GEK Space: Capital Planet Kel’thul
Above Kel’thul is a bustling space of both civilian and military ships, freighters moving about between the numerous defense stations, civilian liners transporting citizens and tourists around to luxury stations and down to the surface. Other ships bring people from the planet over to the two moons of the planet, the large stations lancing rifts into the meridian, while stations on the opposite side lance exit rifts. Some ships even bring individuals as far as other planets or systems, though travel of that distance is quite expensive for an average civilian.
Down on the planet, the vast oceans are just as active, submarines surfacing to view beautiful skies, while others dive to avoid tropical storms. Massive Cargo Submarines go through charted trade routes, while fishing or civilian submarines go on their own paths, exploring the mostly charted oceans. Deep beneath the sea lays an area of ocean so deep that it has yet to be conventionally explored.
A Private company by the name of “Kel’thul Ocean Adventures Inc.” has invited people from other nations around the galaxy to embark on an expedition and explore the depths for no cost at all! The only thing required is the signing of a waiver that protects the suing of the company in the event of injury, death, or loss of property in exchange for financial compensation to the individual or an individual’s family if these events were to occur. Those who accept the invitation are allowed to keep any creatures killed and brought inside via the sub’s lower dive bay, where they will be pulled in by a grappling harpoon retracted into the diving bay. All the previously listed information is to be given on the formal invitation sent out to all possible participants via ANC-Net Mail.
Kel’thul, Dry Dock on continent Kiithos.
The Privately owned submarine sits in dry-dock, people walking around as submarines leave and enter the dock. As all this happens, the captain of the vessel, Re’ta’va, Walks towards the submarine. He used to captain a military vessel patrolling the ocean, but now he was deemed too old for extended military service and is stuck to captaining damned civilian vessels.
His latest job, captaining the ‘Intrepid’. He walked atop it, climbing down into the top airlock, and putting on his CO2 mask where he grabbed a cup of Gor’on, similar to coffee, but made with the seeds of a native seaweed, which has since then been sent over and farmed on other worlds within the Kel’thulian Empire.
He walks into the airlock to the bridge of the vessel, where it vents and allows him in where he removes the CO2 mask and clamps his mandibles around the specially designed cup and lifted it up, taking a drink of the liquid, it having a bitter, but fruity taste. The Crew walk around making preparations as they await those who were invited on this exploration. Re’ was Dreading this trip, for reasons yet to be known.
The Cockpit has its own airlock, allowing it to have a carbon atmosphere separate from the main ship. Directly attached to the bridge is the crew’s quarters and the captain’s quarters. Re’ Anxiously waits for the invitees to arrive to the planet, sitting at his chair and trying to relax.
A small ship buzzed across the stars, and lowered itself into Kel'thul. Operative 189278-FSAO tasked with intelligence gathering, and manipulation. Hailing from the independent colony of Aquanine. Taking the form of a slick skinned blue woman with several head tentacles coming down from her head instead of hair to about her hips. Nine in total of them. Black eyes that did not blink, and a natural affinity to water being an amphibious race. A natural two hearts, and last of all an extreme resistant to acidic environments due to her almost blubber like skin. A natural choice for this mission. Unlike most other Tranatonian guises this one was actually a slave race made by the Tranatonians on accident. Being a genetically modified human, that could breathe underwater. Their biology was only minimally different than just a normal human. Her ship would land, and she would come out wearing a black full-body environmental suit. A glowing blue visor and the loud clattering as she walked as the metallic sheathes over her headtress' many appendages smacked together. Even in her suit the woman was attractive by most standards, and walking with almost a skip. She casually went right up to the sub armed with only a high caliber tachyon pistol, and a sheathed knife. A few pouches around her suit containing misc gear. She would walk right into the sub after showing any form of ID she needed, and even still going into the o2 environment was yet to take off her suit.
To Desard this trip to the planet of Kel'thul was one of the best gifts Dagon could have given her. Even though shes only been serving in the Melon-Long research department for only a few months she gained a love of researching organic life out among the stars. And the vast oceans of the planet below her seemed poised to give her just what she wanted. She was directly accompanied by two body guards Redin, a warrior who she had only gotten to know on the trip to Kel'thul and Melall a psyker and fellow colleague in the research department. Besides them a small Melon-Long ship and its crew served as support staff ready to assist if needed and to carry what ever beast they managed to subdue back to the empire.
