Sharil, the commander of his squad of the Imperial Elites, held his plasma blaster tightly in his metallic armour-covered hands. For the umpteenth time he examined his weapon. Just a few days ago before he and his team was transferred from Earth to the Ancerious Galactic, he was firing a normal conventional S35 assault rifle which by the rest of the universe's standards, primitive in nature but nevertheless effective in combat all the same. Now in the seemingly abandoned wrecked-up Tenebraen shipyard, he was holding one of the most advanced weapons that could be used by humans. Unlike the other plasma rifles which was frequently used by the techno-maniac Sentinel Divisionate, the one he held had a light metallic grey finish for the main body of the weapon and its surface was smooth. The light grey metal shone when a ray of light reflected on it, giving it a white highlight. The rest of the plasma blaster was black in colour. Indeed the weapon was still rectangular in shape, but the the sleeker design and the glowing lines that ran across the body of the weapon gave it the impression that it was advanced, like no other plasma weapons produced by mankind. Sharil stopped examining his newly prized weapon and looked up. There was still nothing in front of him except grey and black walls where occasionally exists a broken pipe or an emergency light with a shattered casing.
"Team Alpha, this is Hades. Do you copy?" Sharil and his team's communication systems crackled. It broke the eerie silence in the corridor that they were moving through. Immediately Sharil set his microphone on to respond.
"Hades, this is Team Alpha copying. What do you need? Over." Sharil whispered.
"Team Alpha, what is your status? Your report was supposed to be in 15 minutes ago!" chided Hades. Sharil eyes widen and he tried to form an explanation.
"Hades, we kinda...well anyway we are inside the corridor networks, moving our way parallel to the Union forces. Over," Sharil muttered. There was a pause momentarily before Hades came in again.
"Well then Team Alpha, good hunting. We are recording your video feeds anyway but we jut wanna make sure it isn't a loop. Hades out,"
The communications systems turned off as soon as Hades cut off the link. Sharil turned around, only to find his men looking at him with a body language of amusement.
"Hades is a bitch, aren't they? Perfectionists and that's as expected of our old war veterans and Academy boys," rasped Vladimir. Vladimir donned the biggest exoskeleton armour among the five-man commando team and wielded a huge Plasma Vaporizer which encompassed his whole forearm. Unlike the simple look of the Plasma Blaster, the huge bulky Vaporizer was more complex-looking with small machinery parts moving every second and glowing blue energy wiring that extended from the fusion pack at Vladimir's back to the energy cells of the enormous weapon. The Plasma Vaporizer was said to be a very powerful weapon as it used Vaporizer technology recovered from both Monarch and Mystican weaponry which can take apart the molecules of the material atom by atom, turning it to crumbling rock fragments or even ash.
Sharil looked at the Russian and nodded in agreement. He was right, commanders that had either seen many battles or just fresh from the academy held high expectations of their subordinates and while their attention can be taxing, Sharil knew that it was for the good of the mission and the men as well.
"Come on guys keep in formation. I don't want to hear that one of us got missing," ordered Sharil. Immediately the two at his sides moved back a little closer to cover the flanks, while the other two that lagged behind quickly caught up and protected the team's backs. All of the commandos got their weapons up and ready to fire at moments' notice.
"ARGHH! HELP! HELP ME! ARGHH!" a scream suddenly resonated, loud enough for the commando team to hear. The Team Alpha stopped and looked at each other. Sharil at the front, advanced slowly and peeked out from the corner. It was a shock at first but the effects wore off, for he had seen those kind of situations before in his combat experiences.
What he saw would immediately make the normal human puke a second later, and cause the faint-hearted to go limp. Pools of blood lay on the metal floor of the corridor along with some blackish paste-like material. Three bodies lay limp outside a door. The first had his arm taken apart and his body ripped open as if something forced its way outside from inside his guts. His small intestines were exposed and was torn apart as well, sharing the same fate as his stomach. His face still had a shocked expression though his eyes were closed. The second body leaned against the wall, sliced into two. Blood still continuously flowed from his upper and lower torso to form a large puddle of blood underneath the body. The third one lay on the ceiling and huge black nail-like appendages punctured his limbs as well as his body and his head and attached his body to the ceiling. All the three mutilated corpses wore uniforms not belonging to the Union nor the Tenebrae. The uniforms that they still wore were ripped and torn apart until even the identification badges were missing.
