How Does it Work

Used as a means for faster and more efficient rail networks and elevators in many environments from planetary subsurfaces to planetary orbits and larger ships for easier transportation of personnel and materiel.
Drawbacks
If a malfunction or damage occurs it would require extensive time to build/repair due to whole segments of rail needing to be repaired or replaced. The power of the rails is also relative to how much power can be put through them as well as how much power they can actually use before overloading, meaning that they will always have speed restrictions placed on them according to their size. Replacement parts take up a large amount of storage space for easier repair.
Advantages
Cheap and easy to mass produce as a versatile weapon system and can fire anything from solid shots to missiles at high speeds both on land and in space.

How Does it Work
Uses almost pure radioactive material to induce nuclear fission by forcing it to have critical mass. This forces the material to undergo a runaway fission reaction that causes a large explosion.

Used primarily as an energy source, although a lot less pure, and used as heavy duty explosives for mining. Many uses may apply with some ingenuity.
Drawbacks
Explosions tend to leave radioactive debris which most organic and synthetic life is allergic to. If the device is damaged enough it would refuse to explode and just be an inert piece of radioactive junk.

How Does it Work
