Since my birth in neOttawa on Elysium , I always held some hate toward organic bodies. Weak skin freezing at ridiculously reasonable temperatures , bones cracking with each hit.... but modern technology had several ways to fix this.
At the age of 28 STC , as I finished my seventh studying cycle , I finally chose to cyberRebuild my limbs and sensory organs. But I felt like I needed to upgrade this body further : taking in my geneSource's immense wealth , I afforded the ultimate body-enhancement , which would turn me into something not human anymore.
What are now called Hypereyd began their existence as deep-space workers during the Extropian exile in the outer Solar System. Brain-controlled exoskeletons linked to their sealed spacesuits gave them high strenght. They were fed externally via tubes in their organs , which made them unable to remove said spacesuits without some surgery. The advantage was that they didn't need a pressurized habitat : the suits allowed them to survive in the cold vacuum , and ressuply once a week or two was sufficient to keep them alive. In order to reduce the weight , it was chosen to replace the wearer's limbs with lighter cybernetic prosthesis. To increase efficiency , the helmet's sensors were linked directly to the brain.
I remember standing in the modification room , pure white walls producing a reassuring light. A cyberSurgeon guided me to a bed around which stood shiny grey blocks. I took place on it and , conforming to my wish , my senses were rerouted to sensors on the ceiling. My body was then placed in a state of anesthesis and my cybernetics removed. The shiny blocks opened and lowMech arms grew from them , opening my ribcage and replacing organs. My stubs were cut further and higher quality limbs placed on them. They were much long and thin.
A hole in the back of my head made me lose the signal for a few minutes , but my body reappeared in my vision , my neural hub having been extended. In fact , a whole additional exobrain had been added. Sensors covered my eyes as the whole nervous system was reworked from the inside. A second spine , affixed to the flesh one , extended a framework from the sides of its vertebraes , beginning the construction of the enviroSuit. A frontSpine , slightly weaker than the back one , was implanted to support this ribcageless body while exoskeletic muscles grew in the suit's very mesh.
The transformation procedure was now complete , and my connectome sent back to my brain. New body , new perceptions , I struggled to stand up , but hopefully my body's LowMechAI had some automatic reflexes for walking and the such. I still had to pass a few weeks of adaptation and training to use this perfect body at its maximum capacity.
