Gilitim snapped at his assistant as she straightened two little crossed flags. The Empyrian one pointed outwards to the door of the temporary office, the Union pointed towards where Gilitim sat on the desk. The Room was a slick white on pink office, glass or marble tables and shelves accented the calming aurora of the room, smelling slightly of roses.
“What does Saffire normally drink?” Gilitim said, straightening his tie quickly and combing his hair back. His Gray suit was punctuated by a soft pink tie, and Empyrian pendant.
“No fuckin’ clue, they must keep that info fucking top secret, because I cant find shit. You want the normal?”
“Works, but wait here until she comes in, then get out. Also, please make sure the security don't come in, I want to make it just face to face please.”
“I’ll try my best sir”
Gilitim looked at his watch, realizing that she would be here any moment. He stood up, looking through last minute articles at the back of his head.
Saffire was quick to arrive, the Empyrians had given her a set time for the meeting and she was fully intent on being there.
It did not take long for the Union princess to be seen by the guards, although she was no longer wearing her armour she did wear a beautifully embroided set of clothing that kept close to her form, nothing fancy by the Unions standards given the government had absolutely insisted that she wear the most outlandish things for diplomacy but on her part it was uncomfortably over the top still.
She bowed as she was let into the room and smiled as she always did to Gilitim.
"Thank you for inviting me to this meeting, I dont suppose we need proper introductions? I have been honestly doing that all morning. Something more informal would make a nice change" Her casual hint showed she honestly did not mind.
As Saffire Approached the office and was seen by one of the first of the inordinate amount of security the Empyrians normally bring, the buzz of the security was toned down a bunch of notches as she wasn't rolling up in a giant suit of armor. She was let in with no problems.
As Saffire Entered the room, she felt as if a mental wave of calm washed over her, like a strange amount. A bit of it escaped the room before the door slided to a close behind her. Gilitim nodded his head in respect as he motioned her to sit.
“Before we get to anything like that, stunning dress Saffire, I wish I could be allowed to wear something as fancy as that. Oh, but yes don't worry, I’m not here to re-create some ceremony, and I think most of the time formality is just a shield for insecurity and gets in the way of real Diplomacy. Nevertheless, would you like a drink?” he looked over to his assistant now, who was standing upright on one of the corners, as she flicked out her PDU from a sleeve.
"Thank you, I appreciate the sentiment. And yes I will take a drink if you are offering. Truth be told the pomp and fancy get to me very quickly, but I appreciate your cander. I understand you are new to this galaxy yes? Our intelligence reports that you were briefly involved with the Gauss affairs before their collapse and occupation, a sorry state of affairs but one that sadly bureaucracy on our part preventing us from quickly intervening in" She sighed, the government had done well in the rebuilding, but the keeping the peace element she was dissapointed with. Still the calming feeling she had felt caused her to twitch, while it was very nice and quite comforting the feeling out of nowhere unnerved her.
“New to expansion. Until recently, we have.. kept to ourselves.” Gilitim leaned back in his chair, after nodding for the assistant to leave, leaving just the two in the room.
“The Gauss is one of the more concerning situations we have on our radar currently. The thing is, we know the Furrelians are strong, everyone knows it. Their Military is full of veterans, while most of ours is relatively green bar those who fought recently in- well I need not bother you with details.
Point is, having the Furrelians occupy a place in space so close to us is utterly unacceptable, and with the uncounted dying a day, the sentient rights catastrophe going on is sickening.
I know that the Union is closing up, and I accept that, but we need your help to push our agenda to get the furrelians out and give the remnants of the Gauss the autonomy and help the people there deserve. Having a dictatorship there is not only a stain on the international scope of the galaxy, but also on us as we fail to do anything to stop this violation.
I know you and the Union are reserved, but from Democracy to Democracy, we need your help.”
"Understandable many seem to do so, it is however good to know you have decided to join the galaxy proper" Saffire smiled.
"It is indeed one of ours too. Along with the Army of the Panopticon, Orillia and the Royal Federation and so many others..." She sighed "I don't doubt the Furrelians seem capable in combat, after all the Gauss were a formidable nation. I believe your forces will be up to the task however, it may also be due to the Gauss underestimating the Furrelians that they lost at least whats what our government analysts assure us" Truth be told she wasnt convinced, Saffire knew threats when she saw them.
"Their position to you and the abuses against sentients is indeed a massive tragedy that we wish to see rectified but..." The princess seemed almost exhausted with a moment.
"It is true we have been. We were at the forefront of the galactic war and the peacekeeping, it exhausted our population and our government does not want to send our people to die in foreign conflicts across the galaxy once more. I personally would fully support us intervening and fully wish to extend full ties to your nation, but I cannot speak in absolutes on behalf of the government, Any agreement I make and any assurances I give you may be false promises if our congress disagrees with the sentiment. I can promise you diplomatic aid, sanctions and economic support right now without reservation, but military support?"
