Count Arkus looked out into the void from his quarters above the fleet base over Tarn IV. Ships and strike craft moved about the void as he observed, always alert, they were at war after all. Speaking of which it was almost time to begin the festivities, but there was one more thing to do first.
“I take it you are prepared?” Arkus questioned as he gazed out and space, barely paying the new arrival attention. “Of course, my lord, we are ready for departure.” Captain Tarrus spoke as he bowed. Arkus merely nodded and strode past him towards Tarrus’s vessel, the destroyer Shackled. Tarrus followed quickly and within a few minutes they were free of the mooring clamps and charging FTL.
“Are you sure you want to go…right to the edge my lord?” he asked once again. “Certain Captain.” Arkus replied, standing a little in front of Tarrus who was next to the captain’s chair. “Jump!” Tarrus ordered and Arkus blinked, opening his eyes to see the void once more, and the Cricaen side of the DMZ beyond that. “Well?” the Count asked. “Right at the edge, as per your orders my lord.” Tarrus spoke and Arkus smirked.
Cricaen alarms blared on their side of the DMZ. “Captain, A Vaanitas ship has just jumped right to the edge of their side of the DMZ” A sensors operator said nervously. Captain Chloe Newfall came over and looked at the sensors.
“Well I will be damned” She said, having not expected anything to happen “Aim the main weapons at them and get some of the Monitors to move up to the edge but do not do anything, understand, they may only be probing our defences” She told the crewman before walking over and looking at a display of the Vaanitas DMZ.
Monitors began moving and arranging themselves into formations along the DMZ incase this was the start of a Vaanitas invasion whilst defence platforms and star bases turned their main weapons towards the Vaanitas DMZ.
"My lord we're being targeted." Tarrus warned him with concern but Arkus just held up a hand. "Being transmitting." he ordered and cleared his throat. "This is Count Arkus Falvayn of the Vaanitas Supremacy. Might I speak to someone in charge?" he asked nonchalantly.
The transmission came through and every paused and looked at their Captain. She took a deep breath, “This is Captain Chloe Newfall of the Cricaen defence force, I am in charge of this regions defences” She spoke clearly.
"Well Captain Newfall, I have come here to talk to the Cricaen's. Do you rank high enough to speak for them?" he questioned her as the bridge crew waited tensely.
“I rank high enough to have the authority to speak on my nations behalf” She replied. Her crew ready for any order to strike.
"Excellent. I shall meet you in the DMZ." he spoke before severing the link. "All ahead Tarrus, best not waste time." Arkus spoke. Tarrus looked to the helmsman and nodded, the destroyer slowly advancing.
She looked at her crew and nodded “Take us into the DMZ” She spoke. The crew were still nervous but followed orders taking the cruiser into the DMZ at a steady speed to meet with the Vaanitas ship.
The destroyer came to a halt at the half way point and waited. "My lord this is incredibly dangerous." Tarrus spoke with concern. "No more of that Tarrus, you did so well on my little mission for you. Do not ruin it." he replied.
The larger Cruiser stopped just infront of the Vaanitas destroyer. “Ma’am what do you plan on doing” Her 2ic asked nervously. “Nothing, we wait until this Count Arkus talks to us, or blows us apart” She said casually.
Arkus looked at the Cricaen vessel as it loomed over them. "Come aboard at your leisure. But don't take too long, the weapons platforms crews are a little trigger happy." he spoke into the comms and proceeded with Tarrus down to the small hangar.
“Well come on then” She said standing and gesturing to her 2ic to follow. Her 2ic did so reluctantly and followed her to the hanger where they got onboard a small transport shuttle and headed across to the Vaanitas ship.
The marines lined the hanger with the usual pomp and circumstance and Arkus stood in his ceremonial armour, watching the shuttle enter the bay. Tarrus kept a hand on his hip, not far from his sidearm.
The shuttle landed and Chloe and her 2ic walked out. Both of them were not what Arkus had encounter before when he had first met the Cricaens, there skin was a dark red with black markings, they had long ears and horns that went from red and black to blue tipped. Chloe was the taller of the two and she walked just infront of her 2ic wearing a standard Cricaen Naval officer uniform.
He looked down at them as they exited. "Welcome aboard the Shackled." He spoke. "I am Count Arkus Falvayn, representative of his lordship ArchDuke Deln Karr and overseer of operations in this galaxy." He introduced. "This is Captain Tarrus Dalir, commander of this vessel."
They both looked up at them, being only slightly smaller. “I am Captain Chloe Newfall, Captain of the Intrepid and the defence forces in this quadrant” She spoke as she introduced herself properly. “And this is Lieutenant Jessica Winter my second in command” She said introducing her 2ic.
"I have a proposal for you, if you'd like to follow me." He spoke and turned, his cloak flapping a little as he strolled towards the elevator. Tarrus paused before following.
They looked at the marines and then back towards Tarrus and Arkus before following behind them.
