The room was quiet, amongst the participants of the meeting, none dared to speak first, the soft, humming noise of the RAVDs hung in the air, the faint orange glow painting the room in a somewhat eerie light. Representatives of the major branches where called for a discussion on how the Dectrose Empire's interests where progressing. With some self-assurances, Powell stood first "I suppose I'll kick things off. As it stands, the defense of the Dectrose Empire's planets have been.. insufficient. We have lost two planets already, Kaikoma and Uproth, both of which where vital to our efforts and our economy. I would greatly suggest tasking several existing fleets into dedicated defense fleets, rather than looking outward, we should be looking inward."
In response, Arrington let out a scoff "Inward? We have just formed the FDC, our defenses are assured for any further attacks, not to mention that those responsible for Uproth where caught. We called in on our Mutual Defense Pacts, and it was enough pressure to force a surrender." He quickly drank some water, as if out of nervous habit. "Though Powell, I agree that placing some of our Admirals on defensive duties may give an air of protection, from outsiders looking in." Admiral Benson nodded idly, before speaking "The Imperial Border Guard are on it's highest alert as of yet, I can safely guarantee that the IBG are solid in their effectiveness. We responded to the BSO that had attacked Uproth, and with the latest additions from Rangvald and Triarch, I don't believe that any single nation could hope to match our Quick Reaction Forces."
Landow took this moment to pipe up, speaking in an almost boasting fashion "Of course, the effectiveness of your IBG relies on the Oracle, and the upgrades we have made are far superior than the IBG's Border Stations. Though the threats against it are.. childish, the Oracle stands firm, I have my assurances from Bohler himself that no harm will come to it." Benson scowled at Landow, the latter crossing his arms triumphantly, before the air was broken by Admiral Byrd "That remains to be seen, if we fail in defusing the situation with the AGA, you will likely be the first to be engaged, and it's doubtful that the FDC will come quickly to the defense of this nation if the Union of Worlds spearheads such an assault. No, I believe that the sole focus of our fleets should remain in defense of this nation, we've done enough harm to our neighbors and the galaxy as a whole."
Landow and Powell exchanged glances, and then returned their gazes back to Byrd. She nodded to both of them, and continued "So then we agree that there will be more defensive assignments to new and existing admirals and the fleets they command?" Voices of agreement rolled through the room, and it was then done. The next topic at hand was then brought forth by DRI Administrator Lanai "Our research thus far has proven to be moving at the regular pace. Though Daedalus has asked if we are to follow the Tyberous Agreement signed by the Dectrose Empire and the Meralis Republic, does such a document have the power to restrict our options in this new galaxy? This of course would open up avenues of orbital bombardment, use of weapons containing biological agents, chemical agents, pathogens and viruses. The already existing research made on the Artificia would fall under this area, and it's use as an agent to infect their population with sterilization."
There was a low murmur between representatives, talking amongst themselves as Landow addressed Lanai "Why not? It's not like the Meralis will come here to find out we broke an agreement, as long as we continue to uphold it in our galaxy, we can exploit it here. It's been a crutch on our nation for too long, if other nations can do it, why can't we?" This was angrily interjected by Byrd "Because we have already destroyed relations with many nations because of the actions of Saber, who followed your ideas and thoughts to the letter, I wonder if we'll have to demote you, and send you off to another nation's prison before you act on your hateful ideals." A growl escaped Landow's lips "Try it, see how far you go before you end up like Fischer."
The air became tense, hot, and ready to blow, Lanai shouting quickly over the assembled people "We need to know what DRI can or cannot do in this galaxy! I personally believe that the Tyberous Agreement remains as a code of honor, and we must hold onto such agreements so we don't become a failed nation, and a token of morality so that we don't fall into the abyss as System or the Divine Davian Empire had." Slowly, the tense air subsided, for now. Arrington slowly, cautiously entering the mix "I think.. Maybe we should research the chemical, biological, pathogens and viral agents enough to form a defense against such, and to keep any and all stockpiled to an absolute minimum. Orbital bombardment should remain outlawed, as it stands."
Cooling her seething breath, Byrd added "And the Artifician data?" Benson replied then to Byrd "Close it, we have no need for it, unless the Artificia become a threat. If Bohler's assurances to Landow are correct, they won't be." Lanai nodded, and waited for a few moments, the assembly choosing to honor the Tyberous Agreement, and to close the Artifician data, opting to store it away. Arrington's addition to create defenses against those weapons outlawed by the Tyberous Agreement also agreed upon. Lastly, Acting Admiral Bradley stood up, quiet for the most of the meeting, but now sought to ask this final question "On behalf of Admiral Timmer, what are we doing to rescue our men from the Shades, our next plan of action, and what presence will we have in the galaxy? From what we know, we've stuck our noses into major events and have been burned several times. What level of action are we going to pursue?"
From his seat, ATAF General Michael Vaosk leaned onto the table "This remains classified, though I will tell you that we are following up on a lead given to us by an Annointed Shield Guardian, whom was captured with the BSO following the attack on Uproth. From what I know, Vibius is in command of the operation to retrieve our men out of enemy hands. He is a tenacious commander, he won't let Skalia run for too much longer." He leaned back, in thought "Level of action.. What presence.. You are correct, Bradley, we've been burned several times, but why stop now?" Byrd pushed into the conversation "Because of galactic events, politics and the bigger picture. Limiting our hand in this galaxy allows for a cool down of heat and pressure on the Dectrose. No doubt we have had a sour light shed on us, rumors exist on the Ancnet about us and overall we are viewed with much suspicion and distrust."
The General gave out a sigh, as Byrd continued "I suggest we only stay at our current level of action with those nations allied with us or with those that we trust. Pushing any more into situations out of our control will only lead to more incidents and more chances for mistakes." Bradley looked at the both of them, he was personally out of his depth, but holding steady, as much as he could. "So then, should we do that?" His eyes glanced over to Landow, visibly, he was in a very sour mood, while Powell just watched blankly at the conversation. True, this was out of their territory, but to not have a quick opinion, or interjection was off-putting. "Alright then, shall we?" Byrd stated, as if in a tone of finality. The representatives agreed in a majority, and thus, the major topics where covered. Economics and projects reigned in the aftermath, talks going on for hours after, but it was an interesting development in the Dectrose Empire's path.
