Chief Petty Officer Ernoz Loz, a light skinned red-eyed gentleman was looking down at Commander Marsin Gaulle. A dark-skinned soldier with old, worn features. A visitor and host of many combat operations. Now retired to desk work. But still unbecoming of a common desk jockey. Marsin was the Field Commander of the Alpha Hell Jumpers which defend the installation.
Ernoz was the commanding intelligence officer of the Ancerious colonial outposts belonging to the Interstellar Covenanted States based on Hao. Ernoz and Marsin both fought in Amani Unus some three years ago, and they both were stationed together at the colonial outpost of Hao. The war with Atlantis was waging on in the home galaxy of the Milky Way.
Their greatest secret was protecting these colonies in Praetor, Hao; and Libert'e. “Commander Marsin,” the Chief Petty Officer started. Walking into the worn soldier's office. “We have word from our pickets near Praetor.” He began.
“Good news or bad?” Replied Marsin. “Well, take it as you will – our probes found a passing enemy scouting party. We monitored them as they passed us by.” Said Ernoz. “No engagement?” No, sir. None.” Replied Ernoz. “But they were heavily armed, and the seven of their scouts could take on our planet alone. They'd put up one hell of a fight.” Ernoz continued. Frowning. Marsin looked up at him, annoyed.
“In the field of battle, even the most outnumbered and technologically outsmarted societies can still win the day. Resourcefulness and creativity lay at the heart of every battle decision. That is why we put you in charge.” Ernoz put his head down with undeserved shame. “Oh, come on now, Ernoz.” Started up Marsin, as he stood up to face his superior and best friend. “Your actions have saved many lives before, even when Atlantis threatened us and wiped out the worlds Nouve-Hao and Maticca. Two worlds we are still fighting for today. So don't look at me and bow your head. You're twice the commander I've been in battle, and even more so behind a fucking desk. So stand tall and proud. Look at me; and say what's on your mind. Sir.” He stopped to breathe.
“Okay, Commander Marsin. I'll tell you what: We can't recapture our lost colonies on dwindling resources. Atlantis is known to have city destroying bombs and a massive intergalactic arsenal of weapons of mass destruction. They've used on Maticca, bombs that cause unknown illnesses. Our civilians and soldiers returning from combat report respiratory problems. Bumps and bruises over their bodies; and suffocation on their own body fluids.
On Nouve-Hao, we've reported soldiers finding civilians buried in mass graves, and houses quarantined due to a massive outbreak of bubonic plague. An Illness we had to consult allies to learn its secrets. Currently, we are hoping for a miracle if we can face them in open combat. So you want to know sir, what's on my mind? I'll tell you: We fight from the hills. We let them invade and occupy. And use their arrogant imperialism against them. Our civilians here on Hao are fleeing to Costellon by the day. Let us prepare to welcome our enemies here, and give them a good stay. We can minimize dwindling resources and leech off the enemy. I've begun training my regulars and marines already for a prolonged combat. And the Stateswoman has agreed to allow us the opportunity to keep permanent troops here and train a civilian militia in the art of asymmetrical warfare.” General Marsin, who survived whatever Atlantis could throw at him, smiled curtly.
“Count my Alphas in. I'll report them to basic training tomorrow. Hell, I'll be there to fight with them, too.” He said. The two men shook hands, and Ernoz walked out of the room smiling. He was walking through the skywalk that overlooked the planet. Watching the cities on the surface, and wondering what is going to happen when the enemy pickets find out about the riches on Hao.
