Arx System, Isoterran Empire Territory
Lord Fisk sat at his desk within the sector capital palace on Arx, while the dark grey clouds that nearly always covered the city pelted the large window behind him with raindrops. His attention was not on the gloomy weather outside though, but instead the various cabinet members arrayed before him for their daily meeting.
First to speak was the representative from the Department of Business and Industry. "It has now been almost 26 hours since the Jobediea Report was published. Our economy is currently fairly isolated from the galactic one, but the foreign stocks we purchased have significantly dropped in value. Ancerium prices are also at a current low due to the crash, which I recommend we take advantage of. Finally, we have been made aware of a magic-saturated area in the northern part of the Unmar Expanse. I also recommend we take advantage of this discovery. That is all."
Fisk nodded in acknowledgement, then waited for the next cabinet member that needed to speak, which in this case was Fleet Admiral Vito, Fisk's senior most military officer for the Ancerious sector forces.
"I have been working with the Department of Intelligence to verify the Jobedia Report's claims of war being imminent, and based on what we have found, it has been assessed with high confidence that the report is correct. With that in mind, I believe we should accelerate the progress on the current new strategic weapon project. That is all."
"Very well" Fisk said, looking around the assembled cabinet "Who is next?" The various members looked around, each murmuring that they had nothing new.
Looking towards the Business and Industry representative first, Fisk said "Alright then. First off, I want to pursue these leads on the ancerium, by purchasing mining infrastructure in the main areas, and we should probably also start stockpiling the stuff itself since the price is so low at the moment. Second, I'm also interested in this magic-saturated zone, and want it investigated. If the investigation is promising, then go ahead and start establishing a presence there. We should be able to divert some military resources to ensure things go our way as well" he said, glancing over to Admiral Vito.
"Which brings me to this part about the galactic war. If that's the case, not only should we focus on weapons development, but we need to engage more with nearby unaligned and major nations to ensure we have a good support network. Ambassador Renata, I want you to handle that, and Admiral Vito, you have the go ahead for accelerating the strategic weapon project. I'll also see about requesting some extra resources from the Grand Directors."

Within the week following the cabinet meeting, NSIC began carrying out Fisk's instructions. Utilizing Arkaya Mining and Transport, as well as a multiplicity of shell companies, they began stockpiling ancerium and buying up collection assets at Fountainhead, Garren's Clarity, and within the Golden Expanse, along with nearby storage and processing facilities. Meanwhile, Rannin Holdings began purchasing many of the existing harvesting companies, which had gone bankrupt due to the sudden drop in ancerium value. The final step was sending multiple patrol squadrons to protect their newfound purchases at the collection and processing sites, the clearest signal that the Isoterrans had entered the market.
While the economic dance of purchasing occurred on the ancerium front, a more direct operation occurred in the Unmar Expanse, within the Saturation Zone. At the edge, a small fleet consisting of science vessels, modified interdiction and null field platforms, 2 battlecruiers, and 8 frigates arrived. Quickly, they set to work, activating the interdiction and null fields, fine tuning them so that they could traverse the mana-saturated space within a small bubble of safety. Once this safety net was in place, they moved forward into the area and began testing, transmitting their results back to Imperial space. As the days continued, more vessels began to arrive, this time with construction supplies and equipment, with which they began building harvesting stations to draw in the mana.
