Amber had been sent on a exploring mission, a boring thing in her opinion. She’d rather have been back on the massive space station than here. But then again, the planet down bellow looked inviting and amazing.
“Enter a standard orbit and begin scanning.” She ordered.
Warning systems started blaring, previously cloaked defence platforms all over the system came online and began aiming weapons and a phalanx of 13 ships decloaked and began targeting the intruders.
On the planet below the tranquillity and peace was gone, the same alarms blaring and echoing across the beach. People began running to battlestations, anti orbital guns on the other islands came online and AA guns previously covered were manned. It was all very professional except for everyone manning these positions was in swimwear.
Darkstrider came wandering outside in his shorts and hawaiian shirt as people ran to battle stations, a cocktail in his hand. He lifted his sun glasses and looked at his datapad displaying preliminary warnings. "Can't a man get some peace and quiet?" he sighed and headed towards the command centre in the bowels of the island.
Alarms blared across the bridge of the Escort. Amber shot up from her chair and looked around. “What the absolute FUCK is going on!?” Amber screamed. Commons scurried around and the bridge and the Commander turned to Amber.
“Ma’am we have several stations, ships, and defense cannons aiming at our ship. They appeared to have been hidden with a form of stealth.” The Commander’s voice spoke in her mind.
“There was supposed to be no one here!” Amber ran up to the holographic screens showing the ships and platforms. “Well, hail them, we can’t fight that many with only one ship.”
Darkstrider arrived in a very casually dressed command centre, everyone still in beach wear. "Report!" he asked, still sipping his cocktail.
"One ship, crystalline in nature." Kali reported. Was that Kali? Things were confusing these days.
"Crystalline?" he asked his interest raised. "Open a video channel, broadcast on all frequencies to the local area." he spoke and the link was established, his hawaiian shirt making him seem very professional.
"This is Ellio Darkstrider, you've stumbled across a rather important facility. As you can see we have you outgunned, so I suggest you identify yourself and state your purpose." he spoke coolly but with authority
“This is Amber of the Ancient One Hegemony. We were sent out on an exploration mission of this grid.” Amber replied. She wondered why they were all wearing swim clothes. “Now if you could kindly turn your fucking weapons off, that’d be great.”
"I have never heard of you, or the Ancient one Hegemony" he said smoothly, sipping at his cocktail. "But you havent started shooting and you arent registering as APP, so you can't be that bad." he shrugged.
"Barbossa! Stand the fleet down. You're stood on your feet? No you dumb fuck the FLEET! FLEET! Stand the FLEET down!" he shouted and the ships stopped targeting and backed off, the stations powering down but keeping aimed.
“Thank you Ellio Darkstrider, now would you mind who you represent?” Amber asked. The Commons began to calm down, but they were still cautious as the stations hadn’t stopped targeting the Escort.
"Now isn't that the question." Darkstrider chuckled and went to sip but the glass was empty. He let out a weary sigh. "Let me ping you some coordinates to land, I hate talking like this." he spoke and coordinates on an island were transmitted before the comms ended.
They got the coordinates and Amber boarded a shuttlecraft and descended to the surface.
Darkstrider was waiting on the beach in his Hawaiian shirt and swim shorts, a new cocktail in his hand as the shuttle came in towards the coordinate.
The approach was beautiful, descending through the atmosphere it was clear that the planet was mostly ocean sparkling blue ocean with a few island chains, one of which being where the coordinates lay. The island in question had soft white sand beaches that stood in contrast against the near black rocks that made up the structure of the island. Most of it beyond the beach was lush green jungle though part way up the cliffs was a huge villa that was built into the rocks.
The shuttle moved down and hovered above the sand before four crystalline ‘legs’ folded out and the shuttle landed without a sound. The front of the shuttle shimmered before cracking open and stairs began to form. Once they did Amber walked down the steps and two Ancient One Commons walked down after her. She looked around at the beach around her and breathed in a lung full of air. “That is amazing, all the Ancient Ones pump through the ships is stale and cold. This is warm and smells amazing!” She twirled around, her black dress flowing out as she span around.
He took a moment to look at his new guests, a girl and two crystalline soldier looking things. An interesting mix. "Welcome to Dalys. I'm...Ellio Darkstrider." he spoke with a slight bow, leaving out the captain part as it was more a title than a rank these days.
Amber stopped with her back turned to Ellio, slowly she turned to him and gave a small smile.
