Confederacy of Lakarn-Invilis Corridor
The Prime Minister looked out the window,a fancy glass in his hand as he watched another riot, far bigger than any before it. The peacekeepers, now almost entirely made up of lithorian bio constructs, were barely able to hold back the crowd of people. Eventually the mass of disgruntled citizens was dealt with following the arrival of some flying creatures. They glided over them, disgorging a gas that caused the rioters to simply fall to their knees and become unresponsive, though clearly still alive and breathing. From there their detainment was merely a matter of having enough space.
The door to his office creaked open, gaining the old man's attention.
"Sir,the session has begun,as you've asked" said a young man in a fancy suit, straightening his tie with one hand as he widened the in anticipation, back pressed against it"
"Good, this is going to be quite a busy one" He said while going through the door frame.
The two passed through corridors packed with various personnel running frantically to and from various posts, often carrying mountains of paperwork in their arms. This alone was a testament to the grim situation plaguing their nation, and indeed the galaxy at large, yet it was nothing compared to what was happening out in the streets.
The man finally made it into the meeting hall, various politicians already waiting for him. The Prime Minister took his seat amongst his own political party then began to quickly do a headcount of everyone who was meant to attend. He hardly needed a list,as he knew his friends and foes on the political arena like the back of his hand. Therefore,it took him no time at all to see that someone was missing, the very head of the party that opposed his the most.
"I take it Henry will not be joining us today. I hope he has a damn good excuse" he said, eyeing the rest of the party members intently.
"He died this morning, beaten to death by a mob in his home city" one of the members spoke out, tidying a slew of documentation as he did so.
"I see…..then this brings us straight to the point" he responded, adjusting his glasses and taking a deep breath.
"The economic turmoil has hit us hard and we were not in a good position to begin with. I fear that without the subsidies and assistance of our….benefactors...we would have collapsed by now. And yet we have seen change for the better with aggressive reforms, ones taken under my authority. To put it simply,I believe it would be prudent that my party and I receive complete legislative, judiciary and other emergency powers until we can turn this around."
The room erupted into argument almost immediately, with some standing up in an attempt to make their voices stand out.
"WHAT THE HELL DO YOU THINK YOU'RE DOING? MAKING AN OLIGARCHY?!"
"YOU'RE SELLING OUR COUNTRY TO THE FUCKING ALIENS"
"THIS IS TREASON! A VIOLATION OF THE VERY CONSTITUTION!"
A plethora of remarks continued to bombard the old man before he slammed his desk with both arms, earning a brief bout of silence.
"Gentlemen,I will ask that you remain calm. I only have this country's best interest in mind and nothing else. All in favour of my notion, please raise your hands"
Unsurprisingly, the entirety of the Prime Minister's party was in agreement, however some hands from other groups could be seen aswell, earning them looks of disbelief and disgust from their peers. Nevertheless, the result was clear,it was about 30% to 70% against as far as he could tell.
"What a shame,I was hoping you would all see reason, but I suppose that's asking too much from you corrupt lot. Uq'eik, proceed as we discussed"
Suddenly, all the entrances into the chamber swung open, allowing lithorian troopers to flood inside. The vile beasts were tall and bulky, with an almost metallic exterior sheathing their bodies. One arm was some sort of living weapon, which was quickly trained on the few human guards, before the other clawed one pinned them to the ground.
"You are to be considered enemies of the state and treated accordingly, that is all"
The creature's were quick to move onto the mass of politicians, seizing those that had opposed the earlier proposition. One of them recoiled as the crocodillian snout of the alien hissed its serpentine tongue at him, avoiding contact with the eight glowing eyes located on its underjaw. A younger one actually slipped through the grasp of a creature, ripping his sleeve and cutting his arm on its digits as a result.
"YOU PIECE OF SHIT,YOU CAN'T DO THIS" He shouted, rushing towards the old man before a railgun round hit him square in the gut, pulverising his entrails and splattering them over the detaines behind him.
"I would argue this went well all things considering" came the familiar voice of Uq'eik, heralding the arrival of the lithorian within the chambers.
"May I request your presence 'Grand Oligrach'?"
"Of course,we are done here anyway" the man said, following his alien benefactor down the corridor.
"How are the Armed Forces doing?"
"So far, only a small percentage have mutinied or otherwise expressed concern. It is not hard to see why,the bonuses we instated and the protection of their families was remarkably effective"
"People will seek order in such chaotic times, when they see the chance at stability, they take it"
"Perhaps. Implant rates are proceeding slower than expected, currently sitting at 50%. Two more weeks should have us covered on that front however"
"And the automated units?"
"I suggest you see for yourself" it said, pointing to a nearby window.
Another mob had gathered outside the parliament building, this time in greater numbers than ever before. The thin line of enforcement personnel were being pushed to the brink as several gassing rounds only served to render some of the mob non threatening. Despite this they could not be detained, being soon surrounded by swarms of their still conscious brethren. A look of surprise swept the Minister's face when a gunshot echoed amidst all the screams, followed soon by a molotov cocktail hitting one of the lithorian creatures.
"My,I did not count on this being a live demonstration. This is better than I hoped" it said, the crown like growths on the creature's head starting to visibly vibrate.
As if on command, several garage doors normally belonging to small repair shops swung open near the site of interest. What came out of them were large autonomous vehicles on tracks which promptly proceeded to occupy the streets to either side of the mob,the gates of the parliament building further limiting their choice of movement to only the street behind them.
As they rolled down the street automated messages began playing, calling for the immediate submission of the assembly for apprehension. Most were very much intimidated by this, getting on their knees and praying or crying out in distress. Others however still stood, holding up signs, waving flags and even throwing objects at their armored oppressors. Fate was not kind to them,as rotary cannons attached to the turrets of the drones began winding up,before promptly letting loose showers of lead into the perceived threats. By the time the gates opened for hundreds of law enforcement personnel, mostly lithorian,to come out,the scene was one of people who kneeled being covered in blood and gore.
They did not make any movement to resist, understanding that their antics would no longer be tolerated….
