“Spinning complacently in the darkness, covered and blinded by a blanket of little lives, false security has lulled the madness of this world into a slumber. WAKE UP!! An eye is upon you staring straight down and keenly through, seeing all that you are and everything you can never be. Yes, an eye is upon you, an eye ready to blink. So face forward, with arms wide open and Mind reeling. Your future has arrived… are you ready to go?” - J.P. Saticoy in his book ‘An Eye is upon you’ (turned into song by Powerman 5000)
Somewhere in Germany, August 1st 2054, within the Central command complex and bunker.
The distant sounds of battle could even be heard here in the earthen bunker dug for protection. The loudest of the noises were those of large bombs being dropped many miles away. A hanging light over head rattled and swayed occasionally casing gently undulating shadows across the floors, and the furniture. A single individual having just dismissed the others sat in a chair in the middle of the room looking at a large map of the European continent. A wash of red could be seen on most fronts, Individual marks indicated where friendly or enemy units were and it was clear, the red units marking Soviet ones had a great numerical advantage. Pictures in black and white denoted critical defensive points as varied half-tracks and other vehicles were weaponized and were being gathered into a form of additional defense at the borders. The lone individual moved about some of the representative pieces, a ship convoy, and some tank-like figures about in the African territories. He’d then shade his head looking to France, Britain and North America. He for a moment considered trying to capture assets left by the disappearing allies perhaps to prolong his people’s fight, but there was now here to go, the Soviets seemed to be everywhere.
“Perhaps Antarctica.”
"I would not worry so much about that...the allies have been offered a road to survival and are thus taking it."
He turned to view the source of the voice, a man who had clearly not been there before stepped from the shadows. The strange man seems seeped in the darkness that would have any other’s imagination running wild with thoughts of making a deal with the devil or meeting death himself but no something was different. He looked almost like a detective from some old movie about a crime complete with a fedora and an appropriately long trench coat both in a shade of grey with darker accents in certain places. The way the shadows cast nothing but the stranger’s jawline were visible.
"The sovereign leader of the Drache Hoth Republik I presume?"
As the stranger spoke the words thin wisps of blue-gray smoke exited his mouth through his lips which from their movements were clearly not speaking any Germanic language. The dim orange red of the lit cigarette jutting out of his mouth and pointed almost to the rear came into view revealing the smoke was not some supernatural effect. There was however no reek of tobacco nor the smell of burning to announce the stranger’s presence. The other man, paused to look back at the map to ponder moving a few pieces here and there starting with some aircraft in Africa. It was well known to the SSC that indeed alien species had been visiting earth for ages and more then one theory stood on the basis that the leader of the Republik was not human. In that instant the theory was proven as he shed the pretense of humanity to reveal reptilian features, Green eyes with red pupils that seemed not to dilate even for the change in light or in surprise.
"Survival, if everyone fled at once they all would die at once. Either way, I will stay. We will stand and fight, where they will not. If we die, we will at least buy them time. Whoever you are.... "
The man at the table spoke the words with a slight hiss to certain syllables seemingly finding no fondness for the stranger’s intrusion. The stranger seemed unaffected by the statement even as the leader continued on with his cold demeanor. It was as if he did not care that a previously unknown individual had just walked into the most secure facility the alliance had left on earth. As if to amplify his seeming disdain he continued to move the markers representing his troops about, particularly those of the National Guard and militias to take airfields factories and fuel supplies in the wake of the fleeing allies.
“And yes... that’s what they look to me as. You came here with intent... I am curious to what that is? “
"I came where with the intent of ensuring you and your people’s survival."
The stranger shifted his cigarette to the side of his mouth facing it away from the leader, as if removing the one vestige of any possible threat he may have posed. Adding to the effect the stranger leaned against a file cabinet as if to show the ease as thich the conversation was held. He clearly was here under his own intentions and had the air of someone who had the means and ability to do something in the war.
"You see, the Soviets aren't playing fair, they have gotten technologies far beyond their proper development. This is a problem, but I think you know that the universe does abhor two things a vacuum, and someone who does not play by the rules. I have a proposal for you; that is if you are willing to listen."
The leader of the republic looked at the board allowing the words to sink in as he contemplated at how fast he could have the resources abandoned in the allied evacuation. He considered how fast he could re-route it towards the Soviet-German fronts. As well reviewing what units he had currently within his terra, and what new units were being put together and currently in basic training.
“Yes, everything is never invented for the first time on this world... Egypt, other locations, has been nuked in the past. I am sure you are aware of this at how unsurprised you are to stand before a dinosaur concerning conspiracy theories of the past. Yet how you seemingly randomly appeared in my war room as you have done. I have been searching the derelict ancient sites myself but nothing seemingly has survived time and thief. So what is this... proposal of yours? "
"Of course, but what I propose is two things, a meeting with one older then you to put a true eternal perspective on things...and second to consider accepting the same as me and mine have offered the other allies. "
The stranger let the words sink in for a moment shifting his smoldering cigarette about a slight smile crossing his features. It was then a explosion rocked the shaking lights over head to reveal whoever he was he bore a Mediterranean cast and seemed ageless. The creases of age and such seemed to have never crossed his face...yet the upper half of his face remained shrouded except for the occasional brief glimpses of what appeared to be white eyes. Those eyes, there was something haunting about them as they seemingly never leaving the target of their attention.
"lets just say, that two rather important people think you and all your people ought be verily preserved from the ravages of Soviet ignorance...all you have to do is agree and the truth will be revealed, what say you, yes or no?"