Once they were finished checking in at one of the orbital stations Desard, and her two companions boarded their Root drop ship and began making their way to the planet surface.
---------------------------------------------------------------
As the drop-ship landed at one of the landing pads near the sub Desard and the others donned their breathing gear. It seamlessly integrated with their carapaces, which had been made fully encompassing for this mission, and caused their lip-less toothy grin to disappear, making their face appear blank. Once they finally touched down they descended out of the ship's maw and began to make their way over to the sub preforming one last check of their equipment and supplies including food and a few small weapons like their claw knives. As they neared the sub Desard took in her surroundings admiring the beauty and vastness of the surrounding oceans and wondering what creatures awaited them below the surface.
The two Vahnnans have already donned their environmental suits by the time their vessel lands. They'd received passage on a civilian transport vessel, their fare paid for by the VFS government; one of the only things House Fel'nah decided to pay for, much to their dismay. After docking with an orbiting station and transferring to a craft bound for the surface, they'd prepared for the journey to the sub.
Geon and Feina Fav'vrana, one a 35 year-old male, the other a 37 year-old female. Husband and wife, both employed to the House Fel'nah Museum of Interstellar Biology, both part-time sightseers. Standing around 3 feet tall, the duo are remarkably small compared to most, though their tails do help alleviate this somewhat, trailing behind the ground as they walk. Their suits are composed of fabrics in varying grey tones, with bits of bright, reflective tape-esque material on their shoulders, elbows, and knees; practical safety suits, complete with an airtight seal, a spacious helmet with an optionally-opaque visor, and a small, integrated pack on their backs. The packs contain the suit's power core, air supply, and several other miscellaneous functions for keeping the suit operable. Several small pouches on the belt of the suits provides storage for gizmos and gadgets, and sheathed adjacent to one of Geon's pouches is a small blade.
With their visors currently clear and oxygen now flowing into their helmets, they step out and onto the dry-dock. The next step of course is to proceed to the 'Intrepid', where they'll no doubt meet the others that'll be present on the journey. Feina clings to her spouse's arm, moreso to make sure she doesn't hop away- the energy in her movements is reminiscent of a young child, and the smile on her face only validates this comparison. Geon is similarly enthusiastic, though he limits his excitement to a rapid tapping of his fingers on the side of his suit as they approach the submarine.
As they walk through the streets of Kel'thul, they see ornate buildings mixed in with the industrial styled buildings of large companies, large towers with logos contrasting against the small local-owned shops and homes. The Streets bustle with activity, people talking off to the side, civilians going to and fro the shops, off-duty military personnel laughing with their buddies, and even vehicles going down the streets. The group arrives at the sub at roughly the same time, seeing eachother as they enter the sub. Once all of them are aboard, a hiss erupts from the airlock between the main compartment and the crew quarters as the captain walks out in breathing gear.
"Greetings, I am your captain, my name is Re'va'ta, but you may call me Re'. We will leave port once you have introduced yourselves to eachother and the crew."
As he says this a female Kel'thulian walks past and enters the airlock to the crew's quarters.
"Through that airlock is the Crew's quarters as well as the bridge, i would not suggest entering that area without your breathing gear equip, as through that airlock is an atmosphere alike to the one of our planet. For your comfort the rest of the submarine has an oxygenated atmosphere. Right now we are in the lobby of the submarine. There is a small kitchen," He points to behind him where there is a fridge, small stove, and a counter with some utensils, as well as drawers and cupboards filled with other things. "a seating area to my left with entertainment such as a device that can play small chips that contain movies." He points to a large drawer filled with small chips that have holo-labels. The chips themselves are only slightly smaller than an average human hand. "The Rest of the sub will be shown to you by To'fe'na, who is the crew member directly assigned to show you around the rest of the sub. Please get acquainted to those around you and relax for a moment while we prepare the sub to launch from dock." He slightly bows and enters the airlock, leaving the group to speak amongst themselves.
