“See them scramble to the top,
Watch them fall from grace,
Never trust a man with egg on his face.
Intellectual tarts with a good left hook,
Copycat killer, cover and duck,
Polite assassins, you shout, I scream,
And the party starts on the count of one two, three!”

Mezzanine: For fucks sake!
Steinhall: Huh?
VeilofTunis: What? Care to explain?
Mezzanine: All of it! You know what I mean too this is the fifth time my ship has been bypassed to allow the military an earlier refit gantry!
PortAuthKay: Whoa calm down what’s all this then?
Mezzanine: Don’t you fucking start, my vessel needed a coolant flush and a hyperdrive coil refit almost 10,000 AU ago. Every fucking base with refit I go to and the limitary boys clog up the lines even when I get there first one shows up and I’m at the end of the fucking line!
PortAuthKay: Calm down captain, you should know by now all the refit bases in the north region are military owned. They get priority, whoever pays the bills at the facilities tends to.
{Mezzanine has left the conversation}
Steinhall: wow what a bitch!
VeilofTunis: Seriously, it’s as if he doesn’t want the R&R!
PortAuthKay: Tensions are tight I suppose with the declaration of war after the loss of the Macon and all that.
Ionic: You don’t say. Ignoring Mezzanine’s spastic behavior I cant disagree my ship is in similar state due to delays, a K5-99 cant go more then 60k AU beyond it’s noted specs before your asking for trouble. I put everyone on furlough a month ago as we reached 70k; what’s the deal?
PortAuthKay: I can’t speak of certain things of course but, I do know the military expects to be finished rather soon.
Steinhall: …And here’s another blanket statement with no answer curtsey of the port authority!
VeilofTunis: LOL about as clear as Norfair mud!

The commissar paced as he shifted slides in the slide show he was using to support his argument. Images of the results of numerous FTL propulsion tests and their unfortunate human costs flicked across the big screen behind him punctuated only by his comments and the movements of those involved perhaps taking notes or otherwise funding discomfort in the material. At a particular slide showing Immortal Empire and SSC science vessels exploring the ‘transmitting Nebula’ in unison as a international team the commissar looked to the assembled members of the engineering and scientific leadership.
“Now I ask all of you assembled why not? This proto-matter could be the miracle material to change our fatalities and risks to successes. I do not expect it will cure cancer, nor end all suffering but it may be the vehicle by which we find the means to do so. We only need find a source rich enough to get a amount for research with considerations for the waste factor…”
“About that Comissar, the waste factor is incredibly high how can we even justify that to the treasury?!”
“Ah heres the thing, waste in processing was high with coal, peat and even petroleum much less radioactive materials in the early days we are pioneering. You need to sell it, put a cowboy spin on it, and tell them it’s the new scientific frontier and all that bullshit.”
“So the same pretty much as we did with Rochan Crystal?”
“Yes, but Rochan and the quarry here in Ancerious has revolutionized because our harvesting methods were aggressively developed before arriving in Ancerious. Proto-Matter much like Rochan is largely depleted back home…so we much have it and learn fast…”
And then the front

General Leig,
“As of this writing I have found the twelve sites proposed by the commissar acceptable for our operations as well as the associated auxiliary positions surrounding. The Galaxy Corps Engineers have for lack of better word worked their tails off to verify what was suggested and now with this transmission and its encrypted plan of action await your orders. I would like to thank the 77th engineer for its path finding and above expected professionalism during the operation. This operation could have gone far worse, and yet not so much thanks to the Galaxy Corps. Assuming the right vessels and equipment arrive it is conceivable we could be ready by the middle of July next year….”
