Unsettled System: 5 LY south of United Federation Sector
The lone Ancient One Frigate jumped into the small system. There was a normal yellow star with 4 planets in total, perfect for the Ancient Ones. A signal went out to the rest that they had found a star system with planets. The Frigate moved in close to the farthest planet from the star and began to scan it. It was a barren rock supporting no life forms. It also had a high mineral content, especially high in elements such as uranium and plutonium. All minerals the Ancient Ones had no use of.
Unbeknownst to the Ancient Ones, the system they had just arrived in lay in rather close proximity to the New United Federation space, a region of Nuclean territory just south of the main territory. And being in such close proximity meant that the arrival of a foreign signature in it triggered a warning with the Nuclean early warning systems.
Tasked with investigating this anomaly was Forcemaster Coba, who had been placed in charge of territory rapid response for the time being. As such, the battleship Onyx Hand quickly readied itself for jump and then disappeared from space, arriving after the briefest of pauses in the system where the frigate had arrived, several AU away from it's position. The arrival was without signature or really any fanfare, one moment there was nothing, the next a 32.3 kilometer long dark blue vessel. Its hull was sleek and curved, made of a shiny material which seemed somewhat transparent liked extremely polished stone or colored glass while at the same time being metallic. No telltale flare of reaction drives could be detected on it, however for those with gravimetric and other space time sensors, it would be clear to see the distortion in space of its gravimetric drives as it began its approach of the Ancient One vessel with shields up.
Presently, it sent a hail to the frigate in galactic common "Greetings unidentified vessel, you have entered the Nuclean Ecumene early warning zone. Please identify and state your purpose"
The Commander eyed the new vessel cautiously. The message sent by the ‘Nuclean Ecumene’ talked about an early warning zone. The Commons were scurrying across the bridge muddling to themselves about the gravimetric readings of the ship. The Commander looked back to the massive ship and understood they were out matched if they had to get into a fight. Their Frigate wasn’t even half the size of the ship that had contacted them. The Commander sent out a psychic message to the creature which had spoken. “We are the Ancient Ones, we are exploring for worlds from which we will transform to be of use to us.” The Commander then ordered the Pilot to have a course laid for Ancient One space should the Nucleans decide to attack.
Coba was surprised at the psychic message, however he quickly realized that this did not seem to be anyone that the Ecumene had contacted before, and therefore it seemed to be a first contact situation. He quickly contacted his superiors back home and request authority to do so, and upon recieving it, transmitted a reply back over comms "Greetings Ancient Ones, we have not encountered your civilization before. If it is acceptable to you, we would like to meet and discuss relations between our nations"
The Commander listened to the message. It ordered for the Pilot to instead have them bring one of the diplomats. A few seconds passed for the message to reach Ancient One space. An Ancient One Escort jumped in next to the Frigate. A message was sent from the Escort via radio. “This is Amber representing the Ancient One Hegemony. I would like to know if my ship may dock with yours so we may talk.”
A reply quickly came "Greetings Amber, I am Forcemaster Coba. Docking our vessels would be hazardous due to their size. However you are invited to come aboard via shuttle or whatever method suits you so that we may meet."
Amber looked to the towering Commons behind her, “How the hell do we get over there?” She asked. The two Commons turned their heads to face each other and then turned back to Amber. “We do not know.” The one on her right said, “We have never encountered this problem before.” Amber looked dumbfounded at the Commons. “You have to be kidding me right?” she asked. When no answer from her two ‘overwathcers’ she sighed and turned back to the front. “This is Amber, I believe it’s best if you came to our ship. Wear something warm.”
Coba raised an eyebrow at this statement, curious as to her reasoning, but merely replied "Very well. I will be over shortly" before cutting the channel. He gave the order to the battleship's AI to have a shuttle prepared before he exited the bridge, making his way to one of the ship's grid teleportation pads for the journey to the hanger. Presently, he walked into one of the bays in the port hanger, in which a shuttle had been prepared just for his use.
He walked onboard, followed by four marines, and then the shuttle sealed and zoomed out towards the Ancient One vessels.
As it neared the duo of ships, the pilot contacted them, requesting instructions on where to land.
The hull of the Escort shimmered before a small section opened up to an area large enough for the shuttle to land. Small lights began to blink as beacons for landing. “Land in here, atmosphere will be pumped in to your biological needs. Do not leave the shuttle until told to do so, this is for your own personal protection.” came a psychic message.
