"What do you see here that is out of the ordinary?"
Colonel Major Myrza Sham scrutinised the video roll carefully. It was the scene of the IRS's disaster of a ground assault on the industrial deserts of Rubikon II. Machine gun fire hummed in the background with the thunder of explosions kicking up smoke and sand into black grainy clouds that obscured vision. IRS soldiers rushed to assault one of the Capitol's mechanised infantry brigade near the city of Nyr where they attempted to relieve Restevian troops surrounded from all sides.
As the video roll went on, Myrza started noticing interesting details of the IRS's skirmish with the Capitol forces. A platoon of riflemen had flanked a Capitol machine gun emplacement blocking one of the roads and conducted a surprise assault on their positions. So far it was the standard; troops were charging guns blazing in close quarters, shouting and growling in tandem with the accompanying Commissars' battle cries and uplifting music blaring from their mounted loudspeakers. Then the reaction of the Capitol forces began to get interesting.
"I aint gonna kill my own brothers!"
"Screw the Kapos! I rather die than die a traitor!"
"For the Republic!"
It was nothing like Mryza had seen before. The entire machine gun position soon erupted into a chaotic mutiny as soldiers began throwing down their weapons in defiance of their Kapos' orders or even attempting to melee them when they were made aware of their rifles' IFF systems. All of a sudden, one by one the soldiers started exploding into bits as their explosive collars detonated and the emplacement fell silent even before the IRS could reach it. Shocked, they continued to press on cautiously. Soon enough the machine gun position was captured and secured.
The video roll was stopped. Mryza looked up to Klausstrum who was standing in front him.
"These..."Capitol" troops...aren't exactly Capitol aren't they, sir?"
Klausstrum nodded. "Upon further investigation, some of them were even identified by our facial recognition software. They were the expedition sent to Tau Volaris when the settlement there went dark."
"There were over 10,000 troops in the Tau Volaris Expedition and over a million Singaporean settlers on Tau Volaris when it was captured by the APP."
"And if the Capitol captured them as slaves then..."
"Then there is a chance many of them are still alive, somewhere within the Capitol borders as slave troops or slave labour," Klassutrum handed him a dossier. Inside it was a map of the Capitol's systems, some of them circled in red. "These systems have been identified by Union as labour camps back in the days of the First Ancerious War. Even now, there is likely to be a high concentration of slaves there. In addition, these systems are of economic importance to the Capitol whether in raw materials or food. Evacuating the slaves and destroying these mines or farms will put pressure on the Capitol war machine."
"And I want you to assemble and deploy the necessary forces as you see fit in order to accomplish this mission."
Myrza took the dossier in his hands, feeling the weight of responsibility on his shoulders. He eyed the closest planet to the IRS's outermost naval bases, Yinchorr.
"It will be done, High Commander."
