Unknown Location: Aedleshaven Corridor
Things were racing quickly.
With the entire corridor now the focus of the galaxy along with the mining regions fleets had redeployed, ultimatums had been made and guarantees had been pledged. Almost every nation was moving its chess pieces on the galactic geopolitical board and finally cashing in on favours and allegiances. Neutral parties were already throwing in their lot behind different sides as the main two power blocs were beginning to officially form.
Those who were pro-native, and those who were pro-colonial.
But of all the major players which had cast their support, one remained an outlier. The Lithorian Collective, sequestered away in the Austral Region and now having gained power the native hive mind had been out for its own agenda. Still, it was a powerful faction, and that was exactly why Orillia was now going to find out where its loyalties lay. The Lithorians had used their megastructure to open several wormholes into the corridor region, deploying forces to assist survivors and counter pirate forces. It was a drop in the ocean of course with everything going on, but it was enough, and it was a major show. To use such an Ancerium hungry asset in such an open move had made Orillia curious.
And so, they had sent a communique to the Lithorian forces requesting diplomatic talks.
Of course, things were not exactly going to be cushy. This was in the middle of a crisis and rather last minute. Located in deep space a single Orillian automated cruiser hung motionless, awaiting the arrival of the Lithorian craft, together they would link and allow a meeting in proxy. Madam Yrillix was ready for the link to be established and to talk to another native of the galaxy.
The plea to meet up was recieved without delay, though it certainly puzzled the local Collective commanders to no end.
This was hardly the time or place for nations to have a chat with another of their kind. Indeed, there were even doubts that this was some kind of trap set by pirates, they certainly were plentiful enough.
In the end however,they relented.
The cruiser would soon be met by a lithorian battleship arriving on the scene via Alcubierre bubble, stopping a short distance. While the primary need to bring such an armed vessel was mostly in case of said meeting being a trap, showing power to their would be negotiators never hurt anyone.
The bioship linked into this proxy meeting, displaying the visage of Uq'eik, the lithorian diplomat assigned to this occasion. The creature's face was covered in an array of pearly white plates with visible seams, leaving only a pair of glowing red eyes as it's only feature. Sprouting from the alien's forehead were also three horns, one shooting straight up while the others lingered on to the sides before doing the same, almost resembling a crown.
"The Orillian Free State, very fancy" The creature began, curling up one eye
"So our parties finally meet. I must say that I never expected it to be under these circumstances" It continued, the glow in its eyes flickering slightly as if they were a pair of lightbulbs
Thankfully for Uq'eik,he too was not physically there, instead connecting to the vessel by way of their hivemind all the way from the revamped Confederacy of Lakarn
"Nevertheless, you may refer to me as Uq'eik. And you are...?"
"Madam Yrillix." The Orillia replied, the holographic appearance of her showing a straight tall woman who stood with her back straight and arms behind her back. She did not entirely know how to take the first quip diplomatically. But it already set her on edge personally.
"I too wish it had been under better circumstances. I had planned to make contact in the next two weeks officially but we ran out of time. Events as everyone can see are in motion and doubtfully can be stopped. Truthfully I have come here to speak with you on behalf of our nations to learn about your goals, and what you intend for the future. Everyone knows war is coming, and given the reports and information regarding your origin within this galaxy if you are willing of course, I can offer a hand of friendship and co-operation beneficial for both of us"
The Orillian ship did not respond to the Lithorian battleship, it did not change position or take any defensive posture. It purely stayed in position and passively scanned the Lithorian ship, learning what it could in its databanks from appearance, energy signatures and FTL wake.
"I see,a name befitting of a leader" The lithorian nodded subtly at as the Orillian revealed her name, noting it down for the future.
"Ah yes,it is well known to us that you stand against the so called 'colonials',who come from universes beyond to plunder this galaxy. Given our status as natives,I suppose it is only fitting that you reach out to us for cooperation" The alien thought carefully. In his eyes, this belief was ridiculous at best. The colonials and natives were fundamentally the same, acting out in their own self interest. The lithorians were no different of course, yet they understood that well enough and held little actual malice about others doing it
And yet he also realized that this was from the lens of an observer. He read about the Orillian state and its peoples prior to this meeting, atleast what was publically available. These beings had been grounded into the dirt by colonials, and so their extremist views were only natural.
"I fear we do not hold the same opinion on such matters as you do,Madam Yrillix. But I can sympathize with your cause,I respect your people for having crawled out from the pits of despair and reached the heights you have today" The creature said, its side horns twitching slightly for but a moment as faceplates grinded against one another
"Let us discuss. Is there anything in particular that you would ask of us?" Uq'eik figured that he needed to throw his opposite a bone,so to say, especially after his past comments. Perhaps stating her demands first would make the creature believe she was in control.
Yrillix passed over the platitude, the comment that they did not share an opinion struck her clearly. If the Lithorians did not wish to join the coming alliance, something which intelligence had pointed to, then perhaps they could be taken out of the picture as an obstacle.
"My people crawled out of the depths of butchery and exploitation, something we only wish for all of the galaxies children."