He stood waiting in the elevator for them. Once they entered they took a short ride to the captain’s cabin, exiting into a simple but functional lounge area. Arkus entered and took a seat
They were both still sceptical about why they had been brought here so entered with a bit of caution, their eyes looking over everything in the room before they went and took a seat opposite him.
Tarrus remained stood. Arkus paused for a moment and placed his hand on the arm of the sofa. The shadows in the room seemed to intensify, the viewports and doors were obscured and the background noise of the ship faded. "Now we won't be disturbed." he spoke with a calculated smile.
Jessica reached for her side to grab a pistol but Chloe stopped her and shook her head and then looked at Arkus, both their eyes glowing slightly.
"I suppose I should be candid" he mused, the initial point to himself rather than the room at large. "I've invited you here to make an offer, a proposal. However should you decline it is more than likely that you'll be killed. Just a warning." Arkus spoke, his tone casual but still authoritative. Tarrus was keeping an eye on their 'guests'
Chloe nodded “Then please put forward this proposal” She said her eyes still glowing in the dim light.
Arkus paused. "As you are aware, we are at war with the Davians, or Divine Davian Empire as they like to be called" he began with distaste. "Whilst I would like nothing more than to eliminate them for my lord we have limited forces available for this expedition. We also find ourselves in a galaxy populated by vast, dangerous empires whom we cannot hope to fight alone. As such, we recently formed an alliance, the first in our history with a triumvirate of northern nations. This alliance was created with the purpose of watching over and managing the west of Ancerious, removing scum like the Davians and ensuring a peace of sorts." Arkus spoke, keeping eye contact and gauging her reaction
She nodded slightly whilst Jessica remain looking at Tarrus. “We do know of the Davians and are indead ourselves at war with them and that they caused our nation and your own a great deal of hassle at Zaingraf” She spoke in replied. “But let me move on from those cowards and get this correct you are trying to forge an alliance with Cricaens is what I am getting here” She said.
Tarrus looked back at Jessica with a steely expression. "Quite quick to catch on, that's what I love about your people, so fast to understand." Arkus chuckled. "Indeed, i'd like to offer you a place in A.U.R.A with us and our allies."
Jessica’s glowing white eyes didn’t look away. She nodded “And what exactly is A.U.R.A, if I may ask” She replied.
Tarrus folded his arms and maintained eye contact with the 'guest'. "The Avarian Uriel Regulatory Alliance.” Arkus replied to her as he showed her the membership document.
Jessica still had her hand close to her side arm. Chloe looked over the documentation “So what would this Alliance actually mean” She spoke.
"Oh the initial premise was totally for the purpose of invading the Davians." Arkus spoke with complete candour. "However, I've been looking to dabble with things beyond war for some time, and a coalition promoting trade and stability seems like my chance."
“I see, well those are all good reasons to join A.U.R.A, but would you please allow me to contact my Queen and Parliament” She asked.
"Discretion would be appreciated" Arkus told her and allowed the barrier to fall so she could speak. Tarrus remained arms crossed and waiting.
Chloe set up a communication with her Queen and talked to her for a few moments not giving away too much information yet, only telling her the basics. After those few moments she dropped the communications and looked at Arkus “We are willing to join A.U.R.A” She spoke.
"Excellent." Arkus smiled with satisfaction and passed a datapad with the details on to her. "Just the formalities. Sign once you're comfortable."
She went over the details again and then signed it once she felt everything was in order.
"Excellent. Welcome to A.U.R.A, i'll transmit information on our first meeting soon enough. Then you can meet our new friends." Alkir smirked standing and taking the document back.
Chloe and Jessica stood, the younger Volvoxan still looking at Tarrus. “That would be grand” Chloe spoke.
Tarrus gave her a cold smirk and stepped aside to allow Arkus to stand. "Captain, would you escort our allies back to their craft." he spoke and the Captain nodded, leading the way
The two Volvoxen gave Arkus a bow and then they both followed Tarrus.
Tarrus walked in silence as they re-entered the elevator and descended back to the hangar. Arkus filed the document away and looked out at the view of the Vaanitas side of the DMZ. "Rather obsolete now. No matter." he chuckled.
The two Cricaen officers were silent as the elevator reached the hanger.
"There we are then, welcome to A.U.R.A" Tarrus spoke, stepping aside and allowing them to exit to their vessel.
“Yes, and now we have more people to invade the Davians” Jessica spoke. “But now the DMZ is kind of null and void now” Chloe mused as they walked to their shuttle.
He didn't follow them, merely waiting by the elevator and keeping an eye on them. The hangar on the destroyer was small, filled only with a few dropships and the deck crew working on them.
They boarded their shuttle and a few moments later it lifted off and left the destroyers hanger and headed back to the Cricaen Cruiser.
“I take it you are prepared?” Arkus questioned as he gazed out and space, barely paying the new arrival attention. “Of course, my lord, we are ready for departure.” Captain Tarrus spoke as he bowed.
