Clack, clack, clack, clack.
Ki'nak Vol'nisa tapped his pen, someone he knew sitting in front of him pensively. In front of him, projected holographically, was the last page of the Jobediea report he'd heard so much about lately, and had been reading for the last several hours. His front lips raised in muted intent as he reached the final line, and after one more quick scan he turned the projector off, leaving him face to face with the person he'd called here.
"So, you've read this shit front to back, right?"
"Y-yes, sir." said a Fg'han Y'hola, recently called back from his post somewhere in Helis territory.
"Right. So, what's the summary here?"
A quick clearing of his throat, and Y'hola was soon giving the verbal cliff's notes.
"In ess-s-sentiality, the r-report says in succinct t-terms that a galactic war is not only in-n-nevitable, but that e-everyone will be at each other's throats come the next t-true crisis. When they published t-this report, some b-big economic nation... N-Natar, I think? Fell into an economic crisis through m-mass hysteria, and in turn caused a mass market crash t-that's currently going across the g-galaxy, s-s-starting from the Killian V-Verge."
"In addition to making A-ancerium cheaper than dirt, i-it's also desatpil-ahem Destabilized anyone w-who was connected with them e-economically. As far as I know, we're n-not that badly affected by it-K-koa knows we've hardly reached out until r-recently-but some of our major c-corporations have gone bankrupt, with s-some of our megacorps buying them out and some f-foreign ones also taking s-stabs. Additionally, our mining d-deal with Umpreta is going to be v-very shaky thanks to the dirt cheap p-prices of Ancerium, and they've made sure I've h-heard all their complaints about it. H-Helis and Kolura are also worried about it, t-t-though since our deals were just trade i-in general I don't believe it'll affect our a-agreements with them as much as with U-Umpreta."
"..mm." Vol'nisa made a noise of affirmation. "Anything we can do about it?"
"Not im-m-mediately, no. I know we've g-got our own Ancerium megah-harvesters on production, so I could send w-word to our friends they're a-available to buy."
"Not im-m-mediately, no. I know we've g-got our own Ancerium megah-harvesters on production, so I could send w-word to our friends they're a-available to buy."
"Yeah, do that. Should lighten things up a little." He said in turn, nodding.
"And..." Vol'nisa looked around for a moment, cautious of anything recording. Koa smite him if he got caught in another ChourFan leak again. "Will this affect the project?"
"...some of o-our men might be slower to work than u-usual." The two shared a light chuckle.
A pensive silence followed, if only for a few moments.
"...i-is this why you called m-me up here, sir?" Y'hola soon asked. Memory told him he was called up for an important diplomatic assignment.
"No." Vol'nisa said, a slight shit-eating grin on the other side of his face, out of view. "But I figured, you're Kho'tharan, you know economics, might as well do two rockrats with one bullet. Y'know."
"Of course, sir." An unamused Y'hola could feel the narrowing of the eyes. "Who am I to see now?"
"Well, we were recently contacted by someone else who wants to be friends. They saw what our project did, apparently," he spoke while bringing up something on his projection reader. "and they're interested."
"T-they came to us?"
"Yup." The reader suddenly swung around, showing the AncPedia page on another empire. One very close by.
"Tell me, you ever heard of the Isoterrans?"
