Free Confederacy of Lakarn-Invilis Corridor
Bonflen wiped some sweat off his forehead as he walked through the corridors of the government building, trying to be as quick as possible without attracting suspicion from the countless lithorians patrolling their building. He had to get back to his laptop, post his findings and get out of there, perhaps to a news outlet so he could expose them on television aswell.
He didn't care about the method, all he knew was that the people needed to know the shit these aliens were doing in their country. The man froze when he came upon the door to the storage room he kept his portable computer in,seeing two of the things at either side of the frame. They were big, about two meters tall in spite of their hunched necks. These were the most common ones, thick and burly, dark yellow exoskeletons, four arms tipped with three sharpened fingers, digitigrade legs with two digits and an insectile abdomen meant to conceal a deadly stinger.
One of them turned to look at him, mouth open to reveal dagger like teeth and mandibles chittering. He felt a shiver run down his spine as its glowing red eyes blinked sideways, which quickly turned to dread when it beckoned him to come closer, another hand tapping on the door.
Shit he thought, they wanted him to go inside. There was no doubt about it,they knew he had been up to something. He thought about running, but that notion quickly ended when he heard heavy footsteps behind him, followed by an iron grip on his shoulder. Bonflen reluctantly agreed, opening the door and seeing his opened laptop on a table amidst the cabinets and various shelves. Across from it was a freakishly tall figure in pale robes sitting on the chair Bonflen had brought in. That was Uq'eik, the boss of these beasts.
"Next time you try to investigate someone,I'd advise using a firewall that isn't made by a proxy of theirs" the creature said, picking up the laptop and spinning in the chair.
The lithorian brought the device next to his face and pointed at something. It was exactly what he had mentioned, the logo of the company responsible for designing his cyber defenses. It was nothing too flashy, just their name written in a strange font and three lines coming out of the text to form what looked like a crown. Now however, the side by side comparison allowed Bonflen to notice said lines perfectly matched the Trio of horns on Uq'eiks head.
"Now that we have that out of the way, let's go for a walk, yes? There is somebody who'd like to talk to you"
Two of the alien's lackeys searched the man vigorously, taking out the stick he had saved his data on and handing it to their master. The four of them then left the room and began walking the corridors once more, heading to what Bonflen thought would be his demise.
Various colleagues of his watched as he and his company walked by,some showing worry on their faces while others hurried to get out of the alien's way. None tried to help him or so much as ask what was happening.
As they continued,Bonflen was perplexed,he knew the route they were on and and it led directly to…..
"Here we are. Please head into the Prime Minister's office, mister Bonflen" Uq'eik said, opening the door and gesturing him inside.
The old man standing at the desk gave him a worried look, putting down the book he was reading and adjusting his glasses
"Bonflen? Uq'eik? What is the matter?"
The man wasn't entirely sure what on earth the alien was getting at by bringing him here of all places, but he would certainly not pass up the opportunity.
"I'll tell you what's the matter! These alien freaks are planning to dope the algae supplies they sent us! I've got all the evidence! They want to make the population more docile and easy to manipulate! I've seen it used on the factory workers Sir,you have to believe me!"
The old man paused, looking over to the his fellow and sighing
"I know Bonflen,I'm afraid I asked them to do it" he said, taking off his glasses and setting them on the table, now eyeing the lithorian instead
What was that about evidence?" He asked inquisitively
"It's all on this stick right here. Don't worry,we'll be more thorough going forward" said Uq'eik, showing off the tiny device before promptly crushing it in his hand.
"I-I don't understand. You're in league with these monsters!?" Bonflen shouted, now fearing for his life more than ever.
"Look around son. This country is falling apart. We have to take drastic measures to ensure all this ethnical friction doesn't spiral into civil war. There is a time and place for democracy and this just ain't it." The old man slammed his fist on the table once finished.
"Take him out of here, use the drugs, erase his memory I don't care. Just make sure he isn't a problem without killing him. I'll pay out of my own pocket if I have to."
"That won't be necessary" said Uq'eik, signalling his creatures to tackle Bonflen before dragging him out of the room screaming and fidgeting.
"This is seriously getting out of hand. That's the fifth one this month,I believe?" He said, cleaning up his glasses as he spoke
"Sixth, actually. You should not expect an easy process when overthrowing a government, even one as inefficient and corrupt as this one" Uq'eik said,as if it were a common fact.
"Point is,we need to proceed faster. How long until your peacekeepers are ready for deployment?"
"Assuming there are no distractions, they should be planetside in a week's time. Everything else we've talked about will commence afterwards"
"And the final phase?"
"......"
"Well?"
"Perhaps I spoke too soon. There has been a certain incident with a lithoid species and we are trying to ensure it does not repeat. As for project New Frontiers,it is still on the drawing board,in grave need of interested associates. We are hard pressed at every juncture Prime Minister, you have to understand"
"So you're saying it's not happening?!"
"I never said that. I need you to be patient about this. You have asked and The Almighty will provide. Your dream will be achieved, rest assured, just not on our initial schedule" said the lithorian, doing a courteous bow before leaving the room.
The prime minister sat up from his chair, moving up to the office's window to look outside. There was another riot at the entrancr, demanding that a certain minority of theirs be stripped of rights. It was the 50th such riot this year. He watched as a combination of Lakarn peacekeepers and lithorian creatures struggled to contain the displeased masses. Soon,he thought, soon this would all be over. Soon their people will know only joy and decadence, soon they would be praising him in the streets,as their glorious leader. And then, finally,as their god.