The Leader of the Republik looked over to the wall beyond. It was adorned with photographs from around the globe, land sites and underwater excavations. Some were recognizable such as the pyramids of Egypt, and the temples of South America. The area of the meteor strike in Russia and surprisingly the radioactive zone far up in the mountains somewhere. Others however were impossible to tell the location of, the artifacts depicted could have been from anywhere.
“I was so close to piecing the lost history of this particular world. But every time I was about to get to something important throughout time human’s foolish desire to destroy history caused the puzzle pieces to forever be lost. Now, the foolish and blind communists threaten to destroy what little is left and repeat history. How many times must the world be bleached. I had high hopes in America... but i am still uncertain what even went wrong there or why they ignored me. Where would we even go? Mars suffered a catastrophe and lost its ability to loose life before this world gained its own. The moon has no air, and is far out of our reach. Much of Africa is lost to them and America is radiated. I have not heard from South Africa, and still await my couriers return on there situation. Where to run. Britain after they leave it? Then, to the sea? All there is to do is fight, and finish out developments of secret projects and try and bring it to where it hurts. Your help is what is needed. As for truth. Yes. "
"What you must understand is that we intend to rescue it, by accepting know that you friend will soon see that this is not an end..."
The Hub, Exact position unknown
As the stranger spoke the last three words the room was flooded with intense white light that seemed to last for just a few seconds before being replaced by new sights and smells...the new room was earthy...as if many feet below ground and comfortable but cool. About the leader was a vast atrium.... finely cared for shrubberies lay in incredibly ornate knot gardens punctuated by species of plant that were officially extinct for eons. Great arches above led to regularly spaced lights that mimicked the sun, and here and there people...clearly of perhaps reptilian decent moved about tending the vastness of the vaulted atrium's incredible gardens. It was then another person spoke, a softer voice that bore its accents of experience.
"Hmmm thank you Caduceus, I am grateful for your actions, otherwise much would have been lost."
There stood the stranger, now known by name, next to another who’s garb seemed equally out of place. It seemed his outfit matched the common American infantry uniform of the first world war. There was no mistake the uniform was clearly American by his patches and insignia, but...his eyes were as pure white as the first...the edges of his Brodie style helmet cast shadows that covered the mans face obscuring the upper features in shadow yet left his mouth and neck clear to see. The stranger turned and gently tapped the other's arm.
"Ah he's recovered....let me go try and talk sense into the Americans...they are very stubborn you know."
The other individual nodded knowingly most likely for the obvious reasons. The Stranger seemed prepared to leave as he saluted to the Leader of the Republik and began to step away from the two. The solider smiled to the stranger as he began to leave and in a soft tone commented to the effort with the Americans.
“Thank you again, your proof hope springs eternal."
Just like that in a flash of movement the stranger was gone in a swirl of what appeared to be white feathers. The new person turned to the leader of the Drache Hoth Republik and spoke in soft tones.
"Greetings, I am the First prime, the leader of the SSC, My messenger has brought you here to see what others have, salvation. But this is a bit different; others have sought survival over salvation. You seek to preserve artifacts and thus, we have this conversation for this is what SSC has sought...many of the sites you dug we got to ages before. The items sit in museums off world or are enroute to safe places away from the war and the Soviets."
The leader paused as if stunned he could be transported somewhere just like that. To a place that seemed like the largest indoor garden imaginable. “Emergency protocol will have Zenkner in command now." The leader whispered to himself as he realized that were anyone to enter the room they would find their leader missing and this unseated the whole command.
“Preservation. Data must be preserved, history must be preserved. It is the galaxy’s history as much as it is our own.... In order to find my own past, I must learn of your ... well. The humans... We have had many interactions in the past. "
The leaders words were said in that monotone he seemed to use often as his ears flicked about listening to the new sounds the sights of plants from long gone eras thought to be extinct proved to much of a temptation as he reached out to touch one as if to gauge if it was really from earth and if so, when. The leader looked back to the First prime a query forming in his mind
“First... prime. My name Is Deneb, or that is what I go by these days. "
“You can relax Deneb, you are free of the flow of time, Caduceus will put you back precisely where you were, at best seconds will have passed. I might add the plants are real, officially extinct, to the world but to us quite alive.”
The two exchanged a polite handshake before the First Prime Gestured Deneb down the seemingly long winding path. It seemed as if the curving path went on for ages beyond sight. Always was the main walk flanked by those arches that atrium and those seemingly intricate sun lamps above. It became clear that the plant life around them shifted through numerous era’s of earth’s evolution. The lights above and various environmental controls mimicked the weather of the time periods and thus literally in a garden sense they had rapidly walked through a natural living museam.
"Much of what you are to see has not been seen by earth it self for ages...the plants are a rare collection by the one we are to visit."
The pair soon came to a set of massive doors that upon their approach opened just enough to allow the pair entry. Each of the massive doors must have spanned several stories in height and were engraved with what seemed to be an abstract of how sentient life was sown or evolved on earth. Languages pictographs and even petroglyphs adorned the massive doors which seemed to be made of oak, but on closer inspection seemed to be of some form of hardwood perhaps long ago extinct.
"Ah here we are...he has been expecting you for some time...come, enter!"
Beyond the doors lay another chamber. This room was the end to the massive seemingly spiraling atrium of the eons, in the contrasting darkness of the room three eyes, two of which were pure white while a third slitted almost like a cat’s eye and golden in hue opened to inspect the visitors as something massive stirred. Slowly but surely massive coils, of an equally massive and ancient being were slowly brought into the light. A massive seemingly reptilian face emerged slowly... it peered down into those present and keenly through as if not only seeing their existence but their place in the galaxy. Moments passed on as if they were slow agonizing hours, as the being’s breathing was the only sound that filled the great room.
"I introduce you to the exalted one; he alone has asked your presence..."
