“All right, Captain. Here is what I am asking you to do. While Captain Lucija Euthymia and her naval infantry try to flank around the left and secure the office blocks, I need you to take the blocks, the ones with the big restaurant and that hospital. I will strongly suggest you to be careful. While reconnaissance has reported that there should be little resistance, there will still be resistance. So, once you take fire, immediately respond as much as you can. DO not worry, the armor will be behind you. Only Captain Lucija has to worry about herself since we could not send her armor. But for all of you, I’ll get the artillery to help out. In the end, Captain, once you are done taking those blocks, meet her and her men at the markets in the center of the city and then join her in securing the road on the opposite end of the city. We’re guessing from other reconnaissance reports that a significant force of Auraxii, armed and dangerous, but also accompanied by what seemed to be refugees, is moving towards you. I hope you will do this well for your first mission here on this planet. Do you have anything to say?”
“No, sir, I’ll have my men out there and ready for whatever is coming. For the glory of the Queen and for the unity of the Worlds. I’ll do what it takes, Commander.”
------------------
Captain Manuel Alvarado took one more time to check the ammunition still in the magazine of his rifle and then raised his head above the ruined stone wall to scan for threats. What answered him was a burst of Auraxii gunfire that peppered the wall and almost hit him. He managed to dive back into cover and avoid most of the shrapnel as he made his visor go down to protect his face. Behind him as he remained in cover was Lieutenants Lucia Escribano and Nazaret Tassis. Along with them were their own men. The wall was a part of a more ruined building that should have been a large school.
The Captain turned to his lieutenants and told them “All right, you two. We’ll wait for the mortar teams to start hitting the Auraxii. I want no heroics. Lucia, you’re taking your men around the left flank and pepper the enemy with all you can. Nazaret, I want you to take the right flank and see if you can do the same but I need you to advance against the enemy as much as I and my men will, got that?” Nazaret nodded her Syran head while Lucia simply said “Got it, Sir.” To which, the Captain then said “All right. Everyone get ready. Move fast and do not be afraid to use cover. That’s what we’re here for.”
They gave it time as the men prepared themselves, gripping their weapons tightly and moving their fingers close to their triggers, visors going down as each of them also silently had their armor activate. Then came the mortars as they whistled so loudly before they crashed into the ground and made the soil thunder. A man among them said “Thank God for 120mm shells!”
A few men laughed but it died as soon as more and more 120mm shells struck the ground, each shell just torturing the area. Soon enough, Captain Manuel ordered loudly “MOVE UP! MOVE UP!”
At his words, even as the bombardment continued, the men rushed out of cover and started running as fast as they could through the rubble and dust of the city outskirts. Men went to the left flank and right as well as straight forward into the battle. As mortar after mortar fired and provided them with much needed suppression and destruction of enemy positions, Manuel was happy to see Lucia and Nazaret lead their men as they needed to. They all led the way, running first.
For each group, there was always a team of four that gave covering fire using machine guns or automatic rifles while the rest moved up. When the rest were all right, the teams moved up while four men split up from the rest and provide covering fire this time. On the other hand, it helped too that they had the Contestar tanks right behind them several hundred meters away, letting their main autocannons (For this occasion, the UWA tanks had to use autocannons instead of machine guns) spit 30mm or if the tanks had two autocannons, launch 20mm rounds at the enemy. And for each autocannon firing, the receiving end got tons of explosive and armor piercing power. Not to mention countless shrapnel.
Captain Manuel reached the enemy lines just as the mortars stopped firing, as did Lucia and Nazaret. All three and their men saw that, as they closed in into the center of the enemy positions, there was actually nothing left. Blood and limbs and organs and bones and so much more scattered all around the ground or rubble. It did not surprise Manuel but it did shake some of the men and Lucia, who promptly bent down to vomit. Manuel then just told his men
“All right. This is clear! Let’s keep going now! MOVE OUT!”
