Imaginarium. On these occasions they were fighting against them, and then several weeks later were fighting with them. How are we to mitigate an incident from forming where we attack a previous ally?” Admiral Yue brought up a good point. Teo had read the mission briefings she had referred to, and she spent several sleepless days trying to figure that question out herself.
“We will not openly side with anyone until we can figure out who we can trust. We will have hiccups along the way and we may make allies turn into enemies, but we must be vigilant in our goals.” Teo answered. Murmurs of affirmation reverberated through the hall as the Admirals mulled it over. “If that is all I now order you to your posts, gather your ships and prepare for the storm that approaches.” Teo commanded.
The Admirals scattered like ants as orders went out across Andracken space. Moving to a door leading to a balcony Teo looked out to the ‘city’ around the palace. Infantry moved in perfect unison as the armies of the Andracken began to move. Warships on the border jumped away and all began appearing in the sky. Lights sparkled in and out of existence as ships jumped in and soon the sky sparkled as the nearly two-thousand ship fleet sat above the planet. Shuttles raced up into the sky, followed by massive troop transports carrying entire Orchestras of infantry, tanks, and more. Below Teo could see Colossi begin to lumber over to their transports, their massive frames blocking out the sun on the infantry underneath.
In space the Admirals gathered their assigned ships into the twelve fleets of Operation Round Table. Several of the Admirals had questioned Teo’s naming of the operation, and the fleet designations, but they refused to openly admit it. Each fleet was named after one of the 11 Knights of the Round Table of legend with the fleet in charge of Andracken space and the region it was in being Arthur. However the Admirals did appreciate that they would no longer be fleets with designation numbers.
Several hours went by as troops were ferried into orbit and supply ships stocked up and Ancerium for the ships. Tugs moved into position carrying the FOB stations and jumped out ahead of their fleets. Once confirmation was given that all elements were ready the fleets jumped. Racing through the Meridian they paid no head to any ships they encountered along the way. Reaching their destinations the Andracken didn’t bother to mask their inbound jumps. Their stations were already set up and beginning to transform the outer hulls into a stealth material. Onboard specialized Andracken were tasked with scouring and listening in to any and all transmissions. The fleets followed suit in transforming into stealth and soon the mass of the Andracken navy was hidden across the galaxy. They powered down to minimum requirements and lay in wait for the moment to strike.
