In the dark reaches of space, a single Cyon Dregn class exploration ship appeared. It’s silver hull glinting in the nearby star’s light. A single small rocky planet orbited the star, no atmosphere was present, and it was more of a large moon than a planet. But the Cyon ship wasn’t here for the planet. Sensors on the Stella O Fortuna had detected an energy anomaly in this region of space. After it had stayed for quite some time the Cyon ship was dispatched. The ship began emitting a beacon of sorts, attempting to call any who were in the region to them. They waited until anyone appeared, and if none did then they would return.
The beacon was detected in a matter of minutes by an approaching pair of UWA frigates. The two were named Clara and Constant. Their silver and ink black hulls sheltered them as they sailed through the emptiness. The Captain leading both frigates, whose name was Joyse, noted the beacon on her console. She rose from her seat and told her crew "Make for the beacon. I want us to approach slowly and keep all weapons and shields up. We don't want any screw-ups."
So her frigate, the Clara, went first. The Constant followed, sailing above the Clara.
The sensors on the Cyon ship alerted them to the presence of the two incoming ships. “Show unknown ships on forward view screen.” The Captain ordered. A holographic image of the two UWA ships appeared.
“Scans show shields raised and possible weapons armed.” The Security Chief said. “The ships are of unknown origin. They are roughly the size of our ship sir.” The Captain nodded and watched as the ships drew closer.
“Turn off the beacon. I will attempt to contact them.” The Captain commanded. The beacon was turned off, showing the Cyons acknowledged their presence.
“This is Captain Drelin of the Cyon Exploration vessel A225. Do not be alarmed by my voice, we mean you no harm.” Captain Drelin said telepathically, his voice targeting those on the bridges of the UWA ships.
The ones on the bridges were a little surprised. Not the Syrans and the Alonsenai though. They were more used to the telepathy than their human counterparts. For now, this was no matter. Captain Joyse responded with her voice
"Captain Joyse of the frigates Clara and Constant. I am leading an exploration of this sector. I accept your intentions. May we communicate in person?"
“This can be arranged, I will be leaving shortly.” Captain Drelin responded. He moved off the bridge and down to the hanger bay, along the way a Diplomat Cyon and two Cyon Marines joined him. The group of four boarded a shuttle and prepared to take off. The side of the Cyon ship which appeared seamless opened up to reveal the hanger. The shuttle took off and flew towards the UWA ship. Once it reached a close distance Captain Drelin asked for clearance to land.
The clearance was given, the bays of the Clara opening for them. For now, Captain Joyse was already making her way down from her bridge to see to her guests, hoping they didn't mind that they entered her ship rather than she entering their ship.
The shuttle slowly entered the hangar bay of the Clara. Panels on the shuttle moved back and the silent hiss of the pneumonic pistons followed the landing gear unfolding. With a small clunk, the shuttle finally landed in the hanger. A side panel on the shuttle pushed out and then folded down to form a stair step.
Captain Drelin was first, his metal feet clunked on the deck and he turned to face his fellow Captain. The single blue eye in the center of his geometric head analyzed the woman before him. His other eyes looked around, taking in the scene around him. His body was humanoid, but there was no flesh only machine. Lights danced across his body and a pair of sickle-like horns floated above him.
The next to come down was the diplomat. She was far more “Organic” than Drelin, but it still looked as if her body was constructed of metal. Her face looked human, but the pale “skin” and glowing green eyes said otherwise. Her body suit was blue with green iridescent accents that shone if the light hit it just right. Blue crystals covered her back and seemed to pulse slowly.
The last two were the Cyon Marines. Their dark grey armor was almost black and drastically emphasized the smooth lines of the first two. They were the furthest from looking human compared even to Captain Drelin. Their wide head was set with five orange and two green eyes. A line down their arms seemed to show they could spill apart, giving them four rather than two. The only visible weapons they had were the rifles that were connected to their back.
“I am Captain Drelin, this here is Frea, a Diplomat. The two you see behind us are guards, nothing more.” Drelin said telepathically. “Shall we go to another room more suited for talks?” He asked. His arm outstretched and motioned to the hanger bay.
"Yes."
