Beyond the beautiful skies of the world she lived in, a star fell from space.
Risya Nalira gazed beyond the little window to catch one more glimpse of the bright tail left behind by the falling object. The tail faded into the darkness of the universe, but the bright green contact that registered itself on the screen of her computer remained.
She hummed.
But the humming ceased.
When she studied what appeared on her screen... She knew this wasn't something she'd like to see. This was a contact. A real contact.
That, or she could just be losing it. It has been several hours since she had any real rest, but she had trust in what she was seeing. Her computer has never failed her. Not once. Not in her time as a trusted officer assigned to one out of many sensor monitoring stations. And there was no error. It was impossible.
The sensors she had under her control were top of the line, and though she was one out of many souls out there looking out for anything from beyond their borders⸺not excluding other threats such as falling meteorites or other objects or entities which still pose a danger to either the world or the assets of the world⸺she was afraid of what this is.
A contact. A real contact.
She rushed to gather more identifying details. But as she worked on her keyboard, the contact started moving. It was moving.
Risya activated her comm phone to Aitanian Void Monitoring Command and picked it up. As she kept working on the keyboard, noting down on the screen a quick report of the contact and when it appeared, the line rang and rang until...
CLICK!
"AVC S-11-IC, this is AVMC."
"AVMC, Sector 11-IC reporting; contact identified at..." She peered at the coordinates and read them. Then she continued. "My systems are reading the contact as a... civilian fleet. It is approaching my sector. Still trying to get more details. I'm counting....three...five...ten...fifteen ships approaching. AVMC, my systems should begin transmitting the data stream to you. How copy?"
A moment. Risya watched the screen anxiously. The group of contacts continued to approach. The buoys and drones were registering more of it. Details were appearing more and more on her screen. They were not Aitanian, so they couldn't be lost ships returning from the warp. They were foreign, but nothing on her systems identified them as any of the powers or of the unaligned.
Then a reply.
"Sector II-IC, this is AVMC. You are to continue monitoring this group. Continue your tasks. Get on this line if the group becomes hostile. We are sending interceptors to meet them."
