He sat back in the padded leather chair and took a long drag on the shisha pipe built into the captain’s seat. Darkstrider rarely smoked but he needed something to relax him at the moment. Seixit had told him of the goings on with the Dominion and it had proved an issue. He never liked moving house but the circumstances called for it. As such, he’d loaded all their gear into the fleet, taken some crew, and proceeded off into space.
Being Sabre team was both a blessing and a curse. For one, everyone within a dozen lightyears knew you were coming unless you were actively trying to hide. Already a half dozen little groups of wannabe bounty hunters and pirates had tried to attack them. In all but one occasion, he had killed their leader first then wiped them out. In the other instance, he slept with their captain instead. She was now working as a quartermaster on deck 3. He took a long drag before breathing out.
He couldn’t go back to the Union, he knew that much. For all his best efforts the second Ancerious war had started thanks to him. He couldn’t go to Triarch, his old friends who had thrown in their lot with the APP and liquidated his stocks. That in itself had been a large setback but he’d had money elsewhere and had acquired a new fortune from killing pirates and taking their money. He couldn’t just buy an apartment in the neutral micronations that dotted Ancerious. As evidenced by the constant attacks, bounty hunters would find him eventually. It was quite the Conundrum.
“All loot aboard Sir.” Kali told him as she entered the bridge. Was that Kali? Or was it one of the others? He wasn’t bothered enough to check right now. “Very good, get us underway then.” He spoke with a general tone of someone beyond bored with their current circumstance.
“Ellio what are we even doing? We’ve been fighting pirates and bounty hunters for weeks!” a female voice came over her comms. He sighed slightly. “I’m trying to think of a plan Eleanor, please stop pestering me.” He replied. “She has a point you know” a voice near identical to his answered. He held the bridge of his nose. “For the last time Ector, we will keep going until we find a place to settle!” he snapped and the comms went silent.
He took a moment to think and brought up the galaxy map. “Wait a second.” He spoke and zoomed in to a sector, then a system, then a planet. “John, is Dalys still there?” he asked. “From what data I have acquired there has been no hostile incursion or discovery of Dalys. It would be a suitable staging ground.” The scientist replied. “All ships plot a course. We’re going to the beach.” He grinned.
The thirteen vessels moved through the portals and exited in orbit of the planet. “We’ve been targeted!” Kali warned as warning alarms blared. “Oh shit, Dominion never got added to the guest list.” Darkstrider said quickly and sent out a pacifying signal. The defensive platforms stood down and went back to dormancy. “Everyone take up station in orbit, cloak the ships then meet me at these coordinates.” Ellio ordered and sent out the info. The small flotilla took up station and thirteen shuttles launched, one from each.
They settled on the beach outside the complex and the identical teams walked out of their shuttles. Several stretched, others grumbled and Ellio just sighed. “Right! Let’s get inside. John and co get the systems powered up, make sure everything works. Kali and friends, secure the island and make sure there aren’t any nasty surprises. Barbossa and pals, start lugging the kit inside. Khan and wierdo’s…you do you.” He ordered and the teams moved off, leaving Darkstriders on the beach. “And us?” Eleanor asked him. He was still getting used to his female double. “We contact what ever contacts we have left and start getting resources. We’ve got work to do…after a drink.” He grinned.
