The fall of an empire is rarely a quiet thing. Usually such events involve galactic war, virulent plague, or some other outside influence. But with a relatively unknown nation, or trio of nations, just that happened. They fell quietly, and it took weeks for anyone to realise anything was amiss. When Vaanitas vessels went to see what had become of their ally, they found ghosts and wreckage.
Immediately suspecting the members of the Davian defence forces, the captains of the expeditionary force were eager to seek proof to reignite the conflict. What they found was far from their expectation. The damage caused to the ship was from no Davian weapon, nor their allies. It was from the SIlquami themselves. Unable to comprehend this, they proceeded to land on the Ars Safeaa capital of Seuaskar. What they found was nothing short of a warzone. Corpses filled the streets, blood dashed across the sandstone like structures of the Silquami.
Ruined buildings still smouldered in places as the Vaanitas scouts moved cautiously through the ruined capital. The battlefield was gruesome, not just soldiers, but the women and the children too had been caught up in the violence. Wrecked vehicles blocked parts of the road, the damage to the city so extensive they had to continuously reroute down other streets or through razed buildings.
The team crossed the river running through the destroyed city and looked up at the former capital building. The once grand pyramid was sundered and smoking, a monumental crack down the centre of it. The steps up to the pyramid were littered with corpses of the guards and assailants alike, the stairs stained red with the blood that must have flowed down them.
The interior wasn’t much better. Corpses filled the halls and once beautiful sculptures had been torn down to use as barricades. Murals on walls had been ruined by blood and explosions, hours of work destroyed in seconds. Nothing living resided in the halls. This seat of power had become a tomb.
Searching the throne room finally gave some clues, a broken dataslate under a dead priestess. Once decoded it gave the full bloody tale. After the victory at Voi Con the three nations of the triumvirate had begun to quarrel over religious differences, as they had done centuries before. Ars Safeaa had advocated a full blown assault on Saigon, whilst the Suerarib had urged them to dig in and prepare for a counter attack. The Salnuwatir had asked for calm from their sister nations, saying the gods would guide their hand. Angrily, Ars Safeaa snapped at their sister, admonishing them for daring to speak for Sek when Ars Safeaa were his chosen people. The Suerarib were much the same about their goddess Sekis.
In the dead of night, plots were hatched, and fleets were moved. Whilst not totally oblivious to this, the Salnuwatir did not expect the ferocity of their sisters assault, and having relied on them primarily for offence and defence they were massacred. What few disciples survived fled to their home universe to warn of the coming betrayal. With their sister dispatched Ars Safeaa and the Suerarib turned on eachother, devolving into a brutal war of attrition. This religious war lasted for weeks before what few forces were left withdrew home, preparing for a war of galactic scale.
Such that it came to be only the Vaanitas, Cricaen’s and a small remainder of Silquami were left to tend to AURA. Those Silquami who had resided in allied space wept for their kin and turned away from the faith of their gods, for what gods would let their children turn on eachother. With their ally gone the Vaanitas and Cricaen’s quickly took control of their former space to maintain appearances, and much work was put it to make all seem well. Border stations were hastily re-manned and cities cleared of the leftovers of conflict. Some Silquami moved back to help with the rebuilding effort, whilst others stayed in their allies space, not able to bear the pain of returning.
So the former Silquami space came to be known as the AAZ or the AURA Administrative zone, where citizens from all its nations resided and worked side by side. Whilst on the surface this show of unity was warming, it was still a zone administered and controlled by the Vaanitas and Cricaen’s. With only a tenuous hold on powerblock status rather than just being an alliance, the Cricaen Kingdom and Vaanitas Supremacy planned their next move. Silquami records still remained of signals from nearby that matched AncNet sources pertaining to a nation known as the Free Worlds. An invasion plan even existed, one that perhaps would be put to use in due course…
