Reik had been called to a surprise meeting onboard the Saudra Station, an unidentified person had asked for a high-ranking representative of the Carnaithian colonies, and he had decided to check in on it. two guards were standing near the door as Reik walked in.
"Reik," the visitor announced cordially, "Right General of the Carnaithian Empire. I am Silas, dispatched by the Overlord of the Immortal Empire on diplomatic grounds. I seek a solution to a grave problem for both of us."
"...Greetings, Silas" He said, mulling the situation over in his head. "what would this solution be?" He said, looking the man over.
He was more or less human, baring minor cybernetic implants such as a prosthetic eye. Not particularly threatening looking either, though with a certain firmness to his gaze that showed he was neither brutal nor pathetic.
"You are aware surely of the day's developments, Reik?"
"Depends on the developments, i don't watch the news often." He says, and repositions into a more formal stance. "War wise? I know one of my captians just launched an armored invasion force to one of your worlds, and that your forces have invaded one of my ships" he says, waiting for the man in front of him to enlighten him on what news he exactly meant.
Silas's eye widened in amusement.
"Not precisely my intent, Right General. The Immortal Empire has commenced an invasion of multiple Tenebraen systems, and succeeded rather admirably in my eye at least. Minimal casualties on all sides, and solid control of the system. We're calling on the Tenebraens to return to the negotiations table after they cease destroying our worlds."
Reik listened to this statement. "...so you want the C.I.N. forces in IE territory to pull out, yes?" He said. "If so, As soon as i get word from the Tenebraens about them pulling out, i will do so as well. I'm following their lead in this conflict" He said in response.
"Not entirely, Right General." Silas replied with great respect to the leader. "We're calling on their surrender; we don't trust them not to burn and pillage on the way out. They won't be withdrawing with you on those grounds."
He pauses for a moment, before asking a question.
"Have your people suffered much destruction in war? Civilians I mean, not the stalwart sorts who live for it."
"Multiple times, but i won't give any details as I'm quite the storyteller when i get started" he said with a slight chuckle. He then replies to the other man's response to his own question. "...And what do you mean in your entirety then?" He finishes.
"Then you know how soldiers are when the war is over and they find they can't attack the people who destroyed their families." Silas answered, grateful that Reik recognized the pain families endure in war. "With the Tenebraen forces off the table, their aggression will surely turn towards your own forces. The Overlord knows this, and knows how futile it would be to try and restrain a man who's lost all that he loves and cherishes...I think you can see the predicament there, Right General."
"Agreed. I'll keep myself posted for any updates in Tenebraen orders, and react as needed to their actions after this meeting, Silas" he says, thinking clearly compared to his thoughts in the conference.
"That is quite wise, Reik. However that may prove too little too late. A retreat out that deep from Immortal Empire territories would be thick with resistance from a vast number of enemies. Together, you have fought them to a stalemate, but alone...I am not certain it would be conductive to peace. They may be negotiating with the Tenebraens, Right General, but they have not been negotiating with you. The Overlord believes his people will cry for vengeance and feels that it is only fitting to offer it by allowing them to attack your warships who have already attacked him. Surely you understand this, Right General."
Silas paused, contemplating the situation, before continuing.
"Additionally, while I do not know your culture intimately, you are greatly guided by honor. Your forces would never wish to surrender along with the Tenebraens. This leaves three options, as I see it; you try and force your men to surrender when the Tenebraens surrender, or you withdraw down a very long road with twice the resistance you have yet experienced."
"Or," he added cautiously, "with the secret blessing of the Overlord, you have your forces withdraw and be out of the Immortal Empire's territory before the surrender occurs. This allows my Overlord to not have to try and pointlessly forbid his armies from seeking revenge, as they will have no one to seek it on nearby; and this will allow your armies to save face by not being driven out at gunpoint. It would be best for both of our people's futures, I think."
Reik rubbed his chin, Rictuld would hate him after this, Kate would heckle him more, but the Emperor himself would understand this action... "...I can make a disturbance that can call back every fleet has in Ancerious to our own territories." He said, he had been in a very calm demeanor as of late. "It would prevent either force from taking heavy losses, and wouldn't make me have to take a sanity screening." He said with another chuckle.
Silas bowed slightly in appreciation for Reik's wisdom. "The Overlord will be most pleased, Right General. Perhaps one day our factions might fight together as opposed to with each other." He did admire the Carnaithian's fighting spirit. Quite formidable.
Reik felt good, the Emperor would -hopefully- be pleased with his actions without attendance from Rictuld or kate, He might even be able to greet the Raas here after this... he bowed in responce to Silas, "Agreed, Representative Silas. If we have nothing else to speak of, I bid you peaceful Travel out system" He said with a small smile at his thoughts.
"Long life to you, Right General Reik." Silas replied, bowing again, before spinning about and exiting the room. Peace, or a great step towards it, had been secured. With the withdrawl of Carnaith's warfleets and soldiers, a path to a more hopeful future for both factions was now in sight.