The shuttle, which followed the same style as the battleship from which it was launched, except for not being semi-transparent but rather more metallic, did exactly as instructed, coming into the area and slowing to a stop with an audible hum. Or at least it would've been audible had their been atmosphere for the sound to propagate through. Once the craft had set down, the occupants inside waited. Truth be told, they were all equipped already to perform a full EVA, but meeting face to face was preferred, and so they waited for the atmosphere to be pumped in, even as the shuttle relayed the optimal mix for the Nucleans to breathe.
A light knocking came from the outside of the shuttle signaling for them to come out.
The pilot, who via the various embedded hull cameras had noticed the person approaching the hull to knock on it, took this as the sign that the Ancient Ones were ready for them to disembark, which a quick glance at the exterior atmospheric sensors confirmed.
With a hiss of equalizing pressure, the doors opened and a short ramp extended to the ground, down which five figures marched, four of which were carrying rifles.
Each figure was humanoid, and roughly six feet tall. All were clad in shiny chrome power armor, however the leading one's armor was slightly different than the other and lacked a helmet unlike the others. The leader approached the one who had knocked on the hull, stopping in front of them at a short distance away. "Greetings, I am Forcemaster Coba. May I presume you are the one known as Amber?"
The girl in front of Forcemaster Coba was around 5ft 2in tall with pale skin, ice blue eyes, and black hair held in a red bow at the end. At most she looked 15 or 16 years of age. She wore a black victorian dress with red accents. A small neckless with a cow skull at the center of a cross. Behind her stood two 10ft tall Ancient One Commons stood motionless. “Hello I am Amber, if you’ll follow us to the diplomatic chambers.” Her breath came out in small clouds of frozen mist.
Coba, or at least the part of Coba that Amber could see (said portion being his head) would have reminded her of a creature from Earth, with a somewhat elongated head covered in fur. When he spoke, she would've likely seen the pronounced incisors within his mouth as well. He nodded at Amber's words "Very well. Please, lead the way"
Despite the cold temperatures, the five Nucleans were not cold in the slightest, as their armor was climate controlled, and Coba's fur kept his head fairly comfortable.
Amber smiled and turned and walked towards the far wall. The wall shimmered and opened with a sound akin to singing. A long, massive, empty hallway greeted them. The two Ancient One Commons moved with small thunks from their spiked feet hitting the crystalline floor. They formed up between Amber and the Nuclean.
Coba followed Amber and the Commons, with his four marines in tow, down the hallway. As they moved, he looked around at the design of the crystalline vessel, as his and the marines' suits performed passive scanning as was usual for them to do.
Amber stopped at a wall and it pulled back to revel a large barren room. She walked inside and stopped in the middle of the room. A table and chairs began to be formed from the floor with a sound like cracking ice.
"Interesting" Coba muttered to himself, as this was perhaps the first time that he was aware of that during first contact a civilization aside from themselves had populated the room with supplies in such a similar fashion. The marines of course remained stoic, and merely waited behind Coba.
“Please, take a seat why don’t you?” Amber asked as she sat across the table from Coba. The two Commons moved to stand behind Amber. The room was also several degrees warmer than the rest of the ship had been.
"Thank you" Coba said, taking a seat where the girl had indicated, as the marines took up position reward of him, two to either side.
The Forcemaster rested his elbows on the table and clasped his hands together while he spoke "Alright, shall we get down to business then? I am most interested to hear about the Ancient One civilization"
“Well there isn't much to say about them. They aren’t very talkative and are older than dirt.” Amber motioned behind her to the Commons.
"Perhaps, but what about their outlook on things? Their motivations for coming to this galaxy? And how do your people do business, particularly with others?" Coba pressed, finding her statement a little odd for a first contact diplomatic situation.
“They Ancient Ones have a saying, ‘Knowledge is the only valuable resource in the universe.’ These guys get worked up about a new anomaly they haven’t seen before.” Amber cracked a smile as she spoke. “They’ve come here because they found ‘Objects of Importance’, or that’s what they tell me anyways. As for business with others they usually trade valuable minerals or metals for tech or scientific works.”
"It seems our civilizations share something in common then: the pursuit of knowledge and study of our surroundings" Coba replied, smiling a bit at the positive return and in response to Amber's expression. Meanwhile, his suit's AI recorded the goings on and transmitted them to the Onyx Hand.
