Given recent events the Capital was in damage control, an unexpected attack against their ally and two fleets engaged in combat, emergency warnings and correspondences were being sent which way and everyway. The kicker was incoming FTL signatures that weren’t recognised so Void Rock Six powered up its systems fully, as did the other orbital defences and the Second Fleet moved into defensive positions. The rest of extensive orbital infrastructure was either powered down to avoid detection or evacuated. On the surface of Gorganos Prime in New Gatlinburg pre warning had gone out to the civilians to stand by for more orders, police were out in force on the streets for if the orders would come through. The planetary defence force was called up and mobilised and the garrison Union Army began to deploy into defensive positions. Until the unknown forces materialised the system held its breath.
When the five FTL signatures did arrive it was likely not anything that the defenders had likely prepared for. Five ships, four of them destroyers and the last one very clearly an unarmed civilian cruise liner. They stop on the edge of the system as the cruise liner hails any control centers and starports that might be in the system.
"This is the HMS Eroding Dawn, hailing from the Kingdom of the Accord. On board this vessel is a diplomatic representative from the Accord, as our people wishes to establish professional contact with your own. Please advise."
There was a collective breath of relief when the message came through from the Accordite ships. The alerts were cancelled and everything began to return back to normal, weapons powered down and shields lowered. In new Gatlinburg alert message went back to playing advertisements and the planetary defence forces were sent back home just as the army returned back to base. In the Central Government Complex at the heart of the city Director Samantha Rodgers was told about the unexpected visitors and was quick to reply.
“This is Director Samantha Rodgers of the Union of Democratic States Ancerious Colonial Expedition; firstly my apologies another member state of the Union was attacked so we expected the worst. Secondly welcome to Gorganos landing coordinates for the landing pads at our Central Government Complex will be transmitted to you ant second now, I look forward to your arrival.” She spoke politely but the under tone of her voice was that of great relief.
The five vessels move in formation to the orbit of New Gatlinburg before a lone shuttle is sent down. To the UDS, the shuttle is rather bulky and blocky, clearly utilitarian and rather imperialistic in design. But for those who had paid any attention to the FDC Meeting prior, they would note that this is a hallmark of the militaristic Accord.
The shuttle lands with the whine of hydraulics as the vehicle settles on the landing pad that has been designated to it as its bay doors open. Within, a Ska'vari man in a utilitarian labcoat-uniform flanked by four Accordite Marines in power armor step out, though only the man in the labcoat-uniform steps forward. His guards remain by the entryway of the shuttle.
Up close, even though the representative is a non-combatant, his massive figure can still be intimidating to those unfamiliar with the Ska'vari race. At least 8'6" tall and rippling with muscles underneath his coat, the man has a lone pistol strapped to his right thigh that looks as heavy as it is large. "Good afternoon. My name is Ludorph Phyruus Belashi, and I humbly thank you for granting us audience. Hopefully we did not arrive at an inopportune moment, I had heard from the captain that an ally of your nation was under siege."
Samantha walked out the atrium onto the landings pads just in time to watch the shuttle’s doors open up. She was amazed at the size of this person that walked out for the meeting, even if she threw on a suit of armour her guest would still be taller. Never the less she approached the bottom of the escalator to the landing pad itself and greeted him in return.
“Afternoon, Director Samantha Rodgers Union of Democratic States. And no this is fine I might be interrupted briefly however with status updates. One of the member states of the Union the United Worlds of Alondra was attack by a Dectrose fleet who we’re trying to evacuate agents sent to their capital. But I digress come lets go somewhere more suitable.” She was polite to the giant of a person trying to maintain contact with him over the two and half feet height difference as she talked.
Samantha chaperoned Ludorph from the landing pads to her office along the short walk the Central Government Complex staff were busier than ever, phones rang off the hook, staff ran about like crazy but through the chaos was a distinct methodology. Even Samantha’s secretary was busy taking calls and in the waiting area was several people two of which were in naval military uniforms and the others were in suits which all had the Union National flag on the left lapel.
“I’ll be with you as soon as I can ladies and gentlemen.” Samatha addressed the people sitting before turing to her secretary.
“Put him through as soon as he calls, hold the rest till later.” The secretary responded with a nod.
She opened the door to her office and offered Ludorph a seat on one of the couches in the centre of the room, she then sat down on the one facing opposite to it.
“So The Accord, I read the report about you from the FDC meeting and again i apologise for pointing a systems worth of guns at your ships. Anyways what I can I do for you today?” Samantha smiled politely
"So the Dectrose finally show their true colors," Ludorph muses, taking a seat on the couch as he turns serious. "Please, Director, no need for apologies, our people know more than anyone else how it feels to be under siege. Your paranoia is well-warranted."
