Askandar System: Elwar Custodial Space
Yet again Askandar was the home to negotiations which concerned the stability of the region. Then again Elwar was pleased of such. This was his goal after all.
The Andrackan had moved to state that negotiation between the Pact and themselves was a possible way forward. Despite this the Pact did not trust the Andrackan, and Elwar did not either. With the events of Zaingraf still days old Elwar was at full alert, and it showed. The Andrackan had been invited to come without military escort if they really wished for peace, the Askandar system was patrolled by forces and Elwar had taken measures necessary to stop any potential Andrackan betrayal. The meeting would occur in the main city near the ambassadorial districts and escorts were present to take the Andrackan there when they arrived in orbit, while the Andrackan would likely bring very powerful individuals there was always the risk of them causing damage through use of their powers too, it was a problem highlighted by other pact members but once again Elwar had assured contingencies were in place.
With a swift transfer from orbit to the districts the actual meeting place was a large spire, the room looking almost identical to the one where the pact had first been formed. Circular in shape with a large circular table in the centre, and an excellent view of Askandar from all directions. Elwar was already present, the holographic of the main core hovering over one of the seats.
The relatively small Cyon Diplomatic Sloop dropped out from FTL. It’s smooth silver hull devoid of any weapons. It slowly came to a stop and began broadcasting. “This is Anthenera Diplomatic Sloop Terak. We have brought the Anthenera representative and no military escort follow’s us as requested. We will wait for further instructions.” As they waited Cyon Marines were prepared and Tek prepared himself for the talks ahead.
The Terak followed the Constructs that had come up to meet them, following every command that was given to them. As the Terak descended through the clouds panels opened up and landing gear unfolded from within. With a silent hum and a quiet hiss the Terak finally landed on the ground. A hatch on the bottom opened and a ramp unfolded itself. Tek was first, his appearance hadn’t changed since the Press Conference. His void filled eyes looked around and took in the planet around him. Two Cyon Marines followed him down, their wide heads and multiple eyes scanning for any possible assassins.
A construct of unknown design walked up to meet them. He motioned for Tek to follow and stopped when the Marines followed. “No soldiers.” It said. Tek turned to the Marines and nodded. The two Cyons nodded in return and turned around to walk back to the ship. Tek followed the Construct the rest of the way. Once he reached the meeting room he bowed before the other delegates before them.
“Hello, I am Tek, right hand to Fel. I do have a message from my sister, she was a bit disappointed that she could not come as she was looking forward to meeting all of you.” Tek said with a warm smile.
Fresh off the negotiations between AURA and the Defenders of Voicon, Representative Solarin barely got too far before he was sent proverbial marching orders to attend another high value diplomatic meeting. It seems the Andracken wanted to address the member states of the Askandar pact. This was not an unexpected turn of events given the press conference that was seen on galactic news outlets not long before. As The representative’s vessel altered course to travel to the meeting, Rolarin familiarized himself with every known encounter with the Andracken, starting with the WRL files, the Dominion’s encounters and anything else he could find from a credible source on the galactic net. None of it painted a flattering picture of the species, but of course now they were trying to negotiate which was new. Hopefully these Andracken had learned some sort of lesson about angering your neighbors or this negotiation would be short and fruitless. Just a few hours later the Inoctyl arrived, the ship tended to cause a stir wherever it went because it defied all concepts of engineering standard. There was no discernable means of propulsion, no real discernable weapons ort sensor arrays and then entire thing as one onlooker described it, ‘positively schizophrenic’. The angular parts of the ship made it appear as thought he internal layout was so confused that one might have to go up a deck just to turn left and turn right just to go down. Of course, the vessel didn’t adhere to any known geometry or mathematics but none the less it was often the symbol that the Dominion had sent a high value diplomat to the given situation.
Since Solarin was already acquainted with the normal security measures of meeting with Elwar, since Consul Jahn had given Solarin a detailed brief on the formation of the Askandar pact it was no issue to transit to the surface without causing any trouble. Representative Solarin made his way to the meeting location politely greeting the construct that likely greeted him while also expressing a apology that Consul Jahn could not be present due to being reassigned to a major scientific discovery in the Qorochiroq nebula cluster.