------------------------------
Captain Lucija Euthymia kept her head down as she and ten of her own men sprinted through the street, under overwhelming machine gun and cannon fire from the roofs and the end of the street until they reached an office and dove inside, shrapnel striking their bodies even as they got into cover. The Captain then grunted as she patted her helmet clean and pulled up her visor, revealing her blue eyes and fair face even though she was a hybrid of a human and an Alonsenai. She screamed at her men as they cleaned their visors quickly or checked their bodies for wounds
“ALL RIGHT. IS EVERYONE OKAY?”
“We’re all good, Captain!” Shouted Eva Dan, a sergeant who was actually busy calling out the names of her men. Everyone indeed was good enough to still stand, run and fight. Lucija nodded to this news and then said “Very well, Sergeant. Get the men upstairs. We just entered one of their positions. If I remember, they’ve got two machine guns on top and a 20mm autocannon.” She turned to a short female naval infantry woman who was charging up her prototype grenade launcher attached to the barrel of her assault rifle “Marine. I want you to be the one to destroy all enemy munitions and heavy weapons. If you die or get wounded, your buddies will take care of it. You understand?” The woman nodded and just said “Loud and clear, Captain.”
Lucija then nodded to that and then let her visor go down. She lifted her carbine up and then told the men “All right. Let’s go.” She then pointed to a human naval infantryman and told him “You. Take point.” To which the man obeyed and went towards the stairs nearby, climbing up slowly, his SMG up. Gradually he and his buddies and their Captain made their way upstairs.
Meanwhile, a message reached the Captain through the embedded computer in her mind, allowing her to read it with the help of her eyes, which were actually artificial.
YOU GOOD, CAPTAIN?
She replied to the message with a thought.
YES. The Captain then heard their point man say “Clear, move!” And the rest of her guys went up to the second floor. She replied further as she took her turn to go up to the 3rd floor first.
MOVE INTO THE AOE. ENGAGE. CALL FOR “JUNKERS” TOO MANY HEAVIES.
YOU GOT IT, CAPTAIN.
Making it to the 3rd floor was uneventful. At each floor they went up to, there was really nothing left. Chairs and tables were lying around or were heavily damaged. The tiles of the floors were fucked up. And everything else smelled or were just ruined as much as this planet was. The Captain however was incredibly suspicious. Every floor was clear. No traps. Were they all this stupid enough to be just at the roo-
“CONTACT! CONTACT! ENGAGING!” Shouted Eva, who followed up with a long burst of rifle fire which coincided with a few bursts of energy SMG rounds from the enemy. The Captain heard Eva grunt as she took cover behind a corner of a wall while the rest of the men moved into cover too. Only the Captain chose not to, detaching a incendiary grenade from the vest she wore and then tossed it towards the offending Auraxii in the hallway. Only after that did she elect to take cover and in just three seconds, the grenade burst open with raging flames and some explosive effect, tormenting the Auraxii if not disabling them. The Captain and the marine with the grenade launcher then followed that one up with a burst of fire from their weapons while Eva returned to toss another grenade into the midst. But it wasn’t an incendiary this time. For the heavens willed it that Eva sent a 0.21 kg explosive close to the Auraxii. It detonated in just two seconds and forced the Auraxii caught in the blast to die rather quickly. If not, they would just die of blood loss and extreme burns as the UWA naval infantry passed through, relying on their armor and uniforms to protect them from the aftereffects while the Captain took the honor of shooting any suriviving hostile twice in the head with her pistol. Ah, what a wonder those 10mm rounds were.
Minutes were taken as the eleven marines reached the roof and, with Eva taking point this time, witnessed the UWA NI launching their grenades at whoever they saw was on the roof. A series of explosions rocked the structure before the marines went on the roof now and started to shoot those who survived dead while the Captain and Eva chose to get to one side of the roof and shoot at the other Auraxii on the other roofs and windows. They had at least 15 seconds spent until they were forced to take cover when a machine gun team of Auraxii spotted and started shooting at them.
But just in time, “Junkers” arrived. But they weren’t a person. Nah, they were what any human would call an attack helicopter. And at this point, Junkers was one of the many rotorcraft that still served the UWA even though its design was a dozen years old.