Joyse was happy to see another kind of soul. She was attracted to non-human persons and was more willing to work with them. Anyone could see it on her face and how she showed herself. She smiled at them as she stepped to the side and showed them the way.
Meanwhile, the troops who were already waiting along with her were trying to be careful. While they do were selected by Joyse because they also were good with aliens, they kept their hands ready for a fight, their weapons close.
The group of four Cyons followed Joyse through the ship, the Marines analyzed anything for possible threats. As the four walked their metal feet created rhythmic clacks with each step. The Cyon Marines noticed the tensing of the UWA soldiers that guarded them. Frea was notified telepathically and she began to emit a psychic pulse to calm the people around them. They did not want a fight to break out with a possible ally.
They calmed down. However, the naval infantry still kept their guards up. As for Joyse, she said "If there is anything you need, I may be able to provide. I hope talks with you will go smoothly."
”You have my thanks, captain. We will let you know if we need anything.” Drelin responded.
The captain nodded. As they went on, they entered a large meeting room with chairs surrounding a diamond table. The ceiling was decorated with blue lights and human art as the walls were simple and the floor as well. In the middle of the table was a small flag of the UWA. She said to all of them "Please take a seat, my guests."
Captian Drelin and Frea sat down across from Joyse. The two Marines stood behind them, flanking their left and right sides. Their postures were straight and showed the lack of a biological body.
“Shall we begin?” Drelin asked. A hand waving to the table.
"Sure." Said the Captain, sitting down along with her closest officers as the Captain opened up the talks "So, to begin, I'd like to assume that non-aggression is in place on your and our side so that our talks may be with peace and not without conflict, is that understood?"
”It is. A non-aggression is in place between our two nations.” Drelin responded.
"Then what do you wish from us? Seeing that relations are now in order, with no aggression on my part or yours."
”We are apart of a greater group, the Anthenera, our goal is to collect and catalog technology. Realistically we would expect an exchange of certain technologies. We can provide several in return.” This time it was the Diplomat Cyon Frea that spoke, her voice calm and soothing.
"I see. We have technology but we are far more concerned with establishing relations and hoping that we may have allies. We may provide you technology if you show promise as friends." Said the Captain, being the only one to speak so far.
“Of course, technology can come after we’ve formed relations.” Frea said with a light tone.
"Very well. Any other things you may propose? I hope we are in good faith to each other. Perhaps you would like something else?”
“I propose a mutual defense pact, one where either of us will come into the defense of the other should they be attacked,” Free said lightly. She reached out her hand and a hologram appeared showing the defense pact and all its details.
The woman nodded and said, "Very well." She reached out to the other and said "I accept this pact. I will sign this on behalf of my faction."
But before she continued, she paused and then asked her
"I keep hearing about the war that is eating this galaxy. May I ask about it if you are involved in it?"
“The Anthenera isn’t involved in the war currently known as the Second Ancerious War. When we arrived in this galaxy the war was already underway.” Frea replied knowingly.
"I see. I am interested in it. After all, we are in this frontier. We might be in danger from it. I hope our partnership will grant us safety and security. On the other hand, is there anything else?"
“Yes, while we do not expect you to get involved in the conflict there is a war between those of AURA, Anthenera, and the Devine Davian Empire.” Frea’s voice turned serious. “I suggest you not get involved with them for your sake. The Davians are notorious for ‘friendly-fire’ as you might call it.”
The Admiral was silent for a while. She spoke up "I see. I will be sure to keep that in mind and I will inform my superiors about that."
She then added, "Tell me about AURA please."
“I must apologize, but we have little information on AURA beyond those in the group. They are the Vaanitas Supremacy, Cricaen Kingdom, and the Silquami Triumvirate. While we are fighting alongside them it is only for the time being. Once the war is over the Anthenera will break ties with AURA.” Frea said matter-of-factly
"Do you not suppose that may bring trouble upon the heads of your people if you break ties with them so suddenly after the war?"
“It will not. Our agreement with them ends once the Davians in the Ancerious Galaxy are destroyed or driven out.” Frea said. “As for the Queen, she could care less."