In the seating area there are Two large couches sitting infront of a device on a stand that connects to pairs of objects that look similar to glasses that are very moldable to allow them to conform to one's head. These devices will play any movie or video that his inserted into the device via the data chips instead of some large and fragile screen. Along with the glasses are similarly moldable earphone devices.
Only after the captain is done speaking and they're left to their own devices do the Vahnnan proceed to remove their helmets; the visor slides down into a receptacle while the sides fold in on themselves, stored compactly in the neck of the suit so as to remove the hassle of lugging a helmet around. The moment Feina lets go of Geon's arm she's off to inspect the entertainment section as well, a small metal earpiece in her left ear quickly pulling up a holographic display in front of her eyes as she goes about searching for something- information, most likely.
Similarly to Redin, Feina wants to know on the planet's aquatic life. She already knows some preliminary things, but nothing particularly useful just yet. Geon, meanwhile, approaches To'fe'na at roughly the same time as Melall. A curt nod is given to the both of them, his hands clasped behind his back.
Operative 189278-FSAO disappears off the ship...
Redin and Feina find some documentaries on the ocean of Kel'thul.
After about 10 minutes there is a loud hiss as the airlock opens, and out walks a tall Kel'thulian woman, presumably To'fe'na. She walks to the middle of the area and calls for everyone's attention
"Greetings, I am your guide, To'fe'na, meet me over here when you are all ready. Hmm, I was told there were five people... Where did the other one go? no matter. As i said, please meet me over here when you are ready to begin your tour of the sub."
Feina takes a few moments more to inspect one of the documentaries before the holographic display winks away, the earpiece powering down as she starts to stride back over to the central area. Geon is waiting for her, and he glances over at the other Vahnnan before turning his attention back to To'fe'na.
At the mention of the missing individual the duo take a look back towards the airlock, where the Operative had departed- no matter, they have a tour to attend. Two sets of black eyes focus back on their guide, though Feina does glance over at the other foreigners, Desard and her team, before her gaze settles back on their guide.
Finally seeing the sub tour guide Melall made her way over to them eager to see what made this sub tick as well as what design philosophies and idea went into it. Desard, after taking a minute to look over the small kitchen walked over to join her. She hoped that the tour of the sub would also go over the kitchen so her food related questions would be answered.
Redin simply turned his head to see who had just entered and then quickly went back to the video he was watching.
seeing them approach, To' awaits for them to arrive before speaking.
"Are there any specific questions or areas you would like to see before we get moving?"
She wears elegant robes, what would be seen as formal elsewhere, but is simply casual clothing for the higher-end parts of kel'thulian society. On her face is a breathing mask that has a speaker on the front, and a cord that attaches to a small tank carrying CO2 that slowly recycles Carbon Dioxide from the air aswell.
Taking a second to ponder over the myriad of possible questions she could ask Melall decided to ask a simple technical question.
"So is there anything that makes the Intrepid special in regards to other types of subs your species use?"
Desard also quickly piped up with her own little question while leaning over Melall's shoulder. "What sort of staple foods and dishes do you all normally eat?"
Geon holds up a hand for his own question, though despite him raising the limb high it barely reaches anyone's shoulders. "What sort of information do we have on the region of ocean we're set to enter? Any preliminary data? Or will we be going in 'blind', metaphorically speaking?"
At the mention of food Feina's stomach grumbles. She purses her lips, hands clasped behind her back.
She begins to answer the questions one by one
"The Intrepid has been designed with an extremely resilient hull to allow it to go deeper than any other submarine, even farther down than the revered cruisers our nation has patrolling deep-sea supply and trade routes. In shallower waters, it has a unique harpoon gun that can be lowered down when opening the extremely thick moonpool doors on the lower end of the sub."
Looking over to desard, she replies to him next
"There are many things, from the continent you arrived on, one of their cultural dishes is Konuc Ared, which is comprised of a native grain, Konuc, fried in the fat of a local livestock species, known as Areden, and then fried strips of Ared meat are mixed in with it, as well as various vegetables, which gives it it's name. A Drink that is very common here is made of a seaweed species that is dehydrated, roasted, and then crushed up and put into hot water, it has a lot of caffeine in it as well as sugars, giving it a sweet, salty, and slightly bitter taste."
