Auraxii Territory: Palar Rift
It all began with the ceasefire.
With the Auraxii being close allies of Capitol and the APP they had almost overenthusiastically committed themselves to defending Capitol when word came in that both the Crucible and Rubikon were under siege by the AGA. Despite the massive tech disparity and sorry state of the Auraxii economy they mobilised their forces almost in their entirety to aid in such. The great houses needed a rallying cry something to prove that their race was perfectly capable of waging war in this galaxy on a galactic scale, something to reinforce the houses rule and jumpstart Auraxii society back on track.
And so they sent their entire fleet, leaving a meagre skeleton force to watch over their own territories. It was one that the AGA or more precisely, the Artificia were keen to exploit. Being somewhat in diplomatic relations with the Auraxii the AU saw an opportunity, they knew this move would likely either destroy or sour relations with the nation but it would also take them out of the war, allowing perhaps further diplomacy and a method to end the war by cutting out an entire nation of the APP. Either that, or they would be the harbingers of death, crippling Auraxii worlds and infrastructure taking them out of the war through force.
The Auraxii had tried to keep their nation afloat before. With co-operation between them and the Accordite multiple worlds and systems had been conquered between the two nations, while many smaller species had been subjugated the Auraxii were rapid breeders and the constant expansion brought new homes for the expanding peoples. Still Auraxii society was clan based, constantly in conflict and based on strength. As such when the AU made their move it would spell disaster for the Auraxii as a whole.
With their forces fighting or en-route to the frontlines the AU having detected such a large movement of forces close to their space made their move. FTLing multiple strike groups to appear above nearly every major population centre the AU instantly targeted military installations, assets, shipyards and infrastructure critical to the Auraxii nation. They also broadcast a message, negotiate a potential leaving from the APP, withdraw your forces from the conflict and you won’t be fired upon. Refuse and your nation will be brought to its knees in a single barrage. Before any hot headed Auraxii commanders could refuse, or outright fire on the AU ships the head house agreed to the terms. Orders were sent out, and defences were de-activated. In return the AU cooled their weapons but stayed ready, now alerting the AGA and the Union to the situation as reps were sent.
The meeting was brief, the Auraxii would leave the APP, withdraw their forces from the conflict and in exchange the AGA would protect the Auraxii from APP repercussions and also open up trade with the former APP nation. With the head house having negotiated this dissent, anger and outright hostility now raced through the Auraxii populace. Even as their forces were recalled from Rubikon and the Crucible commanders flew into fits of anger, feeling betrayed by their very people the military acceded the orders out of family honour but not with eagerness. The APP itself also angered by the Auraxiis sudden withdraw and the public galactic announcement of the Auraxii surrender now withdrew its total support of the Auraxii. Capitol withdrew all trade agreements and joint operations, quickly scrapping anything of their own in Auraxii territory and enslaving any Auraxii still in Capitol territory. It was a defiant move but with little forces left the APP could do little more.
But it was enough.
Even as the trade agreements were slowly being brought up between the Auraxii and the AGA the collective anger of the species boiled over. Humbled in what was to be their moment of glory, forced to abandon their values, bow before their enemies and now with their economy sliding into total collapse the riots began. Small in scope at first but then spreading rapidly like wildfire across Auraxii cities, planets and then entire cities. Betrayed by their own large houses coups, purges and family killings erupted forcing Auraxii society to totally collapse. The AGA could only sit and watch, offering aid where able as the Auraxii people tore themselves apart.
The main house was torn down, destroyed by internal fighting and the other large houses before the power vacuum was filled with blood from the other houses as well. Food stocks were pillaged, destroyed or simply not refilled and infrastructure was destroyed. This led to massive starvation, resource wars, viral outbreaks and more as millions died from the ensuing violence and chaos. Even AGA elements, now containing Union, AU, IRS and Carnaithian elements came under attack by elements of the Auraxii military rallying around particularly bloodthirsty and vengeful commanders. Each engagement was brief with the Auraxii forces being destroyed either by the AGA or those Auraxii still loyal to the original ruling house. Either way the territory descended into anarchy, tiny nation states, and pits of infighting, charnel houses and utter chaos. The AUs method to end the war and help the Auraxii had been the very thing to destroy them, always an unstable aggressive species this one kick in of the front door was enough to bring their rotten structure down around them.
The AGA did not sit around, they tried to save as many as possible. Safe zones were erected, medical supplies and food given out and general humanitarian efforts undertaken. But for every planet they attempted to save 3 more went dark from bloodshed, in some cases the Auraxii on the surface even resorted to atomic warfare between the varying sides wiping out all in a brief moment of fire. And yet it still got worse.
The Varren, the lesser species that had evolved alongside the Auraxii and that had been repressed for centuries also saw their chance, now rising up and slaughtering their oppressors the Varren stole technology, ships and rallied their kind. Creating even more problems for the Auraxii the Varren either attempted to seize control of planets or leave to go to such planets that were now Varren controlled. Cities burned as captured Auraxii vessels were used to level their own settlements from orbit in acts of rage imprinted on the psyche of a race that had been oppressed for as long as their genetic memory could remember. The AGA tried as they might to stop incidents like this, but they were too many and the peacekeeping forces too spread out. In the end the AGA reinforced the sanctuary’s and accepted refugees, only venturing out into the chaotic Auraxii space when truly needed.
Without the protection of a coherent military or government other factions also took their chances. The Accordite seeing the act of surrender totally dishonourable were disgusted by the Auraxii and claimed numerous systems from them close to the Accordite border, liberating their populaces and integrating them into the Accordite. While the Accord had left the APP they did nothing to stop Capitol forces also making hit raids on Auraxii space although they fought them where they tried to steal from Accord held systems, dipping in to strip and steal resources or particular caches of Auraxii military material. The AGA was most active in stopping these raids, and running battles between APP and AGA elements were periodic as both tried to wrestle control of the region from each other’s grasps.
With the region now in chaos and being an open wound the chance was perfect for any nations within the close region to exert their influence on the situation.
