The Gorganos system had come to be the beating heart of Ancerious activities of the Three Domains Alliance, everyday hundreds of ships passed through the system from mighty military warships to humble civilian passenger ships. The system itself was impossible to hide now from even the most basic of sensor systems so instead of trying to hide it the Alliance embraced it instead making the coordinates of the system public for anyone who had access to Ancnet. At the moment the majority of traffic was cargo ships shipping in millions of tons of construction equipment and materials for the ever expanding colonies present in Ancerious, even on Gorganos Prime a second city had begun to be constructed as to alleviate the environmental and logistical impact on the primary city; New Gatlinburg. Which had seen the full transfer of the Department of Ancerious Affairs to a brand new complex in the city’s centre, it would serve as the planetary and regional authority of all Alliance assets in Ancerious. It was here in the offices that sub-director Alexis chambers laboured away at her usual tasks the tedious and monotonous amounts of paper work that had to be done, it was moments like these she was grateful for the digitalisation of the entire process and how she felt sorry for anyone who had to use the ancient method of pen and paper. The city itself was the usual hustle and bustle one might expect with cars hurriedly zooming past the tall dark coloured skyscrapers at different altitudes. Overall nothing seemed out of place and everything was running as per usual.
Working in the UWA United Fleets was one thing; Working with the Unionist Guard was another.
For Safiya Walker, it was just another part of her life. While technically a Captain in the United Fleets, she was a Colonel in the Unionist Guard. Thanks to her participation in the Cross Branch Officers Program, she earned and kept those two ranks.
For now, the 76 year old Syran kept to herself in the command bridge as her carrier, the Yasmeen, and several escorts and corvettes came with her, bringing with them a convoy of civilian ships filled with merchants and their goods as well as representatives of the UWA, travelled through space as fast as they could to avoid wasting time.
They were lucky to find the coordinates of the system due to the Ancnet. The United Worlds of Alondria was not isolationist after all. But in their effort to know more about the frontier and to ensure that they were surrounded by friendly if not democratic factions, they sent out their United Fleets. And with them, the Unionist Guards.
Safiya got the attention of her XO.
"Captain Safiya, we have arrived at the Gorganos system. We are approaching the territory of the Three Domains Alliance. Your orders, Ma'am?"
The Syran just said quickly
"Keep all weapons systems down but raise our defenses and be sure to keep all of our ships informed and in contact. XO, I want you to initiate communications with the TDA on an open channel immediately. Prepare a ship for me."
"Aye, aye, Captain. All weapons systems temporarily deactivating and defenses are online. All ships getting signal to remain in contact." Said some of the officers manning the consoles while the XO did as asked while Safiya waited for everything to be done.
The sudden appearance of the small fleet of ships did not go unnoticed, MPSDA suites lit up system wide with their arrival. Fleet Admiral Mark Bishop who was responsible for the Gorganos systems security was quick to react, sending a small sortie of two frigates and a destroyer was sent to intercept.
“Unidentified ships hold your current course and state your intentions. Failure to comply will result in hostile action being taken.” Fleet admiral Mark Bishop announced sternly over communications to the ships.
Down on the surface Alexis was broken free of her monotonous day when she was told of the arrival of the unknown ships. She was quick to get everything organized, a conference room was readied, landing pads were cleared and all the regular ceremonies were prepared. It was just up to Bishop to clear them for landing on the surface now.
They were not surprised when the world sent out frigates and a destroyer to intercept them. Quickly, the ships under her command were given the order
"All hands, man your battle stations! Make sure all weapons are ready to reactivate but not yet! XO! Get me communications with the interceptors now!"
In minutes, the order was taken. All hands were at their battle ready stations while the XO had established contact, on an universal channel as Safiya spoke in English
"This is the United Worlds of Alondra. I am in command of this fleet. I am escorting several civilian merchants and travellers. I am Captain Safiya of the United Fleets, Colonel in the Unionist Guard. I will comply. DO not take hostile action."
She then gestured to her XO, whispering "Get that ship ready."
“We hear you loud and clear captain, didn’t mean to come off too hostile just following procedure I’m sure you’re aware of that yourself.” Bishop breathed a sigh of relief that these United Worlds of Alondra people were here peacefully.
“You’re cleared to proceed Captain, spaceports are available for your ships to dock in if needed and we have a diplomat waiting on the planet’s surface. I’ll send you the coordinates now, it’ll only be a shuttle sized ship you can send down there not a lot of room down in the city.” Bishop said more friendly and politely now.
Down in the government complex Alexis waited patiently in the foyer to the landing pads for their new guests to land, these types of meetings aren’t what they were made out to be. It was just more of the same as back home imperialist there, royal such and such over the other side. She wondered when the director would give up on the folly of trying to befriend everyone and let the Alliance fulfill its original mandate. But Alas she for now she would play nice and do her job.
In time, a shuttle sized ship came out of the ships that came into the territory of the TDA. On board was the Captain and her XO and her own guards. She hoped she didn't bring too much firepower into the city as they started to make their way into the world.
As they did, the rest of the fleet waited just outside of the space of the world, their ships now simply hovering as the warships went into formation to protect the civilian ships from any other threats or whatever.
Alexis watched as the new comers ship touched down, as soon as they did and the dust cleared she walked out greet them at the bottom of the ramp where a honour guard unit marched out took formation on one side as was the tradition for foreign dignitaries.
The shuttle doors then opened, the representatives coming out. But they were all military. They respected the tradition, marching out one by one or by pair as the Captain of the fleet met Alexis and gave a salute sharply before putting her hand down and saying loudly as UWA tradition dictated
"Ma'am! Captain Safiya Walker! Captain of this fleet! United Worlds of Alondra United Fleets and Unionist Guard!"