Ever since the initial meeting of the pact, It had existed. It existed for the sake of existing, though that did not bother it whatsoever. A small light illuminated the room allocated to the Dirge within the Ambassadors district. It was followed by a wave of luminescent nodes lighting up the rather small room, as the Emissary received the message from Elwar. The room was alive no doubt, with the appearance of a living form of marble, the previous diplomat. As the dirge required no comforts or amenities, from the outset it could easily be mistaken as a broom closet. The Diplomat 'Cherry' became animated, uncharacteristically so, for a Dirge, showing its semblance of individuality. The wall receded slightly, and as Cherry left its allocated room, it was followed by two forms meant for protection, Tailored for this specific situation.
It arrived shortly after, its path guided by the various constructs tending to the area.
The situation with the Andraken was a serious one. Even with the combined forces of the pact behind her, the Vestahl Commonwealth was still the most vulnerable of the Pact nations. They were closest to the Andraken's sphere of influence, and if it came to war both the politicians and the generals felt that Vestahl would be the first nation to come under attack.
For the Generals and the Admirals that meant maintaining the same break-neck speed with which the Commonwealth was rapidly remilitarizing. More ships rolled out of the shipyards every day, more guns came off the assembly lines, and recruiters were working overtime to find bodies to fill out the ranks of the army and navy. Talks were already underway with the new protectorates about contributions toward the SRU, both in the form of men and material.
For the politicians, the game was a high stakes one. Everything was on the line, and if they couldn't prevent a war they had to at least stave one off until the Commonwealth was better prepared to fight one.
Anastasia Malashenko sat behind the placard for the Vestahl Commonwealth with a grave expression on her face. She shared none of the warmth the Andraken representative did and she did not return his smile, silently pushing a pair of glasses up her nose and jotting something down on the tablet in front of her.
"Representative Tek," Malashenko spoke, her voice devoid any warmth or friendliness. "I am Anastasia Malashenko, First Foreign Relations Officer of the Vestahl Commonwealth, and representative from the Commonwealth for the purposes of this meeting. As I'm sure you are aware the Askandar Pact was formed in part as a response to your people's continual aggressive and belligerent stances in foreign relations. Recently your Queen, Fel, held a press conference. After she was done threatening the members of the Pact she indicated a willingness to talk,"
Malashenko gestured broadly to the room and the assembled representatives of the Pact nations.
"We're prepared to listen," She said finally.
Tek took a seat and brought out a small crystal. He placed it on the table and looked up. “Do not worry it is only a recording device. But to the crux of why I am here.” Tek moved forward and placed his hands together. “As for my sister’s actions earlier. We Andracken are logical creatures, running on programs and algorithms. I am sorry that our nature insulted you, but it will be hard for us to understand your positions. And while myself and Fel do poses emotions, we rarely use them and are still relatively new to them.”
Tek brought out another crystal, this one much larger than the last. He tapped it and a holographic screen with what could be assumed to be the Andracken language was brought up. “These belligerent events you are referring to, are they the Davian War?” He asked looking back to the delegates in front of him.
"Must I outline it for you?" Malashenko said, suppressing a flash of annoyance from crossing her features. "Very well. Your people arrived in the Avarian Frontier and entered into a an alliance with the Divine Davian Empire, the Three Domains Alliance and the Dominion, calling itself the 'Western Regional League'. Shortly after the formation of the League your leaders at Zaingraf chose to violate the terms of the League's creation and attack the Davians, your former allies, and by extension the Dominion with whom you were also still allied at the time. This was followed by a declaration of war against both parties and your people's participation in the battle of Voi Con, where your commanders chose to destroy an entire planet as way of a show of force preceding a demand for surrender. In addition to this blatant disregard for the treaties and alliances your government had agreed to, you also threatened the neutral nation of the Hashorn Hegemony, demanding they give over technology to you or face annihilation. When they responded to these threats with force you launched an indiscriminate bombing campaign against their civilian population. The nations assembled here subsequently formed a mutual defense pact. While that pact was not against your nation specifically, it was prompted by your decidedly unpredictable policy changes. In response to the formation of the Askandar Pact your Queen, Fel, held a press conference where she in no uncertain terms threatened not only the current members of the Pact, but any future members as well with war and destruction."
She paused, letting her words sink in.
"Belligerent," She continued finally. "Is putting it mildly Representative,"
Representative Solarin took careful stock of the meeting and its participants. So far tempers seemed even and the points being made were to the point and without exaggeration. From a political perspective it would look far better for the Pact itself if it’s members-maintained control because it would counter the Andracken’s so-called logic approach to everything. Once Malashenko finished Solarin interjected in his usual controlled and polite vocal tones.