She then looks over to Geon and answers his question
"We know this region of the ocean is extremely deep, but we have very little information past the midnight zone due to the region's remoteness from Trade routes and islands."
Having her only real question answered Desard gave a slight nod and grunt of understanding before moving back to the kitchen to sample some of the food in it.
Also having her main question answered Melall said, "Huh, simple but still interesting", and simply stood by waiting. All the while both mentally organizing the more minor and specific questions to be brought up as the need arises and going over how such a depth feat could be replicated biologically.
Geon nods as his question is answered. Meanwhile, Feina jots a few quick notes down on what To'fe'na said regarding the Intrepid's capabilities, as well as the little that was shared about the region they'll be visiting shortly; the few lines of short text are typed up on a small, flexible screen on her suit's left forearm to be saved for later if need be.
"Nothing quite as exciting as venturing into uncharted waters, eh?" Geon remarks, chuckling softly to himself.
"Indeed, the ocean is an amazing place."
She begins to motion for the group to follow as she starts slowly walking to the next room
"If there are any questions, please let me know, the next room is the small hallway leading down the ship, to the first left and right there are sleeping quarters, as well as the next two doors, each quarter has a set of drawers, a bedside table, and two small beds on either side of the table. Past these 4 rooms is the observation room, storage room, engine room, and the moonpool. Where would you like to see first?"
More interested in seeing the the inner workings of the subs engine and in turn more interested in brainstorming a biological equivalent Melall put in her bid for going to the engine room first.
"Assuming you want us to vote on it I'll put mine on going to the engine room first. It has been a while since I've seen an engine that wasn't basically just a stomach."
In contrast to Melall, Geon opts for the moonpool. "I for one would like to visit the moonpool- or at least the observation room." He pauses, one hand rubbing his chin. "Though I must admit, the engine room does sound intriguing. Perhaps we could head there first, for the sake of not being at odds." Feina is quick to nod along as Geon speaks, finishing up her typing and setting her arm back down by her side.
"Very well, to the engine room it is"
The group walks down the hall, as the door slides open with a hiss into a small airlock
"Inside the engine room is a carbon dioxide atmosphere much like out planet, allowing the crew to keep systems running in more comfortable conditions, please pass through the airlock one at a time and take a breathing mask to allow you to breath."
She passes through first, entering the airlock as it closes behind her, then removing her mask and placing it on a rack near other masks more shaped for humanoid faces, but with the slight flexibility of things such as the headset in the entertainment room. The airlock allows her into the room and closes again, opening on the side of the others to let them in..
Stepping inside the air-lock Melall took a quick few seconds to re-don her own rebreather and to quickly look over the provided breathing masks. After getting into the engine room she made her way over to To'fe'na to wait for her fellow tourists. A few choice questions brimming in her mind.
Feina and Geon, of course, follow along as the group makes their way in the direction of the engine room. As the airlock is entered the two pay closer attention to their guide's words, and after she's done speaking the two Vahnnans each grab a breathing mask; if they hadn't been pointed out, there's a slight chance Geon might've just forgotten entirely- and yet he still wonders why Feina is said to be the more observant of the two.
Once their masks are donned and Geon's is double-checked by Feina, the two enter the engine room and move to stand beside the others.
Inside the engine room is the incessant churning and rumbling of the ships engines, the power generated being shifted around the whole vessel's systems, powering from stem to stern, propellers, entertainment systems, lighting, and a whole slew of other things.
After having removed her own mask to allow herself to breathe the fresh air in the room, To' stands in front of the engine, but a decent distance away.
"Try not to get too close, the engines can get quite hot sometimes. Does anyone have any questions?"
Before any of them could answer, a loud screeching noise is heard outside and the ship shakes. The Tour guide quickly asks over the radio what it was. Some wildlife had accidentally knocked into the ship, so they should be fine, she tells those she has on tour. But not long after she looks behind her and sees that part of the engine had been knocked loose, simply a few bolts, but more than enough to warrant a return to the surface for safety of the explorers. Sadly, the adventure was cut short and they were asked to return to their ships for a few hours while the ship undergoes maintenance.
Thus they did. Leaving the ship empty, aside from engineers working on the engine. Quietly floating in the dockyards as the sun slowly sets over the horizon...