She then stepped back three steps and said, arm stretched out towards her companions
"My companions, Ma'am. Pleased to be here!"
Alexis extended her hand to Captain Walker in a friendly gesture.
“Welcome to New Gatlinburg, I’m Alexis Chambers Sub-Director of The Three Domains Alliance Ancerious Department.” She said politely with a sharp tone.
She took her hand and shook it before letting go and telling her in a soft tone politely
"Thank you. It is good to meet you. I hope I did not come at a very bad time."
“Not at all, please if you would follow me inside.” Alexis said as she gestured towards the door.
Alexis led the UWA representatives through the New Gatlinburg Government complex, the hallways were littered with patriotic decorations and portraits of Alliance heroes, generals, admirals and presidents. When they got to the conference room the most prominent feature was the three large portraits on the back wall of the three founding members of the Three Domains Alliance. Alexis quickly got UWA representatives sat down.
“So before we get into the nitty gritty of diplomatic talks let’s get to understand each other’s nation better. Allow me to start.” Alexis said before activating a holographic display in the middle of the room.
“The Three Domains Alliance is a sovereign stratified democratic state built on the principles of liberty, justice and nationalism. Our founders whom you see behind me fought a fruitless war against each other for the gains of the imperialistic overlords over three different interstellar domains. Long story short Mark Griswald the first president who takes up the central portrait behind instigated a rebellion in all three of the domains forces and captured and executed the lords and their lackeys with this being the result.”
Alexis started a video feed depicting the foundation of the Alliance, in the fore ground of the film were the signatories of the alliance putting their signature on the Articles of Alliance while in the back ground were the limp dead bodies of the war criminals that had been hung. Each person there signed their name and when it was done they applauded and celebrated their new found freedoms.
“And from there the rest is history, rapid rebuilding and expansion over the next two centuries. A few wars of course and now we sit in a deadlock with our most hated enemy who wants to see our way of life removed from the galaxy.” Alexis finished off her presentation by showing off a few graphs of the growth of the Alliance over that time period before deactivating the hologram.
“So there’s our history and culture laid out before may I ask that you share the same such information?” she curiously
Safiya Walker nodded before she took out a small portable computer from her XO and opened it up, turning it on just as a video feed appeared before all those present. She narrated as the video silently portrayed human slaves on the fertile planet of Alondra being escorted by their alien guards out of massive ships.
"The United Worlds of Alondra started out not as an union but as one planet, one world. Humans were once slaves and the two alien races that dominated the planet, the Alonsenai and the Syrans, co-existed with each other. Things went like this until....."
Thrilling music started to play as the footage switched to two alien nobles kissing each other. After that, the two were seen declaring war on their own kind, leading freed human slaves and other alien nobles and soldiers who saw justice in their cause.
The rest was told by Safiya as the video went on
"We then united. It was a violent way to do so. But we had no other choice. Soon, we took to the stars, expanding to Veneshia and Satembi."
She then concluded
"We are a democratic faction. We are founded on freedom, unity and aggression. To strike first to protect ourselves. We are not always like this. But we were slaves. We were oppressed. Now it is our time to shine."
Alexis was pleasantly surprised to see that the UWA was in fact a democratic much like the Alliance. It was a breath of fresh air in a new galaxy filled with empire this and empire of that in just about every direction one could look.
“Well colour me impressed, you’re only the second democratic state we’ve run into out here. Just a quick heads up though, just about everyone that we’ve met or encountered or looked into is some type of authoritarian state. Democracy is rare in these parts suffice to say.” Alexis said to Safiya in a low gentle voice.
“Now onto the nitty gritty, we’re willing to offer right off the bat a Non-Aggression Pact with the UWA as a basis of our diplomatic relationship. I trust your able to agree to such a deal?”
"I am able to agree and I will on behalf of my faction. I trust you will keep this between us as strongly as we have started. I don't want to be on the receiving end of a gun." She smiled and then offered her hand "Shake on it first?"
“Of course and we’ll have it writing as well.” Alexis said giving a strong handshake to Safiya
She then bought up the standard NAP paper work on the tables’ computer before sliding over it over to Safiya to look over sign.
“just sign at the bottom there when you’re ready.”
She nodded and signed it before she slid it over to her back and then said "Anything else?
“There’s nothing else on our part that needs to be done if you having nothing then we can call this meeting a success and wrap it up.” Alexis said happily
“If you can give a full run down of the situation we may be able to help but we maintain strict control on our military and only go to fight for causes that are worth dying for.” Alexis said sceptically
"We have a separatist movement on Satembi. We need help in making it stop more quickly. We don't want to waste our time with it but we also don't want to destroy the planet. We could use some help in bringing them to negotiations."
“If it’s just coming to a meeting to mediate the situation between you and your separatists we’d be glad to help keep the peace.” Alexis smiled when she finished speaking
"The last time they and we agreed to a meeting though, they had most of those who attended on our behalf killed with a bomb at one of our space ports." She said without a smile or any joke
“Well that can be easily avoided by having the meeting take place somewhere neutral to both parties and we’ll keep it under heavy guard.”
She nodded and smiled. "Thank you. I'll arrange a meeting between my superiors and yours if that is okay?"
"Yes. That will be all. I'd like to stay for a while though. See some more of your place. If this is fine, I'd like to ask if I can spend a few nights before I return. I was given liberty to take as much time as I could"
The representative then nodded and bowed before going on her way smiling to know that it has been successful.