"It saddens me to know that you do not see the colonials as we do, but that does not mean we cannot be comrades. I fully expect if we were to offer out our hand as a way for you to join our new coming native alliance it may not be to your exact liking, since you do not share our opinion. However irregardless of the fact I would very much like our nations to grow to know one another, to have cordial relations and in time be friends. I propose trade agreements, we have quite the open market available to us through our many brothers and sisters, and your people have much to offer in terms of production and exotic materials. That and a non aggression pact." She paused.
"If there is to be war, we should not find ourselves on opposing sides, no children of the galaxy should turn on one another in such a dire time" She smiled.
The lithorian listened intently to the woman's demands and statements. Clearly this Orillian state was bound to its ideals like a hound to a leash, something he had to keep in mind well from now on
"Yes of course,a non aggression pact would be more than acceptable. Conflict with the likes of you is not at all in our interest. As for the trade agreements,we always look for others to do business with and do not discriminate on the front. There should be plenty of room to fit you in with our other clients." He said, eyes glowing brighter with some semblance of excitement
"Naturally,I believe it is only fair for us to ask something of you aswelll, wouldn't you agree?"
The creature shifted slightly, thinking over its next words carefully
"Let's see,how do I put this....
We have been meaning to move the relationship with our close contacts of the northern Invilis Corridor to the next level. That is to say, establishing a defense and economic pact,a supranational organization if you will. Should you.....support this action,it would give that effort quite a bit of legitimacy."
The alien's eyes trailed off for a moment, looking for ways to sweeten the deal
"Surely, this is but a pittance in comparison to your vast network. Furthermore, supporting such a power independent of your own would silence any who argue you only do what you do for your own gain. On top of that,I assure you that the long term benefits will prove to be quite....vital.Especially during the crisis we find ourselves in,one good look at the map should tell you all you need to know on that front" The lithorian finished, one eye turning its glow off and back on in a split second,a peculiar gesture indeed
“Excellent, truly excellent. I believe we can have the official documents and missives sorted out via the Ancnet diplomatic channels. We as well have no wish to fight native brethren, and of course. It would only be fitting” Yrillix seemed to move slightly, not sure what she was to be expecting. The Lithorians were a relative unknown, they could ask for more or less anything.
Yrillix did not respond for the moment but then nodded and began to speak.
“What and who, would be part of this new organisation may I ask? I do agree that it would be beneficial for all parties including my own to be a member of such a pact, and that it would only serve to strengthen our diplomatic goals. But I must ask these details, to put a foot wrong for us on the diplomatic stage would be to lose standing at the worst possible time. You must understand you see; things are rather critical at the moment.”
She was right of course, backing an organisation with many colonials for example would be a death sentence for the cause. But should it be with the likes of the Zetyans and possibly others who wished to share her cause and support then it would not only be a massive economic boon but a political one at a critical moment too.
Uq'eik was more than pleased to have gotten the initial deals out of the way. It never hurt to have a large net of economic relations, especially with a prominent nation such as the Free State. The non aggression pact was merely icing on the cake,am assurance that his kind could continue pursuing their plans without fear of the rising unaligned movement
Wonderfull,I agree that these terms may be completed remotely,no need in wasting either of our precious times with bothersome paperwork. The creature said, face plated shifting as it's eyes cast a warm glow once more
"As per your other request....." He took a moment to think, horns twitching as he tried recalling the exact attendants
"The founding members will consist of The Free Confederacy of Lakarn, Olami Free States, Locus Eucephine,Golems of Galdrak, Yada Confederacy, Sadashi Remnants, Second Kalegan Empire,Clan of Trat, Kingdom of Montagal and some other nearby polities confined to a mere system. We have favorable relations with each and every one of these factions, which is precisely why this effort exists at all. I don't suppose any of them are of concern to you? Of course, I hold no control over who may wish to join after the formation is complete"
Yrillix smiled. Some of those names she knew well, Montagral for example, was a strong proponent of the CONA movement that Orillia was founding. To see the Lithorians were making allies out of their own allies was a good step towards potentially bringing them on board.
"We have no such concerns. In fact many of them are aligned with us at the moment, especially Montagal, they are close allies. To see them doing so well is truly uplifting. As such I fully agree to joining the Free State into this group, it will ensure prosperity for many, a furthering of our relations and a better perspective on the galactic stage"
"I look forward to the results this will bring"
"Oh,trust me,this is going to be big indeed" The lithorian sneered, eyes curling up with glee in response to the orillians acceptance.
With this, the groundwork for their agenda had been laid. Their plans could reach their next stage, beginning in earnest once all the details were worked out. Uq'eik himself was quite excited, once this ordeal was over with,he'd surely message or visit the other attendants to get the project going as soon as possible.
For now however,he was merely contempt that the deal had been spun, all without renouncing their colonial clients. Of course, playing both sides like this was a dangerous game. The universe has a habit of ruining perfect schemes and the alien dreaded the possibility that they may be forced to choose a camp sooner rather than later.
"Well then, unless you have anything else to ask of us,I believe this is farewell"
Things were racing quickly.
