Lost Star:
Devo was a busy woman. Trying to put a dipshit lordling on a throne he didn't deserve tended to do that to a person. More so when the expenses kept racking up and the lordling had brilliantly managed to get his accounts frozen. So her days were full to the breaking point, meeting with people who could help her team on the ground or meeting with investors willing to fund the ongoing campaign.
One job had consumed all of the poor woman's available time and had it not been for the substantial fee offered to her she would have outright refused the second job. But the only thing in shorter supply than time was money, so here she was.
Even then the whole meeting was coloured by the overworked nature of the woman who arranged it. The location was a quiet (by Lost Star standards at any rate) breakfast joint at a time best described as 'too early' but that was the only time the woman could find.
So she waited at a corner table, looking every bit as exhausted as she felt and trying to decide if the bacon and eggs set before her was real or not.
A somewhat small Asian women seemed to sit at the table, taking the chair and smiling to Devo as she sat down. There was nothing particularly noteworthy about the women who now sat across from Devo she seemed just like every other denizen from Lost Star, ragged, tired and clearly wishing to be somewhere else.
"Hello there, I was sent by some friends of mine. Would you happen to be Devo by any chance? I don’t want you to be the fourth failure to meet someone I’ve had this morning" She chuckled nervously.
"I’m Sian, and may I ask do you normally eat breakfast from an empty plate"
"Yeah that’s me," Devo said with a tired yawn and a glance down at her plate.
"So you want to start by telling me what exactly it is you're looking for?"
"I’m here looking for people with a certain set of skills who may be able to help me and my benefactors. We need some... Aggressive recon so to say" The lady smiled as she took out a flask and took a sip.
"We need to do some strikes and know some stuff, and I heard that your fellows may be able to help. Sorry I’m sort of new to this" She laughed.
"Anonymity will cost you extra," Devo commented, picking up her cup of coffee and bringing it to her lips. "I don't know you and you could be walking anyone I send into a trap. Half the agreed upon payment will be upfront as well,"
She paused to take a sip of her coffee before returning the cup to the table.
"The organization is in something of a state of flux at the moment. There's a couple hundred independent vessels that haven't amalgamated into one of the other gangs and they're looking for someone to rally behind. That someone is going to be whoever suits your needs the best,"
She paused again, this time to idly push food around her plate.
"So what exactly are you looking to get done?"
"I have more than enough to cover the costs available, and I planned to give half up front anyway, I would prefer to keep my benefactors anonymous although truth be told I don’t actually know myself who the original job came from I’m afraid" She chuckled. Taking another sip of the flask she was carrying before continuing.
"They sound perfect for the job, we need some raiding done. Intelligence gathering on locations and defences is what the job entails the most. Although if you can capture a ship or ascertain the tech used it would also be handy." She pulled out a simple data slate "The target is the APP nation Shadowblade as they are named, somewhat unknown. My benefactors wish to know more about them and get some edges against them in the long term" She smiled.
"Any specific target in mind?" Devo asked pulling tapping away at her tablet briefly.
"Intelligence gathering would also seem to indicate you're not exactly looking for a violent psychopath so that crosses some names off of the list. Doesn't look like I have any captains with an intelligence background... no, that would be to easy... but I do have a couple ex-military types, some up jumped thugs and gang bangers, couple smugglers... any of these jumping out at you?"
"Ex-Military seems good enough for this mission, no specific targets that come to mind mostly systems with high traffic contents, anything important that catches your eye feel free to check it out. Anything learned is better than nothing" She smiled as Devo mentioned the Ex-military types.
"If you find any particularly tempting targets and you wish to take either prisoners or examples of technology or critical data those will be appreciated, expect a large bonus if you manage to acquire such, I’m sure that will be quite an incentive to your people to do some... Interesting things with"
"I'll be sure to pass that on," Devo said with a yawn.
"You know where any of these planets or hubs are or am I sending someone in blind?"
"We have some locations that we can forward on to you via backroom channels otherwise just use your instincts, I’ve always found it better to not know where you’re going to find something important" She yawned too, Devos own yawn being somewhat contagious.
"Is that all you need or any more details? The money will be transferred within the hour half up front the rest plus any added bonuses will come after"
"Information on weapons and tactics would be useful. Convoy routes if you had them... anything an enterprising pirate might find useful in the planning of a raid." Devo answered with a shrug. "And I'll need time. The woman I've chosen will take some convincing. She'll be a tad out of her element on this."
"Everything we have will be sent along with the money, including knowledge on Shadowblade and how they operate along with some of the convoy routes that have been identified. As for time... The war doesn’t seem to be massively racing towards its conclusion so you have the time you need" She then leant back into her chair.
"Well hopefully she will be in such after this raid. But I will leave the convincing to you of course"
"Once payment is received I'll call up Helena," Devo said with a nod. "Leave comms details for me and I'll be in touch when we have some results for you,"
"Excellent I shall await such then, here is the com details" She handed Devo a small data slate before standing up from the chair.
"I guess that will be it then, I await your results, and hope you get some rest" She smiled, nodded and then slowly walked off into the crowd.