A second cry of pain came around again and this time Team Alpha managed to track it to the door. Another scream sounded again. The sounds were definitely from behind the door. Sharil gestured his demolition man, Jia Jun, to plant a breaching charge on the door. Jia Jun acknowledged and fished out a white square breaching charge from his satchel and placed it on the door. He turned on the detonator and immediately Jia Jun wasted no time to run and urge the others to rush to a safe distance. 5 seconds later, the charge blew up with a loud thunderous crash with the remains of the door blown to every direction. The men rushed into the room with their weapons brandished and ready for firing. They stopped dead in their tracks as soon as they saw what they found instead.
The room was large and several pipes and wires decorated the walls and the ceiling. The lights were off as the power grid was offline and the only source of illumination was the emergency lights which barely lit up the whole room. Some parts of the room was red in colour as the red light from the emergency lights reflect on them, while the other sections were totally black. Pools of black and red blood were on the floor surrounding several horribly mutilated bodies of soldiers and non-combatants. Blood splattered on the walls and dripped down to the ground level, giving the room an eerie appearance. Sharil and his team were scared and anxious what could come out to kill them. They switched on their thermal vision. They did not like what they saw.
While indeed many were left ripped open and dead, there were some others that were still alive. However they were not in a favourable position. Through the blue, red, white and yellow colours of the thermal visions, several humanoid figures were thrashing about trying to get some gooey substance that was on their backs and their faces. Screams of pain and horror echoed throughout the room. Without the thermal visions they could not have detected them.
"ARGGHH! PLEASE SPARE ME! THE PAIN! ARFGHBRGHH NOO!" screamed one in panic as he moved to all sides with his arms trying to resist the gooey substance.
"Pathetic creature, you are now our puppets!" roared the same guy suddenly as if he went a personality change. Then he went to screaming. As soon as the substance encompassed the whole of his body, it soon shifted to all sides and expanded in size though the body's shape was no longer human. It's right arm became bigger than the left one which did not change in size or shape. Claws suddenly sprang out from the right hand, ripping through the flesh with absolutely no care at all. Spikes then appeared from his back and his shoulders. The human that transformed now no longer looked like one but now appeared like a monster. It howled in pain and then suddenly from the resistant body stature the mutant's body went limp and stationary for a split second. Its deformed head then looked up. It looked at Sharil and his team.
The other humanoids that were also trashing about like the previous guy soon underwent similar transformations, changing from a normal human to a hulking, atrocious-looking deformed creatures. All of their 'eyes' turned towards Sharil and his team. Sharil signalled his team to get ready to fire. The commandos spread out to gain cover and raised their plasma weapons.
"Humans... another but different than the rest. But no matter, you will be either killed or be one of us!" grasped one of the creatures. The creature in the middle began producing a loud roar and the three mutants behind it leapt forward, landing on the floor with a loud thud. They charged forward to hunt down the IRS commandos.
"OPEN FIRE! OPEN FIRE!" shouted Sharil as he clenched the trigger of his blaster repeatedly. His plasma blaster rapidly launched out circular bolts of ionised energy towards the incoming oversized mutants. Soon his men also did the same as they fired their blasters at the newfound enemy. The plasma bolts burned and seared the flesh of the abominations and soon due to the intense heat of the plasma bolts the flesh evaporated as left vapour trailing up to the air. Their flesh cracked and glowed red-yellow and the creatures stopped their advance. They brought up their mutated arms to defend themselves but like the fleshy parts of their bodies the skin from their arms burned and were vaporized by intense plasma fire. However, as soon as they fell down they got back up again in a second. The holes in their bodies were filled up by black goo and the cracked burning tissues were spewed out like chewing gum. They regenerated.
"Well well well. Looks like you don't stand a chance, puny lifeforms-"
"NO! Take this and go back to hell!" Vladimir shouted from far and brought up his right arm where the Plasma Vaporizer Cannon was. He fired it and a large ball of blue-white plasma rocket its way to the mutant that tried to taunt the commandos. The ball of energy was right on target and like a deflating balloon, the ball of energy lost its shape and its energy surrounded the body of the mutant. Intense heat then followed as most of its body burned up and turned into glowing cracked skin. However the creature found itself unable to regenerate and fell to the ground. The Vaporizer shot, unlike plasma bolts, had some anti-matter capability and now it did not just burned the mutant, but also broke up the molecules and compounds of its body atom by atom. The injured mutant then crumbled into several rock-like fragments and the liquids that should be blood was now ash. The other three surviving mutants was momentarily surprised but soon turned back to the IRS Commandos.