"That may be out of reach..."
Gilitim nodded, sighing as he contemplating his new words.
A weird new foreign sensation seemed to evolve in Saffires body, the calm turning to more of a guilty pang. Saffire could feel the change, and while it felt foreign, it wasnt something she could cringe back too. It was a infectious kind of feel, and while she knew something was up, her sub-concious didnt fully realize it, so she wouldn’t either. It felt weird, but it also felt like it hit a limit, and wouldnt be able to go farther then the power it went now. Saffire was strong, and while she could resist it, it would be a taxing endeavor.
Gilitim looked back up, finally finding the words he wanted to say;
“I have heard of the valiant deeds your nation has done, and for that, I’ll thank you. The sad thing is that we all have limits, so I understand and will accept that.
I will ask this though. Many of the military folk I know before this have come up to me asking for some way to train their men and women. They dont know the doctrine that is common in this galaxy, and intel can only give them so much. If you are willing to sign a economic and Diplomatic treaty with us in the near future, is it also possible you could sponsor a Pier training initiative? I dont know the specifics per se, but something along the lines of Naval Wargames, Ground Forces training and Doctrine employment, as well as any Ideas the Union may have to make our fighting force ready for the challenges of the future. Do you think that is possible?”
Saffire felt the feeling on her mind and recognised it, psionics of course. The man was trying to subtly influence her, not in any aggressive way of course but it was definately something she did not wish for. Saffire had been manipulated and influenced her entire life, she would not let herself be so again, regardless of intent. She erected mental barriers and merely smiled, the look on her face indicated however she knew.
"I appreciate the kind words, it is indeed a dark day when the Union finds its limits. I can only hope the people in time come to see the things we stood for again. As for training that would be a real possibility. Intelligence we can of course provide, but a small military contingent to assist in training your fleet and army would be something I can very well see the Congress agreeing to, it would assist in image, assist your own situation but not put our troops direct on the line. The public would support such an action, and given time and closer ties it could lead to limited direct military assistance. I very well think it is possible, probably the best route of action"
Gilitim craned his neck as he felt the recoil of the psionic counter. He has never in his entire life had resistance except from Purps, and even then it wasn’t like this. as he looked back, he gave a relenting smile, as he gave up the trip.
“Thank you- honestly. I know that the Union is reserved, but many of us, especially those who can see the big picture are worried. This encroachment is something we cant ignore and some are even frightened by. The help of the Union will not be forgotten, I assure you that.”
Saffire did not seem angry at the intrusion, merely nodding in agreement.
"Many of us within our nation are also worried about the big picture, as said many are encroaching and the galaxy is becoming a darker place. I can only hope we may work together to try and at least bring some light to it, I only wish the AGA was still around, for all its problems such an alliance could assist in keeping the peace. You will have as much assistance as we can give you, that I can at least promise"
“Speaking of that, has there been discussion of the creation of a Democratic Galactic Treaty Organization or something of the sort? Or is there something in the way of that I’m not aware of?”
Gilitim settled back into his seat, and naturally the feeling of calm re-entered the room. Realizing he was doing this though, Gilitim craned his head once more, and the small foam of an ocean like wave retracted as quickly as it came.
"I assume for democratic nations? No. Many of our close allies are, less democratic than one would expect, no less supportive of their own populations however. The Ancerious Galactic Alliance was an organisation that was built for galactic stability and defence, it is with a heavy heart that I must say that despite its many accomplishments and victory over the APP it had many issues and was disbanded a few years ago. The only galactic organisation now is one focused on mutual diplomacy and economics, not one for stability or mutual defence. As much as I wish the Union to rebuild another defence alliance the government is not wishful for such at this time" She sighed.
“Well, maybe the Union is the wiser one for staying out of trouble, while we are the ones reeling for it… But hey, if you need any backing for something, I hope i’m your first call.”
Gilitim leaned back in his chair once more, looking at the small ornamental flags on the desk. Gilitim was to a refined eye a bit off-put now, as he was spending half of his mental energy stopping his calming feeling from escaping him. Saffire, the much more potent psionic, could feel the small foam waves around Gilitim being released, and pulled back. He taps his hands on the desk, looking back.
“Well, is there anything else we need to go over?”
"Perhaps, but I think the next few years will show us if that is really the case. And I believe that perhaps we should establish embassies between our two nations, for further diplomatic missives to be conducted quickly. I will relay what we can agreed to the highest diplomatic channels anyway, I am sure the Congress will make a final descision within days" Saffire nodded.
"Why do I always forget things like Embassy's, of course of course, i'll organize that in no time. I'll also have my staff write up some formal treaty or whathaveyou to get the ball rolling at least, better now then never considering the bureaucracies we aren't allowed to skip because we actually treat our people with a level of decency, oh well." Gilitim finished with a tint of sarcasm. He Now stood up from his chair, shaking his head in finality.
"It really has been a Honor Saffire, I do hope we meet again soon."