So quickly and so silently they came that just as the team of Auraxii was beginning to get to their third burst, the 30 mm cannon of Junkers and almost ten rockets came after them, destroying most of the top of the building they were in. Then, just as quickly as they came, the helicopter began to massacre every other Auraxii in the windows and on the roofs nearby, most especially ruining their autocannons and lighting up all the ammunition they had. But of course, the UWA marines had to dive and stay for cover, not wanting to get hit by all the burning ammunition flying around now as Junkers eliminated the resistance that the Auraxii in Bzura could ever offer. And this was all over in just a few moments in time. Once they were finished, Junkers rose up into the heavens, the Captain hearing her vest radio say
“This is Junkers, I hope you’re all right, Captain. Your men?” It was a feminine but machine voice. The Captain simply chuckled and responded by pressing on the PTT button on the radio and said “Yeah, I’m fine. Same with my men. Appreciate your help, Junkers. Keep your eyes on us all always.”
“Will do, Captain. Junkers moving out.”
And so did the mighty, air-chopping machine go forward, towards the city proper, shooting its 30 mm cannon at any armed Auraxii they spotted, even going as far as shooting pairs of rockets at those that carried more significant weapons...like an RPG.
And at this point, as her men secured the roof and the marine grenadier took care of grabbing whatever remained of Auraxii weapons, the Captain said to the rest of her men
OFFICES SECURED. MOVE INTO THE MARKET.
----------------------------------
Another helicopter, the Lyrebird (which was more of a reconnaissance helicopter as it was armed with only miniguns that could either fire lethal anti-personnel rounds or armor piercing rounds designed for ruining the days of AFV crews) flew over the tall buildings of the city, also providing support as her remote controlled miniguns started to massacre whatever the helicopter saw on the streets or roofs with 3 cm rounds. Lyrebird then stopped midair and made a turn towards the right, allowing the two miniguns on its other side to focus fire on the Auraxii inside the market.
But just as Lyrebird was doing such a great job, UWA forces led by Captain Manuel and Captain Lucija started to overwhelm the hostile Auraxii. The infantry were also being followed by a pair of Contestar tanks, namely Neo and Chaos, who supported them. Their main cannons were not used as the crews simply brushed the Auraxii they found with either their autocannons or roof mounted MGs. Or simply crushed them underneath their treads, a rather positive decision by the UWA military to keep them.
-------------------------------------
The end came with the city coming under full control of the UWA, the roof of the highest building, a tower nicknamed by the UWA as Conquest Tower, anointed with the flag. As the white bird of Alondra witnessed from the heavens, Captain Manuel met with Captain Lucija.
Both of them chuckled as they both offered to each other a cigarette. They quickly withdrew them from each other and simply started a conversation, Captain Manuel speaking to her first as they stood in the middle of the market, UWA soldiers and naval infantry moving from place to place, setting up a small post, while others began to take care of defenses
“So, Captain Lucija, I finally get to meet you.” To which the female simply smiled, a ray of rare light coming from a marine who just went through hell. The woman said gently like she was speaking to someone older “Yes, indeed, Captain Manuel. I appreciate what you did there.” She nodded to the streets from where he came during his attack. She continued “If I may, I’d like to get started with the next task of our mission. After all, Bzura is the first city we have taken and the first to serve as our foot into the fire.”
Manuel agreed “It is. Let’s get to it then~”

"All right, listen up. Her Majestys fighting women must move on to their next task. Our given is that we are to secure the road opposite to the one we came from. While some of us have moved on back to that road and secured it, we are to take care of the other one. We are expecting a lot of possibly hostile Auraxii to come here. So heads up and do not relax just yet. I want people to take care of weapons and ammunition. Call also for some supplies. We will need what we can to defend this city we just took."
"Good prep, Captain Manuel. All right, lady fuckers. The Naval Infantry is going to be the ones to take the turn of helping these guys out again. If need be, they'll do what they can to destroy as much of them. If not, they'll help them out and get them here safely.
But we are Naval Infantry, ladies. And as the Naval Infantry, we can't let this be the only thing to think about. Prepare for anything. We have very little time, ladies. Get to it!"
