Constantine System: Union space
It had been sometime since he had been here.
He had almost forgotten what the galaxy looked and felt like outside of the raging abyss that was the Golden Expanse. Par’Lan sighed for a moment, before realising that he did indeed have a guest. He wasn’t used to suddenly having company.
“I am sorry, even in the presence of another I retreat into myself and the A’Zores herself it is a bad habit I have taken away from the battles in the Expanse” The other man merely nodded in understanding, the two of them seemed to float senselessly in space stars and nebula surrounding them and caressing them in the warm glow of primordial creation.
“You do not need to apologise, you know I am here to learn about the events there and also of your current events in the galaxy proper. The events at Kaikoma and Voicon were very…” The man struggled to find a word before Par’Lan replied.
“Vocal? Yes Hargun I know what you mean but then flying around in an ancient war vessel with the power to end empires is not exactly what you would call ‘Lying low’ as your people put it.” He chucked for a moment “As you know there is a large alliance currently fighting in the Golden Expanse and as you already have discovered the Draken continually try to punch a stable hole through using the torn space-time in that region, and have gotten some small vanguard forces through into the galaxy at large. I am out here because Sotek has returned to continue the fight in the Expanse after he delivered information to you and I am here to try clear away those vanguard forces that I can” Par’Lan explained, his form was covered in white smooth robes adorned with Nakai script and his flowing white long hair seemed to give him a halo of tendrils as they floated. Hargun himself was dressed in his typical Admirals uniform, he didn’t look all that comfortable in the A’Zores.
“I know for a fact that the Commander known as Toxin is operating close with Capitols Empress, apart from that I did not know of any other vanguard forces… It does however explain some sightings near the expanse, but tell me who makes up this alliance? Who can even dare operate in the expanse apart from yourself?” Hargun was genuinely interested, those who could fight the Draken on their own terms would be powerful assets in the days ahead.
“I am well aware of Toxin, but Sotek has that angle covered, I would rather not go about blowing entire nations off the face of the galaxy if I can possibly help it. They may be your sworn enemy but you will need them in the times to come Hargun” Par’Lan turned to face one of the nebulae “The alliance is made up of myself, what Nakai assets I have managed to scavenge from the remains in the expanse, the Sicarii, Sotek as you know, Remnants of the Flux… Yes I know I was surprised too, along with some Timecasters. It is a rather fractured alliance but we share a common enemy and that’s all that matters. I can tell you now the vanguard forces have scattered themselves some of my operations have been to destroy them where they are sighted some operations have been to destroy any known caches of ancient technology that they may use against us or that lesser races may accidentally uncover”
“You mean like Voicon?” Hargun replied. Par’Lan nodded.
“The prospect of the Davians or any of the other nations using such weapons would end entire sectors I would not take that chance” Par’Lan turned back to Hargun his expression stern.
“Surely we could use them against the Draken?” Hargun asked confused slightly.
“And what guarantee do I have you would not unleash them on your enemies in general? Your races are fickle and such power is not easily controlled if you could control it at all, such ancient horrors are best left untouched even if we have to destroy them. And before you ask Kaikoma was merely a helping hand, I detected huge energy signatures and decided to help innocents nothing more” Hargun seemed to acknowledge this.
“I see that is a fair point. But what about Alpha Ceti? Is our agreement still in place?” Hargun inquired, when the USM and Union had discovered the Nakai ruins there Par’Lan had agreed to let them mine its secrets so long as they did not do anything foolish or share what they found.
“As long as you keep the world out of APP hands fully I will honour it, but if the APP take what is known there I will eradicate the entire system regardless of how many of your allied forces are still present” Par’Lan clearly was not messing around.
“Understood I will keep that in mind. So what of you now? What will you do?”
Par’Lan seemed to stare into space again at that question, the prospect of going back to the war in the expanse troubled him but it was his duty.
“I will continue to mop up anything I deem dangerous here, ancient caches and vanguard forces alike before returning to the expanse and continuing the war there”
“Do you think it will ever end?” Hargun asked quietly, the tense conversation seeming to ebb. Par’Lan merely smiled.
“Everything ends in time as much as my race, would hate, and still does to admit it. Perhaps it may take some time but we will not stop until it is over you have my word on that. However I do advise to end the war sooner rather than later, you will need a united galaxy if they do break through but you already know that” Par’Lan gestured with a hand and the glittering scope of space disappeared into blinding white light. Both Par’Lan and Hargun dropping to the floor, Hargun landing not so gracefully with a grunt. The stark interior of the Nakai vessel causing the Union admiral to squint.
“I have to go, you have my report as always Admiral I hope we will speak again under a better light”
Before Hargun could say farewell he was teleported across to the bridge of the Wyvern class orbital which hung in the stationary orbit of the twin black holes of the Constantine system. The bridge crew were somewhat surprised. Hargun gathered his wits for a moment before seeing the A’Zores disappear in a flash of light just outside the orbital.
“Are you… alright sir?” One of the crewman asked. Hargun shook himself and straightened his uniform before nodding.
“Yes I am ready my vessel at once I am needed in the western reaches for immediate diplomacy. Also someone get me some bloody coffee…”
