The little sun started to sink into the emerald forests and dark brown rows of soil devoted to plant life and animal raising. They belonged to Alondra, a planet known for its fertility and many continents and islands, giving her inhabitants a great deal of comfort and feeling which is good. Observing a part of the land known as the Alondran Peaks. While indeed the city was named after the gorgeous silver tips of mountains that decorated the northern forests and the eastern approaches, it was where the private retreat house of the leadership of the UWA waited for its masters.
Today, President Shayrack and Vice President Jalaja chose to pay it a visit for a few days out of necessity and out of want. Secretary Karaza politely rejected a joint invitation by the two politicians, wishing to continue her work over the Representatives. For now, it was only the two of them together at the wide balcony overlooking Mount Cale, which was named after the son of the first mayor of the city. Vice President Jalaja chose to start her conversation with the President by reminding him why it was named after a young boy.
"The boy loved to climb mountains. But one day, he got sick and was forced to remain in bed. He was constantly in pain and his father, the mayor, was forced to give his duties up to his second in command in order to take care of his son. While his second in command, his vice mayor, did the job well, the boy became sicker and started to cough up blood and to sweat so much, his covers and sheets had to be replaced every day.
His father mourned him for many days until, when the day came for him to return to work, he announced that he would name one of the mountains after his son if the city allowed him to. It touches me every time I hear about it.
On the other hand, it brings me to the issue of our country. We just came from a rebellion. We put it down but at the cost of dealing with the aftermath. There are still insurgents hiding in the remote areas and we, the UWA, are vulnerable. Not only internally but also externally."
"You make a good point there, Jalaja." Shayrack finally spoke, his voice slow but clear. "There are many factions out there that pose a threat to us. A faction has come too close to our borders especially with the traffic increasing incredibly quickly. On the other hand, an unknown threat is coming close to our systems and we have no contact yet with a fleet dispatched to an abandoned system that sent out a distress signal. There are many things we must conduct in response to these matters." She simply nodded in agreement.
Then she added after a pregnant pause "We have done what we can with our army. They will handle the situation on Satembi. If need be, we will send reinforcements to the abandoned system." Shayrack then pointed out to her "True, the army is ready. They have accepted the reforms and have carried it out years ago. But right now, what we need is experience, not inaction."
She responded afterwards "Our navy is working on their own reforms. But good news for us came with the reports that colonies have been established in the systems we explored."
"What are these systems?" He asked. At this time, he leaned towards her and carefully tried to listen as she listed it down for him
"Tana, Cade, Winososa, Sinah, Karyorri, Tabyna, Pavao and Anokhiv. Five of them are continental worlds while Tabyna is uninhabitable and the rest are tropical worlds. These are all the systems we could add to our faction for now."
"For now?"
She nodded. She explained afterwards "We will have to establish the colonies on these systems before we can expand any further. It will also give our navy and army rest from their efforts. And it will give us time to see if the factions close to us or those observing us will come to us."
"Very well. Good work, Jalaja."
"It is not mine to claim, I am afraid." She said with a small smile. She let that go when she said "The concern I must bring up with you next is the state of our political system. I am afraid we must consider purging the fascists and the communists in our party list." It made the president shake his head as he looked away from her. Jalaja pressed her point, saying "Violently or non-violently, we could do this. But this can be the only thing we can do to quickly put away extremist parties from our way, therefore ensuring internal security and stability. If not that, we probably can consider other options proposed by our police or our own party members. They suggest that we simply boost the popularity of our own and of those parties aligned with us."
"Do you really think those other options can work, Miss Jalaja?" He didn't seem happy with it and he looked at her again with a stern expression. Jalaja simply did not return it and only said, simply enough "They will not work at any level we wish it to unless you make a decision with me and the Secretary and make it happen."
He agreed and looked away again, towards the sights of the Alondran Peaks. From the heights where their retreat was located, he could look down on the metropolis and all the settlements beyond it. The great industries and prospering homes of his own people, be they human or not. For as long as they were citizens, they were his own. He added to the end of it "I'd suggest you try out boosting our party and those with us. On the other hand, I need you to send out peace feelers to our extremist factions. We will call a public meeting."