He smiled back. “Like I said, welcome to Dalys, my base of operations. Formerly secret base of operations until you arrived.” He chuckled. “So you’re from the Ancient Ones Hegemony. I have to admit I haven’t heard of you, and I can only assume from your actions thus far you have no idea who I am either.” He spoke in a straightforward way. “But where are my manners, would you like a drink or something to eat?” he asked, directing the question towards Amber rather than the crystals.
“Me?” Amber asked placing a hand on her chest, a small airy chuckle escaped her lips . “Give me the hardest liquor you’ve got!” Amber pointed a finger to Ellio.
His face broke into a grin. "You're my new favourite visitor" he chuckled, though she was technically the only visitor. "Right this way, the bar is well stocked" he chuckled, strolling up the beach towards a hawaiian style cabana on the sand.
Amber said she could be impressed with the amount of liquor she saw. Her smile began to grow.
"The hard stuff for the lady" Darkstrider spoke as he strolled up and poured himself a rum. The bartender nodded and reached under the desk for a rather dark alcohol and poured a double, sliding it across the bar to her.
Amber took the glass and downed it in one go. The alcohol stung a bit and made her feel good. “WHOOOO HOOO! Give me another!” Amber yelled.
He chuckled at her enthusiasm. This was his kind of politics. He gave the bartender a nod and the man poured another glass, this time twice the amount.
"Honestly I have no idea, it was a gift from...someone" he said, wracking his brains but coming up blank. "Twice the strength of most other spirits I've come across." he laughed, sticking to the rum himself as the bartender just put the bottle on the counter for her.
"Honestly I have no idea, it was a gift from...someone" he said, wracking his brains but coming up blank. "Twice the strength of most other spirits I've come across." he laughed, sticking to the rum himself as the bartender just put the bottle on the counter for her.
Amber took the bottle and began to drink. She placed the bottle down and gave a sigh of relief. “Those stupid Ancient Ones don’t give me alcohol so this is a blessing.” Amber said pointing back to the two giants behind her.
Ellio glanced at them. "So if they're the Ancient Ones, what does that make you?" he asked as he sipped his drink.
Amber took another swig from the bottle and placed it down on the table. “That makes me a human they picked up and tested on.”
"That doesn't sound entirely ethical." he frowned slightly, looking at the thus far silent Ancient Ones.
“Eh, it was fun. I had just finished my revenge when they pick me up and begin augmenting my body with enhanced regenerative abilities and some more tech shit that increases my life span.” Amber said before taking another swig from the bottle.
That entire sentence was cause for a half dozen questions. "Enhanced regenerative abilities and increased lifespan?" he asked, John having told him to care about science more.
“Yeah, watch this.” Amber downed the rest of the bottle then smashed the it on the counter. She then left the bar and stood in the open. Amber smiled and took the broken bottle and shoved it into her neck. Blood sprayed from the wound and some came pouring out of the bottle mouth. Amber’s smile stuck as she fell to the ground and continued to bleed out.
"Bloody hell!" the bartender shouted. Darkstrider watched in surprised horror for a moment. "I guess this is the enhanced regeneration demonstration. At least I hope it is." he spoke before going over, narrowly avoiding a spurt of blood and removing the bottle before placing his hands over the wound in an attempt to stop the bleeding.
As Darkstrider attempted to close the wound a hand came up and grabbed his hand and pulled it off. Amber began to chuckle as the wound began to close up. She began to stand up but fell to the sand again. Amber laughed then once the wound closed she attempted to get back up. She was successful and she put her hands on her hips in triumph.
He wiped the blood off on his shorts. "That was more rapid than I had expected. I don't think i've fought anything that regenerates that quickly either." he mused and nodded his approval
“Why thank you!” Amber cheered, “Though I’ve survived much, much worse.” Amber wiped some of the sand off her dress and twirled once again to make sure.
"And I thought I was durable" he chuckled, taken aback by her enthusiasm.
“Well when you survive an artillery barrage you can come calling.” Amber coed. She walked past Darkstrider and ran a hand along his arm.
He paused to consider what he had survived, and wondered if she meant on him specifically or just been in one, before shrugging slightly. As she did so she smeared some of her blood that had been there up his arm and over the slight bump that ran up a portion of his forearm
“Oh I’m so sorry for the blood.” Amber said, though her voice didn’t sound sorry in the slightest.
"Wouldn't be much of a soldier if I let blood get to me." Darkstrider chuckled at the odd guest
“No you wouldn’t.” Amber chuckled. She looked around and laughed to her self. “This doesn’t look much like a secret base if you ask me.”