“It does. Tell me would you be willing to offer a map of the galaxy and the current on goings of this galaxy? These idiots might not understand Politics because its a ‘Basics’ wast of time, but I’m a Basic and I have all the time in the universe.” Amber said as she leaned back in the chair
"Yes, that would be acceptable, although certain information about the goings is sensitive and would not be able to be handed over" Coba replied, raising an eyebrow at her comment. "Are you 'Basics' immortal then?"
“The Ancient Ones gave me and six others a form of immortality, it is also a byproduct of experiments we underwent willingly.” Amber said. “Also we will be willing to give you as much ore or other natural riches you desire or need for the information."
Coba nodded at the explanation, then sensing a deal and remembering policy guidelines, responded to the latter part of Amber's words "Well you see, in a similar manner to what your people do, we prefer to trade for technology or information. We do not really have need of ores or 'natural riches' as our mining and manufacturing operations are quite thorough"
Amber stiffened and fought a scowl. "We have technology and information we might be willing to trade."
Coba cocked his head to the side a little at her reaction "I am glad to hear that, although I must apologize if I offended you in some way"
"You haven't, no need to. She replied quickly.
Coba smiled "Excellent. May I ask what this technology and information that you are willing to trade is? I'm sure your people in their pursuit of knowledge, have come across many valuable things "
"They have, we use a special crystal for storing data." Amber pulled a small crystal no bigger than about 5 inches out from her pocket. "This crystal holds the complete data of over 4,000 worlds, from chemical make up, to accurate weather patterns."
Coba nodded "Alright, that sounds good. What else do you have?"
“We don’t use them much but we have advanced medical machines that can treat almost everything, except for severe mutilation. We also have scanners that can tell the everything about a planet, including weather patterns and age. There is also the Void-Matter Reactor which power all Ancient One ships.” Amber listed off.
Within Coba's head, his suit's VI mentioned to him via his neural implants, that the Onyx Hand's AI had highlighted this mention of the Void-Matter reactor as something of interest. Coba then responded accordingly "Can you tell me more about this 'void matter reactor'? I don't believe we've encountered something like that before"
“The reactor uses an exotic form of matter they call ‘Void-Matter’, it is dangerous stuff, causing very explosive reactions with everything that touches it. But when stabilized can provide almost limitless energy. In fact we are above the reactor right now.” Amber said as she stomped on the floor
"Alright. Do you have anything else? Perhaps some sort of weapons technology or anything like that?" Coba inquired
“They AO like to stay with what their creators gave them, which is tachyon weapons. Though they have taken Void-Matter and used it on occasion.” Amber replied.
Coba paused for a moment considered what Amber had said thus far, mentally conferring with the Hand's AI for a moment via neural implants relayed through his suit. Then he spoke "How about you give us your tachyon weapon technology and the planet scanners you mentioned, and we will give you the galactic map and current events as requested"
Amber considered what the Nuclean were offering and looked to the Ancient Ones, when they said nothing it surprised her. “We are willing to give you the weapons and scanners.” Amber said.
"Excellent. We will provide the information as soon as we recieve the items" Coba said with a smile. "This brings me to my next item of business, would your people be interested in a non-agression pact?"
“We will gladly enter a nonaggression pact with the Nucleans.” Amber responded
"Excellent, that is wonderful news" Coba smiled, mentally ordering his ship's AI to send over a copy of the non aggression pact document. Within it spelled out the standard terms and conditions for a NAP, including prohibiting acting as a staging ground for other people to invade each other and being void if one's allies were invaded.
“The terms of this pact are acceptable.” Amber said.
"Perfect. Is there any form of signature required or is your word considered binding?" asked Coba
“We can sign.” Amber said, “Do you have a pen?” Amber reached her hand over the table.
"Yes, one moment" Coba said, as the formula for a pen was transmitted to his suit, which then created one in his hand in a process that made it look like the pen appeared from nothing starting at one end and moving to the other. He then handed the pen to Amber .
Amber looked at the pen then took it. She looked over the pen with a curious eye, turning it over in her hand. She took the paper and scribbled a name down onto the sign area. “There, we now have a nonaggression pact.” Amber said as she slid the paper and pen over.
Coba took the pen, however pushed the document, which already bore his signature, back towards Amber. "That copy is yours to keep. We have our own"
As he took the pen in his hand, it dissolved in a process that appeared like it's creation but in reverse.
Amber took the paper and folded it before placing it in her dress. She stood up and held out a hand, “It has been a pleasure Mr. Coba.”
Coba stood and took her hand, shaking it firmly. "The pleasure was mine. I look forward to good relations between our nations in the future."