"Well, onto the heart of the matter, the Accord wishes to establish formal diplomacy with the Union of Democratic States. I have been sent as my nation's representatives, upon the decision that the House of Belashi's neutrality is best suited for such a role. Should you require a pause, by all means. Your nation's state of affairs is of greater importance, especially in times of...dire conflict."
The man clears his throat as he reaches for a folder within his coat. "As of current, I have been given the authority to formulate a non-aggression pact, and various trade agreements. Though, if I recall, the UDS has a distinct aversion to autocratic and totalitarian types of governments. May I inquire if relations with our nation would conflict with the wishes of your people? I am ready to answer any questions you may have."
“I’ll put it plainly it’s hard to fight one totalitarian regime for a few decades then go ahead and make friends with another. That’s why Tyldum’s best decision he made was walking out of that meeting. There is a threshold that we’ll tolerate one for however and what you’ve offered is about it. However I’m under the impression that you elect a king to rule over you for life correct?” Samantha leaned in and crossed her arms intrigued to hear Ludorph’s answer.
"Under typical situations, correct. Though currently, it is a military junta in all but name. The former King may be under official house arrest but not even his guardians are taking it seriously. Plus, he signed the documents denouncing the Dectrose, if you had come across that article on the Ancnet. That just goes to show exactly how diligently everyone adheres to that matter," Ludorph chuckles at the thought of his former King and his children taking strolls unattended in the local park, which is a relatively common sight on Accordite video networks.
"If I recall, Sir Eltan had made an announcement that the Accord High Command that currently controls all affairs is working to host the next Royal Election on Harvest. I don't doubt their intent, but I do doubt their progress, as our nation is sadly missing one final key to resolve this silly debacle..."
“That’s quite interesting indeed, more interesting however is what’s this missing key item that’s holding up your nations election?”
"...Well, it's the matter of our national founder, Sir Kyndon. Before you ask, yes--he is alive, and well over four hundred years old. The problem is, he has been held as a prisoner ever since our Great War, twenty years ago by some remnant enemies that has built themselves a little fortress on an ice sheet back on our homeworld. If he weren't being held hostage we would've bombarded that place to ruin already, and let the deep-feeders feast on their meal." Ludorph sighs, contemplating the problem. "But, without him, I fear that High Command lacks the confidence to host the election. One wrong move and our nation could dissolve in civil war. Sir Kyndon is absolutely necessary for the stability of our country."
“Well democracy comes in many different forms all of them have their perfections and imperfections and I’d say dissolving into civil war is a serious matter. Now our mission statement has always been to help other democracies in any capacity, and I’m guessing you’ve already had teams try time and time again to get him out. So I’ll give you the contact information for a friend of mine who works over in the Office of Secret Services, I’ll give them a rundown on the situation and if you want them to help just contact them and they’ll be over with a group of friendly infiltrators. I’m sure they can…” Samantha was interrupted by the priority message alarm coming from the table display between the two.
“Excuse me for a moment” She pressed the button and read through the report scrawling her face when she got to the end. She put her head in her hands and breathed deeply.
“Well, I’m glad you did denounce the Dectrose since we’re now in a state of de facto war, their fleet was just destroyed inside of Alondra system the capital of the United Worlds of Alondra. Anyways like I was saying they should be able to sneak into whatever fortress they have set up and get your man out of there.” She leaned back into her seat.
"I thank you on behalf of the Accord for your kind offer Director, and I shall forward this contact information to my peers in the House of Irving, who will make far better use of it than I ever can. It is unfortunate to hear that your nation is going to war, though my own nation may be envious of it... It's a shame, rather. If they had simply chose not to grab that which was beyond their reach, all this may not have come to be."
A pause from Ludorph. "...Well, I think we should move to a lighter note. The topic of trade can be left for another day, but the non-aggression pact can be done in short order."
“Yes, yes it can NAP’s are a good foundation for any budding relationship. Consider it already signed.” Samantha chuckled
"Wonderful. Now all we need is in physical signing, in duplicate," Ludorph smiles in return, producing two identical pieces of paper from his folder and setting them on a nearby table between the two.
Samantha pressed a button on the table’s console and the top of a pen appeared which she pulled out and used to sign the documents.
“If you think that’s impressive there’s a button that ejects a hand gun.” She laughed putting the pen back into its socket where it was swallowed up by the table again.
“Well that ought to do it, unless you have anything to add on?” She leaned back into her seat crossing her legs and placing her hands on one knee.
The Ska'vari shakes his head. "I do not believe there is anything more to add as of this moment. Now that formal relations have been established, I believe that a member of the House of Genoa will be sent for the matter of any trade agreements our two nations may have."
“I look forward to any trading between nations and thank you for making the trip out here.” Samantha shook his hand and bid her guest farewell.