"The trick to a secret base is keeping it secret." he laughed. "That's just the villa, and club, and various other things." he spoke.
“I see, that does seem like a good plan.” Amber agreed.
"So Miss Amber, you came across us while exploring?" he asked her as they stood on the beach.
“That is correct, one of the most boring thing those bozos make me do.” Amber pointed to the two Commons that still stood near the bar.
"Exploration was never particularly interesting to me either" Ellio chuckled and looked at them. "Unusual aren't they."
“They are. From what they’ve told me they are race almost as old as the universe itself. They go around exploring and collecting information on technology, civilizations, and the that.” Amber scoffed.
"John would love them" he laughed. "He loves that kind of stuff, not my cup of tea."
“Same here, I’d rather be fighting off an army.” Amber laughed.
"I'd rather be on spec ops or relaxing." Darkstrider chuckled and looked out to sea where a few people were jet skiing
“Relaxing sounds nice as well.” Amber said with a small smile. She snapped her finger and her dress burst into green flames.
"That's...interesting." he spoke as he watched this occur.
The fire began to disappear starting from her legs up. Once the fire was gone it revealed a black bikini with red accents. “That’s better.” Amber said. Blood still covered her neck and the left side of her upper body.
He nodded in approval. "Care for a swim?" he asked, gesturing towards the sea. "Or there's a pool up top if you'd prefer."
“I think it’d be better if we swam in the ocean first. Don’t want to get all of this blood in the pool.” Amber ran her right hand over the blood smearing it for emphasis.
"True enough I suppose." he spoke, watching her do so. He then headed into the crystal clear waters and floating on the tide
Amber walked calmly into the water. The blood washing off her body as she began to swim.
The current was gentle and the waters were sparkling under the light of the twin suns shone bright in the clear blue skies. Darkstrider was content to float and relax, looking back at the shore where some of his crew had come out to sunbathe.
Amber swam under him, enjoying the cool water. It had been a long time senses she’s been in an actual ocean. She came up and took a deep breath before floating on the surface.
"I do love it here, nice and peaceful." he said, floating on his back.
“It is peaceful.” Amber agreed.
He floated in silence for a while, enjoying his world.
Amber flipped over and swam back to the shore. She burst into flames once again and she was once again wearing her black and red dress.
He swam back and retrieved his shirt from the sand, putting it back on and stretching. "You're welcome to use the facilities. It's refreshing to have someone who isn't trying to shoot me" he chuckled
“Well I would have gone a murderous rampage by now, but the Ancient Ones put a machine in my head that surpasses those emotions.” Amber said offhandedly.
"Well that's...interesting" he spoke with equal concern and interest. "May I ask why you would do that?"
“Normally I’m a psychopathic crazy woman who cuts down swaths of innocent people for pleasure!” Amber said with a smile.
Darkstrider took a moment to pause. "That's awfully honest of you" he chuckled slightly.
“Well, why lie?” Amber teased. A warm smile formed on her face.
"I suppose honesty is a good thing, even if that's what you're being honest about." he chuckled.
“Honesty is always a good policy.” Amber chuckled.
"So what did you do before the AO picked you up?" Darkstrider asked, referring back to her earlier statement
“I went around giving divine justice upon the wicked!” Amber said throwing her hands up and twirling.
"How very dramatic." he chuckled at this.
“The more flare, the more fun!” Amber cheered.
"Flare is certainly an exciting thing to add to any activity." Darkstrider laughed.
“So what now Darkstrider?” Amber asked.
"What would you like to do?" he asked in reply
“So much! But this stupid chip in my brain keeps my emotions in check so I don’t got out of control.” Amber whined. She then glared at the Commons.
"I mean, if it's such a hindrance I could probably do something about it." he shrugged
Amber turned to him and smiled. She wanted him to. Already she could feel the Commons telepathic presence grow.
The suns had begun setting now and the sea air grew a little chilly. "Let's head indoors, i'm feeling hungry anyway." he spoke and began walking towards the stairs up to the villa.
As Amber made to move with Darkstrider the two Commons stepped in her way. “Move out of the way.” She ordered.
”We can not do that Amber. If you were to lose your inhibiter chip, you will go rouge.” One of the Commons said. Amber glared at the two Commons and reached for her cross-like necklace.
"Is there a problem?" he asked, turning around at the base of the stairs.
“Enter a standard orbit and begin scanning.” She ordered.