"No matter we can replace him; BY USING YOU ALL!" screamed the second mutant as it charged towards Jia Jun, which was nearest to its previous position. Jia Jun stopped firing his plasma machine gun and rolled to the side, just in time to dodge the mutant's charge. The mutant slammed into the wall, breaking it in the process. It realized that its prey was not yet dead and turned to its side, spotting Jia Jun. Jia Jun immediately wasted no time and ran backwards while he fired his plasma machine gun. The shots slowed it down but its fast regeneration rate recovered it fast. The mutant then brandished a segment of a metal pipe and threw it to Jia Jun's direction. The metal pipe struck his back and sent him crashing to the floor. The mutant leapt to his position and was now almost face to face with the human in front of it. It then raised its badly deformed hand with the huge claws and just as he was about to bring it down to his prey, Jia Jun activated his energy sword device which was mounted on his right wrist and out came out a green triangular energy blade. Jia Jun slashed the mutant hand with the energy blade cutting it in the process. Black blood sprayed in all directions and the mutant howled in pain. Jia Jun retreated to cover and brought up his machine gun, rapidly firing powerful plasma bolts in attempt to fully vaporize the whole mutant before it can regenerate. The creature tried to take a step forward but the rain of plasma that dawned on his already burning body forced him to halt. The overwhelming pain and the fact that it realized that it had nearly squandered all its available biomass for healing made it shriek in pain, fear and horror. It then was fully immobilized and went on its fours. Realizing that his plasma machine gun is need of cooling, Jia Jun signalled Vladimir to deliver the killing blow. Vladimir stepped up from cover and released another ball of energy from his Vaporizer cannon towards the subdued mutant. Again, like the previous target, the mutant crumbled into dust and soft rock.
The third one snarled in anger as if it deeply felt the loss of its counterparts and charged forward to meet Sharil. It swung its mutated arm in an attempt to slash Sharil into two but Sharil managed to dodge the attack. The mutant tried to swing its claws again but as soon as it descended on him, Sharil went to the side and activated his energy blade. He slashed the arm off with the energy blade and jumped onto it, riding on its back like a horse. The mutant tried to get him off its back and used its remaining left arm to bat Sharil off. Sharil took out a plasma grenade and stuck it on its back before jumping off. The plasma bomb exploded and the mutant exploded into flames. The disgusting hump of flesh was on its back as well as almost half of its body burned up into flames. The muatnt pranced about frantically and howled in pain. Sharil gave it no mercy and fired his plasma blaster at it. He kept firing until the mutant dropped dead, unresponsive. The remains of the black goo that once covered the human bodies moved away from the dead mutant body and crawled its way to safety, leaving behind a bloody pulp of what was once a human.
The fourth one laughed like a maniac and as soon as its gaze was set upon the commandos, two large appendages sprang out from its back. The large appendages then fired its projectiles at the human combatants. Sharil and the others ducked for cover, the nail-like projectiles missing the targets and puncturing the floor instead. The appendages fired its projectiles like a machine gun and continued to suppress the commandos. The commandos cannot stick their heads out. The fourth mutant advanced forward, moving closer to the commandos with each step. However soon it released a scream of pain and the firing stopped. The commandos stood up with their weapons ready and saw nothing but a lower torso of the mutant, with the upper one on the floor. A humonoid figure, in red and white armor like the IRS commandos but much more advanced looking, stood behind the defeated mutant. He, or she, brought up a energy-based weapon to the torsos and fired at them, with each shot vaporizing them completely into vapour and ash. It looked at the IRS commandos.
"If you want to link up with the Union, then follow me," announced the red and white armored figure. It then fired at the wall, making a man-sized hole in the process. The IRS commandos then followed the mysterious figure through a series of corridors before they saw the Union troops confronting an unidentified soldier. Mutilated corpses surrounded him.
"All that you know, is at an end," blurted out the soldier before exploding into several barrages of tentacles coming straight at the Union forces. The Union troops tried to hack them and prevent them from getting any closer but one managed to pierce through an Union soldier and turned it into a skeleton. The mysterious red and white figure turned at Sharil and his men.
"Stay here and only approach the Union soldiers when I'm done," the mysterious figure rasped. It then zoomed forward towards the tentacles and moved at lightning speed, evading all of the gruesome elongated organic structures. It threw something from its belt at the heart of the tentacle monster before disappearing. The tentacles erupted into a white glare and soon it was turned to ash. The ashes settled down and the Union soldiers lowered their weapons momentarily. Sharil and his team then moved to the Union troops cautiously. Suddenly the Union commander turned around and raised his weapon at Sharil's team. Realizing that his team was friendlies, the commander lowered his weapon. The rest of his men did the same.
"Well..at least we know somebody is alive," exclaimed the Union commander. Sharil went closer towards him.
"Well yes we went through hell, but we survived thanks to that space ninja. My name is Sharil an I am the commander of my IRS Imperial Elite squad known as Team Alpha. As allies, we would like to assist you in your mission.." Sharil said.