"Very well." She then relaxed, saying "That is interesting. We are a democratic faction for the matter. I hope though our partnership will not so easily be cut. For this matter, I'd like to ask if we can arrange a meeting between the leaders of our own factions?"
Frea sat silently for a second, no less and no more. “This is possible. But it will have to wait as she has business with another group soon. To cancel it would damage our image.”
"Of course. We do not wish for you to cancel that. But at any time, we wish for a meeting. On the other hand, perhaps we can talk about what to do concerning the Davians."
“Hmmm. I would suggest avoiding contact as much as possible. They might try to convince you to join them.” Concern flashed over Frea’s face. “To join them would be to put a metaphorical and real target on your back.”
"We wouldn't join them. However, I received news from one of our ships and Admirals....that the Davians have boarded them. It just came to us a while ago."
“The Davians have boarded your ships!?!” Frea, jumped up from her chair and the since motionless Captain Drelin seemed to recoil and his eyes flickered.
Some of the UWA officers and soldiers present also stood, surprised but the Admiral raised a hand and nobody dared to raise a weapon or any threat. The Admiral then said "Some. Not all. And we are currently getting information from one of our Admirals...who is now speaking to them."
“This…. this is outrageous!” Frea’s face once calm and caring was turned to one of rage. The table groaned as her hand began crushing the metal. She let go and stood straight to compose herself. The table now had bent metal in the rough shape of her hand. “I am truly sorry about the table. I have composed myself.” She said as she calmly sat back down in her seat.
The Admiral sighed at that and then told the rest of her officers and soldiers to leave. They did so and when she was alone with the woman, she said to her
"No worry. This table is the least of things I adore. Anyway, if this means an incredible threat to the safety and security of our own faction, we will be sure to quietly cut ties with the Davians. We only wish though this won't bring trouble on our heads. I will ask my Admiral also to see to obtaining the location of the Davians so we may pass it on to you."
“Thank you, if need be we can send a group of ships there along with a medical ship.” Free said, her voice now calm and collected like before.
"Wait. Why a medical ship?" She asked, cocking her head to the right about that.
“For any injured of course. My nation, the Cyons, have some of the best doctors. Also, with the help of the Ylinac, another group in the Anthenera, any major tissue damage can be repaired quite easily.” She added a small smile to ease Joyse
"Very well. That can be done. But for now, let's concentrate on this matter. I am sure my partner there can handle herself."
She then placed her hands on the table and said silently "There is one thing I request from your faction if I may..."
"That is...we need additional resources and assistance in making ships."
“In what capacity?” Frea asked.
"That would mean I need to tell you about my factions troubles. You see, we are at war with rebels on Satembi and we have lost some of our ships to them in combat or when they were captured. We need to replace them."
“Hmm, while I am unsure of any replacement vessels we might be willing to lend a hand in our ships and giving your people technology.” Frea responded, uncertainty filling her voice.
"Okay." She said justly. She sighed as she stood up and reached out to Frea, saying "Very well. Is this all or perhaps there is more to your mind for us to discuss?"
“At the moment, no, there is not.” Frea said as she too stood up.
"Then we are done. For now. Allow me to say that this may lead us to more friendly talks. Good to have you with us, Miss Frea."
“And you as well Miss Joyse.” Frea responded a comforting smile graced her face.
“It has been a pleasure.” Captain Drelin stood and extended a metallic hand to shake.
Joyse smiled likewise. She shook the Captains hand and then offered to shake the hand of Frea. She added
"Welcome to the United Worlds."
Frea returned the gesture. “Likewise.”
Before Joyse could speak, even more, she was interrupted by a transmission just for her. But her allies could hear it. The transmission was as follows, as it was made over the public announcement system of her own ship
"Admiral Joyse, this is UWA High Command. You have been ordered to proceed to the Satembi system. We are in need of your fleets assistance. Proceed without delay."
The Admiral sighed at the end of the transmission and told her guests "I am sorry you cannot stay for much longer. I have an assignment. I will see you when I can if I am allowed to."
Frea bowed and Drelin did so as well. “We shall return to our ship. If you need us simply call and we shall arrive."
"Thank you. I appreciate that. May you go safely." She then waved them farewell and returned to her bridge, to command her fleet yet again.
For one more assignment....