“I agree with the points made by the foreign relations officer, furthermore the reports sent in to high command Commodore Olouchi regarding the Zaingraf incident, and the data in the WRL archive confirms that the Andracken have acted in terrible faith. What the Foreign relations officer may not know, is that you sold out the Davians and the WRL for a piece of technology you can get for free in any modern library in the galaxy. That does not speak of trustworthiness at all, it indicates that you cannot be trusted if your loyalty is bought so cheaply than anyone can buy you. You’ve compiled quite a list of misdeeds to the point that you are even dragging AURA’s reputation through the mud. I have to ask, for a species that thinks it’s too advanced to honor diplomatic agreements, are you also so advanced that the concept of cause and effect as well as object permanence eludes you as well?”
The Autayan representative, an honestly bored-looking man who looked as if he would be happier sleeping, sat up straight before speaking.
"The Imperium has had no prior contact with the Andracken, or most of the Pact members before being invited to join for that matter, so we cannot offer any insight into these events of which the other representatives speak. But, I can put it simply why other nations seem to have little faith in your loyalties, in a fashion your supposed lack of emotions can understand." he stated, his voice disinterested and with a slight tinge of disdain.
"Your nation's flippant disregard for established policies and deals with other nations, obscenely easily provoked aggression and willingness to change allegiances at the drop of a hat makes your people, put bluntly, untrustworthy. How can you trust a nation to be your ally when they might shoot you in the back five seconds later?" he asked, the question an obvious rhetorical. He paused before finishing his statement.
"For a nation built on logic and sense, your lack of understanding why your actions draw such a negative response is astounding."
Elwar after listening to the other reps then decided to also add to the list.
"I talked to your representative Shal as you are well aware of. And spoke of stability in the frontier, and how this was my primary objective, I hoped to reach out to the Andrackan to talk about peaceful terms and the possibility of your purpose and mine being fulfilled without the need for our paths to cross. You assured me that your people would use peaceful measures in this region of the galaxy to further your goals and that you had no wish to be aggressive to the Pact, you even sought to help warn us about the situation at Zaingraf" Elwar said loudly, the AIs emotionless voice echoing somewhat around the chamber.
"However. You proceeded to aggresively threaten and postulate very publically about all those within the Pact including myself and nearly go back on the very things you assured me you would undertake. This is simply unacceptable. To add even further problems is the fact that others here only know now because I told them and the galaxy. My extensions had to cover the withdrawal of multiple nations from Zaingraf after a full blown dimensional incursion event was underway, I thought that this may be some kind of accident and it was, but after the data burst from the Singers who kindly gave me an overview it was also revealled that your own actions seemed to spark this event into escalation. You attacked and killed natives and in the process attracted those of the incursion who proceeded to then seemingly adapt into something much worse. All of us now of the region must be on guard and be prepared to deal with this threat due to such"
"Your words are worthless..... your promises...worthless..... there is little value in your continued.... speech.... what can... the Andracken offer... that is not... hollow, and empty promises.. filled with deceit. ........."
Cherry paused, it's darkened eyes scanning the room, taking in the approving stares of other pact members,
"It is this one's. .. most humble opinion. ... that those left.. in charge of the decisions..m of the Andracken. .. as a whole... lack in cognitive ability..... you have much.. to prove... to regain face. ... not only for those assembled. . Before you... but the galaxy.... at large "
“Our exit from the WRL could have been done much more smoothly. As it was we weren’t fond of the actions of the Davian Empire. As for the “By extension” we never declared war, nor intended to go to war with the Risallas Dominion.” Tek began, his calm demeanor never faltering.
“As for what my sister said, you are twisting her words. She stated that we would attack any who attacked us or our allies. To say we would attack those who join the Pact simply because they joined is incorrect.” Tek paused and looked to all of them before speaking again. “While my sister may be ignorant to our actions; I am, wiser, you could say. I see why you would be untrustworthy of us. I understand very well why you would be scared of us.” Tek turned to Elwar. “If you will allow us we will take full responsibility for our mistakes at Zaingraf and organize a Quarantine Zone. We caused this and I feel we should fix what we did.”
Yet again Askandar was the home to negotiations which concerned the stability of the region. Then again Elwar was pleased of such. This was his goal after all.
